It was announced on Inside Xbox that mouse and keyboard is coming starting with preview program in October. I wouldn't be surprised if Civ VI ends up coming to XB1 because of this.

I've been considering the idea of buying an Xbox, if I can get a good offer during the black friday - christmas season.

I dunno, I'd really like playing Rare Replay (mostly Viva Piñata, although I still have my Viva Piñata 360 disc so I may be able use that), the new Resident Evils and other games like that. Maybe Final Fantasy.

But I don't really know if would be worth it for someone like me, can't really think of much else I'd want to play on a home console... Well, time will tell.

@NEStalgia My brother has a PS4 in his house. Closer to me, we have his old PS3 in the living room... Mostly for movies...

One would think I'd be more interested in a PS4 (I do have a vita I could pair it with), but the Xbox seems nicer at the moment.

@DarthNocturnal woot! I wonder if it will need to be supported by individual games. Probably. But that would be awesome. Though maybe unfair in a lot of games. Picturing destiny 2 controller vs mouse players. Eww.

@Yosheel yeah, it really kinda is. Ps4 for exclusives, but with square dropping ff on switch and x1, a quarter of those just vanished. Kh and a lot of rpgs like ys, tales etc still have ps only for now. And the big exclusives like spidey and ni no kuni (why no switch ) and persona (whyyyyy? ) But that list aside, yeah, everything about x1 is pretty much better. Plus the controller. Nobody (but ralizah) actually likes the dual shock

Random notes that seem semi-relevant to this conversation. Today I took one of my periodic trips away from retrogames and into the world of modern games. Picked up a few 360/PS3 games at the local Gamestop. Game #1 literally took 35 minutes from the time I put in the disc until first play, what with downloads/patch/install/local-hdd-access/repeat. Ugh. Game #2 couldn't connect to EA's servers, and absolutely refused to play without connecting to their servers. Ugh. I gave up and will try again later.

I know the rest of the world loves modern games and the many great things online console gaming can do. But there's a reason this old guy spends 90% of my time retrogaming. And I pray we never lose the option.

The Wii U is still the world's best console. Buy one today!

@NEStalgia Oh well, I've always learned that there is no such thing as coincidence, so it just had to be...

By the way: they also have those drives in Xbox green. Strangely not in black, though, to fit better with the X,
but I guess people are either just going to have to deal with that, or buy a non-official drive. I like my official peripherals, though, and the white one obviously matched better with the S. I was tempted, to buy the green one, though...

Okay, truly the last thing I'm going to say on the topic, and perhaps to make things a bit clearer:
I agree with you, that in principal, every Xbox One, can become a streaming box in the Scarlett scenario, provided of course, that the whole rumor about the combo of one full-blown console and one streaming box is true,
but I suppose we'll just have to wait a bit longer, probably until next E3, to get some actually confirmed info on that. In between that period, it's probably going to be rumor central for the next year...

I also agree on Microsoft selling the environment, albeit with the exception that there is going to be a definite technical limit on what both current Xbox One's will be able to do with streaming content that is in actuality WAY above their pay grade. They will finally want to nail that locked 60fps on all content, AND full 4K on all content, and like you said, the X's CPU just isn't up to that task, neither local or streaming, unless the graphical quality of the stream is considerably downgraded...

And much like some people now get an X instead of an S, because they want to get the most out of their games, ultimately, people will also want to buy a Scarlett for that superior content, instead of hanging on to their X. Unless of course, there's no enticing content on the Scarlett, but I think it's pretty safe to say that Microsoft isn't going to make that mistake again.

In the last two years, they've already bought 6 external studios, and secured quite a few (timed?) exclusives, according to the man himself, so if that is any indication, they're definitely on the right track in that regard, this time around.

And another thing to consider: the Scarlett isn't going to be made from fairy dust, so they will have to be able to recoup those costs, even if the most profit is in the games. They can sell at a loss, but they must first have to create an environment (pun intended) in which they actually CAN sell that new device. In a world where all current Xbox owners hold on to their S or X, that isn't going to happen, and they would have to work VERY hard to convince another part of the market to buy into their brand, so they would have to win over Sony or Nintendo supporters, that don't already have an Xbox on the side, and that's a VERY tough sell.

So, you can come up with all kinds of schematics and theories, I really don't care. I don't mind either, but it isn't going to make any difference to me. I simply know, based upon my own sales knowledge and experience, and upon simple logical deduction, that what I say, currently makes the most sense, and I will only be persuaded to admit I was wrong, by Phil Spencer himself. Until then, my scenario is the most likely, or at least a large part of my scenario.

If people are just going to sit on their current gen consoles, and Microsoft isn't able to attract people to the actual new device, then Scarlett is simply going to fail, and Xbox owners will be left with streaming-only, inferior versions of Scarlett software. Let that swirl around in your head a couple of times, then digest it, and then ultimately come to the only logical conclusion of just how infinitely stupid and nonsensical that sounds, both from a consumer and a business standpoint.

So, that's really it from me, my friend, concerning this discussion. I hate merry-go-rounds...

@ThanosReXXX
I thought they look like tags you would maybe have next to your username whilst playing online, but I'm not sure. And no worries I would hate them to go to waste.
@NEStalgia If I still have them when you get it then you'll be ore than welcome to them.

Hmm, Doom and Wolf I bought on Switch...kinda cool to get them free on X1. Metro...meh, the horror aspects turn me away hard. Split/Second always sounded fun though! Shantae I have on Switch and don't need to play again on X.

Victor Vran on Gold already? Wow, that's shocking...also just got that on Switch. Would be cool to see it with shiny gfx though I suppose. Hitman is always good.

@NEStalgia split second is a very underrated game. Im sure you'll enjoy it

@redd214 I'm sorry, did you just say you intend to blaspheme the XBox One by allowing the corruption of the defiled DualShock 4 to touch it??

I.....I don't know you.......

@redd214 I can't believe there's a second person that actually likes that thing. The world is so wrong.

@DarthNocturnal to be fair it's not really heresy. Microsoft showed off switch at the last two e3s like it was their very own Vita

@NEStalgia Yeah, the cloud is not going away, and they'll want to push it, but I suspect that it's not going to affect console gaming yet, to a point that we'll only get streaming boxes. In computing and in business, it's another thing altogether, and that already happened decades ago. I should know: I sold HP Blade server parks to companies...

I still don't see how you think that Microsoft is going to be happy if they aren't going to be able to sell Scarlett to current customers, let alone new ones. There is no gain for them to let people use their current consoles ad infinitum, so they'll want and NEED you to buy that shiny new box at some point, and for them, at some point would preferably be sooner, rather than later...

Oh, and you should most definitely get Split/Second, it's a GREAT game, and really brought something new in the arcade racing genre altogether. A damn shame that it never got a sequel. I think that if you go and try it out with Game Pass, you might just be tempted to actually buy it to own. The main game is already quite entertaining (and quite extensive as well), and then there's also so much variety in the levels and objectives that you have to reach. It has a bit of a Death Race 2000 flavor, in that, just like the movie, it plays out like a sponsored TV show, and that you must try and destroy all the other racers, in all kinds of crazy ways, which ranges from dropping oil drums or containers into their path, to collapsing complete flight towers on top off them, while racing along an airport.

Crazy but highly entertaining stuff. And then there's also the option to change tracks during races, by implementing triggers or destroying certain areas, which will then open up a new route or shortcut, so no two races are ever the same. Heck, in some levels, no two laps are the same...

Here's some Xbox 360 BC gameplay on the Xbox One:

P.S.
It's now 1.15am over here, and the Xbox One is still busy installing games. Five more in the queue...
