@Octane Well this is a game made by this guy:

Untitled

I would think eccentric ideas of creative artfulness would be the minimum expectation. It might be the shock thing, but if they need to put a message to tell you specifically that it's not done even though it looks done, I think it missed the mark It would be shock if it automatically flowed into the continuance of the game (like a post-credit bumper in film), maybe. Or the old trick some games uses that the credits roll, and part-way through reverse, or the screen corrupts and the enemy interferes, or some such, indicating it's not credits.

So in this case I feel more like they're going for "tv series" effect maybe. Or it's just Taro being Taro.

Playing Killzone Shadow Fall, it's funny seeing how the game influenced Horizon. Not in terms of gameplay, but aesthetics.

I really enjoyed the third chapter. Very Metroid Prime-y.

@Octane I thought the same thing when I Revisited KZ recently. Definitely inspired the look of the robot dinos/animals. Game had some dips but I think it was pretty harshly received at launch. I found it to be an above average shooter, nothing special but nothing terrible either.

@redd214 I'm not a big fan of the endless waves of enemies, like some chapters have. But when the game doesn't throw enemies at you at all times, it's pretty good.

@Octane

It's probably just the only style their graphics people were good at!

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Octane

@Dezzy Hah, probably! That reminds me, Sucker Punch had a bunch of people that worked on the particle effects in the Infamous games. So when they started Ghost of Tsushima, their question was; ''well, what's out job now that it's set in a realistic universe?'' And they went nuts with the leaves and fire it seems!

WOW, this thread is resurrected. It's so weird that after E3 the X1 thread became the booming center of conversation and the PS4 thread simply died. Investors, take note. (Either that or it was really just Peek-a-Boo holding this thread together all along...)

@Octane, I played Shadow Fall at launch and while it wasn't a waste of time to play, found it utterly forgettable and bland, but at least it was better than the all dark and shadowy PS3 KZ. I got more value out of Knack.....

@redd214 I don't think there was anything specifically bad about it, but the fact that it was a console launch title from a flagship 1st party series implied it should have been something more than a really short, by the numbers, generic shooter. It's a good game. But it would still be a good game as something from Focus Home Interactive more than a Sony IP from Guerilla. I've been rebuying some of my launch era classics digitally.....I skipped over KZ....

@Ryu_Niiyama tagging from an old conversation but if you're looking for a PS4 controller that sucks less but doesn't cost a fortune, check out the Hori Onyx (Like the Razer Raiju, it's not for sale in the US but is easily buyable.) It's a licensed wireless controller in the XBox layout. It's not perfect. It's too light, the grips are too short, but it has good sticks and d-pad, and bumpers. The triggers however just feel wrong (then again I don't like DS4 triggers either so it's kind of a wash.) These may feel worse. I also has a weird issue that it doesn't seem to charge on generic USB chargers, it wants to be plugged into the PS4 (or a PC) to charge.

Overall I like the Raiju best, but it's wired and still has parallel sticks (but they feel soooo much better than DS4) and it has a non-Dpad (great for menu navigation, useless for d-pad play). I haven't tried the Nacon Revolution v2 yet (XBox layout, wired only but it looks good)

But for licensed wireless Onyx is fairly good. I imagine the Scuf is "perfect", but Onyx is less than half the price, and probably more reliable long term.....

Its because we have a seperate site to use too, unlike the Xbox ghost town sites

I enjoyed Knack as well, we replayed it probably 5 or 6 times even got the platinum on it. Waiting for Knack 2 to go on sale on the psn again to pick that up as well.

@NEStalgia Spider-Man is September, so I'm sure this thread was coming back one day or another. We don't have a Thanos spamming here every single day

I wonder what's @Peek-a-boo is up to? Last time he talked about moving around the time of E3, but it's been a while..!

Anyway, we shall see. I like it so far. Just a solid shooter. I went in with zero expectations, and that's helping me for sure!

Octane

NEStalgia

@Octane Maybe, but I'm Thanos' main instigator so you guys can play along here

Yeah I was surprised to see Peek (Peek-a? Pik? PIIKAAA!) missing so long... I figured it was just a few weeks. Sony shares have likely tanked in his absence. I'd sell now.

I'll give KZ this: Between it and Battlefield 4, I'm confident I made the right choice on launch day.

I keep felling like an outsider in the PS world now after kind of redoubling and rebuying all my third party content and focusing on X1. Then I realized I have 37 (including PSVR, and the KH complete kit yet to purchase) PS games in my backlog....... Not as much as my X1 collection but they're all enormous games. Switch is sadly the outlier with less games....yet I play that most.....

I'm curious about reports of Spidey. Ill get that in year or two when it's cheap. It looks too much like the Activision Spidey games that were "ok but meh." Yet Insomniac has never let me down.....I'm conflicted. Wake me when Tsushima launches. Yakuza Kiwami II and KH Complete are my next PS purchases either way. Shenmue 1 & 2 go to X (where they belong!) and I'm holding out to see if Shenmue III goes to X (where it really does belong...Devs are coy about it. )

@NEStalgia It looks a lot better than those Activision games for sure! And yeah, Insomniac behind it means it will be ''okay'' at very worst. There isn't a lot else I'm interested in that's coming out this year so Spidey will probably be my last day one game. After that it's DQXI and maybe Tomb Raider if I enjoy the first two games.

I don't think I have 37 PS4 games yet! Maybe if I count the digital titles...

My Switch is at 2

But I'm still waiting for Metroid and Pikmin.

Octane

NEStalgia

@Octane Persona 5, Yakuza Kiwami 1 (2, isn't out yet), 0, 6, Nioh (started it but I consider it backlog), Horizon Zero Dawn, GoW, NNK2, SotC, Last Guardian, Detroit, Star Ocean, some of the bigger ones in the list. I'm counting as 3 the 3 items in the KH bundle (1.5+1.8/ 2.8 / 3). I'm including back catalog too (FFX, X2, Ys Origin, etc.) Persona 5 alone will take a year! Between this collection and the even bigger X1 collection I should just stash an extra PS4 Pro and X1X in reserve and I won't need a new console for a whole generation!

Your poor Switch. XC2, XC2:Torna, Ys8, Shining Reso, LGP, Smash, Octopath, etc, etc....it's quite populated if you're into RPGs, anyway. I have a stack forming, just not as big as PS/XB. It's also not as compelling to buy as much without real sales And seriously Sushi Striker is so underestimated. My Goty 2018 right there! It may not be materially the best game, but darn it's fun and memorable! With that big list of PS4 games above and countless X1 titles more....it's Sushi Striker I spent time with this past month.

Meanwhile, I literally don't know how to start a conversation, so I really was counting on somebody else bumping this thread...thanks for that, this and the anime thread are the only reasons I come to this site.

Lately I've been playing around with dfifferent games, trying to see what'll grab me. Wipeout Omega Collection is still fun, though I'm not in a racing mood at the moment. Dragon's Crown Pro is still fun, but definitely best when played in short bursts. Same with Street Fighter V, and I'm looking forward to getting the Gloria costume for Laura at the end of the week, but I need something more substantial right now, but also not a massive grind...guess I could go back to Uncharted 3, but I don't remember where the story was going there.

I'm sure I'll figure it out. I also got a ton of digital games to play, too, so I'm never short on options, just time...

@NEStalgia I think I’m going to get the spiderman pro so I’ll revisit contollers then I think. Just been working on my game database and octopath.

@NEStalgia Having played Horizon, SOTC, TLG, GOW and Detroit, I can say they're all solid games. GOW is probably my favourite game of this generation so far. And I'm a big sucker for Team ICO stuff. I can't wait for their next project.

I recently bought Killzone Shadow Fall and Ratchet & Clank, because they announced those awful Sony Selects editions or whatever they call them. I don't like it when publishers do that, cause it means I'm rushing out to get the regular edition while I still can. Bloodborne and MGSV:TPP are also in the backlog. I don't play a lot of games with the never-ending heat wave going on right now, but I try to slip in a few hours every week.

Only got Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey for the Switch so far lol. Well, I guess I have Snipperclips and Golf Story too. I'm waiting on some solid action-adventure games. Anything by Nintendo really, anything that isn't a Wii U game, a €60 platformer or Smash. That's a €20 for me. It can't be too different from the last iteration, right?

@CanisWolfred It's Uncharted, can't be too difficult to follow. And it's short enough to restart it at any point.

Octane

NEStalgia

@Ryu_Niiyama Game..........database? 0_o

@Octane Ratchet & Clank is amazing. Unlike my apithy for Killzone R&C will stand out to me as one of the top games this gen (and is the main reason, along with Sunset Overdrive I have an eye on Spidey despite generally not caring about Spiderman at all). Insomniac just knows how to make crazy fun. I went into it expecting another Future, but the game, while short, is one of the few games that I actually sat and replayed it like 5 times in a row. It's got the frantic gunplay of Doom, even zanier weapons than Serious Sam II (which it most reminds me of), and the fun world of R&C. Just a beautiful game. I was bummed though, I bought it (used) at retail and the 2 weeks later it showed up as the PS+ freebie.

Bloodborne....sigh I wan't to like it but can't (I have DS 2 & 3 on X1, still waiting for 1 on Switch first though, I'm interested in the new "Samurai Souls", but I think Nioh (yay Nioh 2!!) will be my preferred SoulsBorne. MGSV:TPP.....you know...it's on my X1 backlog (Played GZ on PS4 when new)....and I still don't know how I feel about that game. It does some things so well....and does other things so weird....I survived the intro section and got to the proper main game, but the bizarreness of the opener left me kind of uninterested in continuing for now. I'll get back to it someday.....after the other 120 or so must play titles when the rumors of the PS6 launch are heating up...

LOL, I'm with you on Smash....I think us anti-Smashers have to hide in the PS/XB threads. Saying anything other than pure adulation of Smash in the main Nintendo threads might yield death threats. Weeeirrrd bunch those Smashers.

@CanisWolfred I finally picked up the Wipeout HD collection....I'm hesitant to try it in VR, but I couldn't resist! I haven't played Wipeout since the Vita version (still the best one, IMO!)

Uncharted 3....depends what part you were in. That's still my favorite Uncharted, or at least tied with 4. I loved the Lawrence of Arabia vibe. The end was kinda weird......but the rest was fun. I haven't tried Lost Legacy yet though. I'll get to it....

Octane

@NEStalgia Good to know! I've heard good things about R&C, but I've never played any of the games. They all looked like cheap Mario knock-offs to me, along with Spyro (which I did play on the GBA), Sly, Jak and that other thing, Banjo-Kazooie (I'm still not a fan). You know, all the anthropomorphic jumping animals with a buddy. I liked Croc though. But western cartoony games have this weird aesthetic, especially those early 3D games. I'm not sure how to describe them, but Rayman 3 looks the same as well. I only know I'm not a fan of the aesthetic. It looks so fake, plastic-y maybe? No soul, bland? They lack context in their aesthetics... All these words don't make any sense, do they? At least the new R&C looks a lot better to me, but maybe that's because it looks like a Pixar cartoon.

Dark Souls is pretty neat. I only played 1 and 3 (partly). Bloodborne is just a big commitment, and I don't want to end up like Tropical Freeze where I invest a bunch of time, then quit at some point (hunting collectibles in TF), and find all my skill is gone after 3 or 4 months when I come back to it. So I want to beat it all in one go, not a single sitting, but I want it to be my main game for however long it takes. Maybe later this year...!

I've played Smash since the N64, and whilst every new game introduced a few new things, the idea of all the old stuff coming back sounds like the ultimate port to me. And not in the good way. I'm always looking for new experiences, so the idea of having every I've already played as in a single game just doesn't grab me. I've always said that they should just ditch 30-40 characters and add a bunch of new ones instead, Nintendo has plenty of unused Nintendo characters left. Alas, looks like a quiet year for me on the Switch front!

@NEStalgia heh. Um yeah so my company is still trying to build a position to transition me into that uses my skillset so I’m currently functioning as a jack of a few trades but I ‘m a data professional (at least until I finish grad school, then I can actually work in my field) So since I’m bored out of my mind and having to box up my game collection gave me the idea of building a collection database in sql server (and access for kicks since I am rusty with access) for all of my crap. Which I will build a dashboard and reports for. It’s overkill but it gives me a sand box I care about and if my collection catches fire I will have it well itemized for insurance (knock on wood) ;that and wood working (and studying of course) are how I spend my off time. Which reminds me, need to pick up some cut nails today.

However because of this I’m taking pictures, cleaning cartridge shells and replacing artwork, cases and labels. I dread when I get to my books or music table.

I'm halfway through...I really don't want to restart. Might just rush to the end without looking for treasures, save that for a replay down the road.

I'm with you guys on Ratchet and Clank. Took my boys to see the movie when it came out in theaters and surprised them with the game once we left. Such a terrific game. Tried Bloodborne when it came to plus but I just can't get into the Souls games. The learning curve in those game is just so off putting for me. I don't mind hard games but when it just starts out punishingly difficult it just kills my motivation to continue.

@Octane I agree on GOW. Just got 100%and the platinum last week and man thats a special game. Perhaps it stems from being a father of boys but I don't think I've ever been that interested and invested in a game story as much. I really loved Horizon and genuinely thought it was going to be tough to top but GOW came a year later and blew it away for me. Best game on the ps4 imo.

And for whatever reason I just can't get along with the Uncharted games. I've played some of 2, all of 3, and a bit of 4 and just don't find them fun at all. Same thing with the Last of Us now that I think about it. I enjoy the stories but find them a bit boring as games dunno why.
