Words cannot describe how pissed off I am that Cyberpunk 2077 is 1st person. The gaming industry callously neglects simulation sickness as a real thing, yet so many of us have it and can't play games in 1st person.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

@EvilLucario Strangely I find Switch easier to swap cartridges than annoying discs and have it flip flopped: PS4/X1 digital, Switch physical..

@iKhan Honestly I don't get the point of 1st person on console at all. It just doesn't work strapped to an X/Y relative coordinate system with analog sticks.....it was designed for PC with the absolute positioning with a mouse, which also makes it a lot more smooth and manageable. Not sure if that matters or not for simulation sickness, but even without it I find it a lot less nauseating on PC, with mouse, and generally dislike console games in first person, with some exceptions. (Skyrim has got to be first person for me...)

@iKhan I completely agree with you! I'm very interested in Cyberpunk 2077... But first person pretty much lends me to I can't play it at all.

There's some games I want to play, but the first person view pretty much makes me puke and nauseous in just 10 mins of play.

@NEStalgia Normally swapping cartridges is extremely easy, like on the Game Boy/DS line. But because of the cartridge cover in the Switch, the process is much more annoying. I get why it's there, but still.

I didn't feel the benefits of digital as much before the Switch, all because of that stupid cover. Imagine that.

@EvilLucario True, the flap is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, being docked, it would let dust into the system if it were open. They could have moved it to the bottom, but there I'd be very afraid I'd accidentally click out the cartridge when holding Switch in odd positions (that actually happened to me with either 3DSXL or N3DSXL (whichever had the slot in the front instead of the back) a few times.....that sucked. They could have put it on the side but....Joycon rails. So I'm kind of glad for the flap. And yet it does make switching a pain....and I'm convinced it will crack off sooner than later from flexing. I'd have rather had a silicone bung of some type. It already has a little play at the lip that locks it, but stays put for now.

Still even with all that I find it easy to store, grab, and load carts compared to DVD boxes, popping the disc out, holding in awkwardly and then feeding it into a console which due to wiring locations etc almost always involves crouching at odd angles to line the slot up. Plus with the stupid "eraser" design I often need a flashlight to find the slots at all on OG and Pro

Plus, my current setup involves feeding it in BACKWARD (the Pro I have in a stand and for the controllers to face away from the AV rack means the top of the unit has to face the room, meaning the fan faces me and the disc slot faces the wall...imagine feeding your disc into the back of your PS4....because that's what I do Though the one charging slot now seems to magically not work so that might change again....

I bought the 1X as an all digital box, but I admit I've been re-buying my physical PS4 games digitally when on sale....and even preordered Kiwami 2 and DQXI digitally (DQ was a long and hard debate but I figured I'll end up double dipping physical on Switch anyway )

@NEStalgia Alright, I'm not the only one who thinks the PS4 looks butt-ugly then. Even the Wii U looks better than the PS4.

@redd214 BTW, any idea if those new Razers will be for sale in the US? Sony is weird about that. The Raiju (OG) was only for sale in EU and never the US (you can get them as imports or gray market easily online.) Hori Onyx is EU only as well. Nacon Revolution was licensed for US + EU, and the Scuff Vantage is US. That page about the new Raijus showed $ and lb pricing, yet it appears on the Razer UK website as news, but doesn't appear on the US website at all, just like OG Raiju. (Meanwhile both Scuff and Razer are US based companies, and all the XBox stuff is available everywhere....)

I do wonder if they'll bring the wireless variants to X1 as well. Harder market there competing against Elite.... The only reason I bought 2 Elites is wireless. Wolverine is a far better controller in every way for $10 more (wired-only, though.)

@EvilLucario LOL, I didn't think anyone didn't think the PS4 was butt-ugly. The meme never dies:
Untitled

And then the Pro just takes the same thing and makes it bigger. The worst part though, is the CD slot buried indiscriminately between layers so you can't find it by feel, you just have to grind your disc edges like an angle grinder. And the OG model's contact switches that could never be found, and you'd always eject your game instead of turning the machine on/off I can forgive ugly, but never bad functionality!

WiiU was actually quite beautiful. Not the GamePad that looked vaguely toylike, but the console itself was small and rounded with kind of a "grain of rice" or "pebble" design Samsung made more famous with phones. Probably the most elegant console ever made, excepting maybe X1X with it's formalwear matte stacked rectangles.

PS4 design I'd rank somewhere between NA SNES and a 2600.

@NEStalgia To be honest, I don't really like the look of any PlayStation console except for maybe the PS1. The PS2 was this ugly edgy thing and the slim looked way too fragile, the PS3 is just what the hell is this curved fat thing no matter the model, and the PS4 is, as you put it, an eraser.

The PSP and Vita, on the other hand, look really good. If I had to pick my most favorite looking handhelds ever, those two would come after the Switch and the non-XL New 3DS.

I also find it way less annoying to swap discs on PS4 than cartridges on Switch. The portability is definitely a huge factor there, to be sure, but on PS4, I'll generally pop in a game I want to play, whereas on Switch, if I want to, say, play a round of Mario Kart, but don't have it in, I'll generally lay on the couch staring at the Switch with frustration for a minute before just playing something else.

The annoying thing avout PS4 is, thanks to the weird buttons on the console itself, I'm never sure which one ejects a disc. Several times I've accidentally turned off my PS4 instead of ejecting the disc.

Physical media sucks, man. I should have gone digital on Switch and PS4 as soon as I got it instead of amassing a smaller collection of discs and carts. Except for Wii U. I have never wanted to download games on that machine, for some reason.

And the PS4 is... interesting looking. It lacks the sexy rounded curves of the Wii U. It looks like a piece of alien tech, honestly, with all the hard angles and glowing light bars.

@Ralizah Yeah but can you get SPECIAL EDITIONS digitally????? I thought not! The Xenoblade 2 and Smash Ultimate SPECIAL EDITIONS in particular are beauuuutiful!!!

On a serious note, I tend to go digital for multiplayer games like Mario Tennis and Mario Kart. It's so easy for quick multiplayer at any time. Single-player games, though, I don't really care.

@EvilLucario LOL, yeah, I do agree the designs have all be various degrees of bad. PS4 is tame compared to the past few. PS2 slim was pretty enough....but was cheap plastic and very fragile as you say. PS3 slim wasn't so bad (model 2, not model 3 which looks like the same quality as one of those re-release Genesis/Megadrives) I have my Pro next to my X1X.....I struggle to gain the feeling that the two are equal players when side by side.

@Ralizah Well one thing I forget about is using the Switch as a docked console, yeah, changing carts is a major PITA....I actually forgot about that since I rarely end up changing carts when using it docked....it's either some epic like XC2 or BotW in there for a month or two, or it's a game like Tennis that I'm starting out handheld before throwing on the screen. Yeah, as a docked console, having to REMOVE the console from the dock just to change the game with the flap does indeed suck more. But lets be real, it's a handheld first

But multiplayer games (Kart, Pokken, Splatoon, Aces, Smash) I've been buying digitally to have available for quick sessions. No reason to have XC2 or Octopath living on the system always, I'll play it all at once and then move on.

Yeah, you know the #1 thing I love about the Pro isn't the graphics boost, or even the load time boost. It's the fact that it has physical freaking buttons in separate locations. Unfortunately the power button is a long thin strip of plastic over the actual button, so the location and pressure required to activate it varies per physical sample..... but at least you can feel it And it's not near Eject. It's like USB ports. There's only two locations you can insert/press to be right, but the first two you pick are always wrong.

I like things that glow. Glowing is cool. Trapezoids that obscure the rear ports, and obscure the recessed disc slot are not cool. (Then again those same ergonomics go into their infernal controllers.... )

NEStalgia

EvilLucario

@NEStalgia Well for me my dock is literally just five feet away from me since I play on a monitor, so I can just reach out, take out the cartridge, slap it back into the dock, and continue playing.

Still annoying.

In comparison for any disc-based consoles, I just reach out for the box, pop out the disc, press the simple eject button as it ejects it for me, and then swap as normal. Easy peasy.

@EvilLucario Even putting aside the backward disc insertion from the rear, and the getting up to undock the console aspects, at least Switch carts I can buy storage cases for and have a stack of 50 or so in a little pile next to the console. Disc cases form a tower or 3 looming over the room, and having to move large parts of a stack to get to the one you want And you have to two-hand them to sort them....Switch carts can just be piled in your palm if needed

I've long been a physical-first gamer, but I must admit, I've got like 4TB digital on my X1 and it's fun just picking any game at any time and playing for 10 minutes and switching to another It hooked me on it for PS4 too. (Spidey....which way will I go? )

"Easy peasy."
None of that!

@NEStalgia Dude, being able to just gaze at a bookshelf and see a bajillion games staring back at you sounds awesome.

@EvilLucario Incidentally, I don't buy special editions anymore. I never use the stuff in them,, so what's the point in cluttering up my house with stuff that's more expensive and that I don't really have the room to properly display anyway? I decided a while ago, as part of my pledge to limit the sway consumer goods and advertising have over my life, to focus more on playing games and less on collecting them. It also has drastically cut down on my spending.

Besides, digital games can't be lost and are always accessible.

@NEStalgia The DS4 is nearly a perfect controller. I dream of the day they give me a DS4 with no lightbar, a smaller touchpad, actual buttons for share/options, and a 10+ hour lifespan for the battery.

@Ralizah Fair enough. The one big advantage of digital that people don't tend to emphasize is the fact that you have to find out where you put all your physical media. If you don't have a lot of space and/or you move around a lot, you're boned.

@EvilLucario I mean, I can box a lot of that sort of stuff up, but then, what's the point of physical media if you're not displaying it? It's the same reason I ditched my DVD boxes and moved the discs to big. multi-disc CD storage cases.

I do miss the pretty boxes, but the game is the important thing.

@Ralizah Tbh I just want to find a good print shop near me that can reliably print out game covers at actual, authentic quality, just like the Switch or PS4 covers. That way, I can just buy games digitally while having an empty case displaying all those games. Best of both worlds!!! :^]

(no for real though I want that, since on MyNintendo they have box art for Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, and I'd love to print that out for myself. But I'd also like that for any digital games I buy)
