I'm tired of Death Stranding and its shtick. The whole "we're going to be extremely vague about what's going on in this game" has long worn out its welcome, they need to start giving actual gameplay details. Or even story details.
@MisterPi It's not that difficult. You play as Norman Reedus, there's walking, climbing, shooting, stealth, scary stuff, and babies. Death plays a big role, you die, but according to the latest trailer and Kojima's comments, that's not an issue, but it will affect the world. I'm glad it's something different and not just another Ubified open world game with markers, and I'm glad they're not spoiling the story.
@Octane Nah, it's not enough anymore. We got some more walking and some more hand prints and some more floaty demon clouds. Nothing has been explained or expanded upon since the last time it was shown. It's just more of the same vague nonsense.
@Octane Yes it does! I mean I guess people are coasting on the fact that it's Kojima, but for someone like me, who hasn't experienced any Kojima games, I want to have a reason to be hyped for that game, and they haven't done a single thing to entice someone like me
@MisterPi But don't you see? It's art! Art doesn't need to be explained, only interpretted and critiqued!
So my take: A man with a serious drug addiction is making the largest and most expensive cry for help possible. Yet Sony does nothing but enable his bad habits. Truly a tragedy for the ages.
Also, he might have a chew toy fetish. Seriously, what was up with the squeaky metal flashlight in the stage demo? That was just awful.

I'm just basically ignoring it until it comes out and gets reviews. Getting excited about something you don't understand makes no sense to me.
If I'm at all enthusiastic about it, it's purely because of Kojima's record and nothing to do with what we've seen.
@MisterPi I agree 100%. Only people who have played Kojima games and enjoy them can possibly be loving the "mystery and beauty" behind these trailers. The rest of us are just bored and want to know what the game actually is. Hand prints, pregnant Norman Reedus, and footage of Norman Reedus walking around is not going to excite anyone unfamiliar with Kojima. It's gotten so old.
@KirbyTheVampire I've only played the prologue to Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes, recently. I'm not sure what to think of it. I do like the trailer though. It's not the fact that it's Kojima, but the trailers themselves are very well made. I like the concept, the theme, the visuals. Great music. Every trailer is a new trailer, but I don't have the feeling that it's spoiling anything at all. There's a certain art in making trailer, and even though I have no idea whether the final game will be good or not, they do make me want to play the game.
@Dezzy What? The weird alien, dystopian setting, devoid of any life with beached animals everywhere, armies of undead skeletons, the invisible shadow creatures that swallow you in the black mud/oil. The concept of death having an in-game explanation, with little consequence on the player, but a big consequence on the environment. It's a world I would like to explore.

That sounds like the exact opposite of a world I would like to explore. I mean, more power to you, but I'm just throwing this out there - I'm very much terrified of the world Kojima has created here, and at this point, I want nothing to do with it...
So my thoughts on the first party PS4 games shown at E3
The Last of Us Part 2: I hate The Last of Us and I will most definitely won't play the second. It just feels way too grizzly and forced imo, just like the first game.
Ghost of Tsushima: That game looks GORGEOUS. The lighting and colors look super spot on and the ancient japanese aesthetic is just very cool. Gonna get it because Sucker Punch is doing a real good job with the title.
Death Stranding: That game still looks weird but I'm still interested in it.
Spider Man: I was completely sold on this game since 2015, when they stated Insomniac is developing a Spider Man game. And since then, I just loved seeing it each and every time as it looks beautiful and the web slinging looks a whole lot of fun. Also loved it that the Sinister Six is hinted at and the combat looks a whole lot of fun and GAH, I want September to come around so I can just bask on it's greatness.
@Octane They're well made trailers for sure, but they can only hold my interest for so long if they won't reveal what the game actually is. Oh well, has to happen eventually.

Well that's just listing things you've seen in the trailers.
Anyone could just come up with a series of really random things and stick them together so it looks weird. It needs to all have some kind of coherent lore and logical structure to it before I think I can be described as an actual concept.
It also needs a clear gameplay style to get people interested. So far, it doesn't actually look like a game in any way.
Like I said, I'm still confident it'll be good. But that confidence is very much coming from loving his previous work rather than these trailers. That confidence could be completely mistaken though. Maybe Kojima needed to be part of a fairly mainstream series in order to focus his creativity into something enjoyable and that Sony have given him so much freedom that it'll just be completely unplayable nonsense when it releases.

He certainly wouldn't be the first "genius" who needed his vision to be focused into something cohesive by outside parties.
Exactly. Highly creative people are not always good at putting things into a functional structure. That's generally a different kind of skill set.
Agreed.
So...I had the Ubisoft conference going on in the backround when it was airing live, but didn't really pay attention to it, since I figured I wasn't missing much - it's Ubisoft, they don't make games, they just sell you DLC/Microtransaction platforms.
...Apparently The Division 2 won't have a Season Pass, instead having some free DLC episodes released over a set period. That's good news. Mind you...I started writing this with extreme enthusiasm - hurray! One of the biggest publishers is actually scaling back on Season Passes! Woohoo!
Then I remembered the Micro-transaction part. Hopefully they don't just double down on that and design the whole game so it psychologically manipulates you into spending more money. Not to mention...I never thought The Division looked like a very good game? I mean, it was kind of popular, especially later on, but man...it just looks ugly and repetitive, IMO. And the sequel looks too similar to really draw me in and say, "hey, maybe I'll give this series another chance!" At least there's a chance they're not gonna milk the fans.
...but if they do, it'll be genuinely deceptive and I can go back to ignoring Ubisoft in its entirety.
If it isn't and Ubisoft is actually responding positively to criticism, though, I might even give Skull & Bones a look. It is basically the game I wanted Ubi to make after Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flags, after all...
