@Grumblevolcano while true, the recent results (sales) are showing that people don't care as much, they want games. Sony has that in spades atm. It doesn't make any logical sense for Sony to play their hand first when it comes to the next generation. I'm sure the ps5 is deeply in the works but why reveal it first and potentially be one upped when you're outselling your closest competitor more than 2 to 1. That being said big companies do illogical things all the time but this one is painfully obvious. If they do want to win the "arms race" With MS may as well wait for the next generation because like I said not having the most powerful box is in no way shape or form stopping them from having the best selling console right now.

@redd214 I'm not saying it would be a wise decision, rather that it would be very much like them to announce a successor just because the rival company has a more powerful console.

As soon as Sony announces the PS5, Microsoft's marketing for the Xbox One X is no longer true and so that forces Microsoft into an awkward position because of how recent the Xbox One X is.

I just really don't see it happening soon. I know businesses can be weird but this would be bad for them in pretty much every single way. It would fly in the face of all common sense. It's possible, but I don't see it happening.

@Grumblevolcano What's in it for Sony other than to cause a bit of panic at Microsoft's PR department for a week?

@Grumblevolcano OTOH, Sony's still by far the leader, and MS has the powerful machine that few are buying still. Sony could keep status quo until their own sales slow, forcing MS to have to push the next hardware just in a desperate attempt to try to wow people again, only for Sony to just 1-up them (as they always do.) Sony has NEVER benefited from going first on hardware. Most of their success is to follow their competitor, be it MS or Sega and just "do right" everything the competitor does wrong. They sunk the Saturn, they sunk the Dreamcast, they sunk the One with that strategy. Why change? Announcing a PS5 now slows software momentum on the PS4. And software momentum is excellent. Especially with digital sales king this gen, they're less interested in retail impact of no new SKU as well.

Plus the PS4 Pro isn't much older than the X1X....they have to watch out for perception issues as well.

@Dezzy Sony made noises about moving away from generations and into just an upgrade stream like phones, but I don't see them sticking to that now, this gen worked so well for them. MS however, I fully see moving into an upgrade stream. They're just selling cheap gaming PCs. There may never be an XBox Two, just an X-2 or what have you (with full back compat etc, and "this game supports X-2, X, and S, does not work on One) etc. I do see PS5 being PS5, but it may also be backward compatible with 4, meaning the gen really goes on indefinitely. 8th gen is the gen consoles became PCs. Is there a 9th gen?

Battlefield V reveal trailer.

Looks pretty good graphics and gameplay wise:

Looks pretty terrible in terms of historical accuracy. One of the main characters is a woman with a robot arm. Erm what? Almost none of the militaries in WW2 had women in combat roles (the Soviet Union being the only exception), and they sure as hell didn't have the technology to build working robot arms in 1940.
Nitpicking perhaps but still irritating for history nerds like me. Given the release schedule of Q4 2018, seems unlikely I'll get it anyway.

@Dezzy Seems highly scripted to me!

And yeah, this seems to be set in an alternative universe, like Bethesda's Wolfenstein games

Octane

KirbyTheVampire

I'm down for an alternate universe. Historically accurate WW2 games have been done to literal death.

KirbyTheVampire

Octane

@KirbyTheVampire Well, they're not calling it that. From what I can tell, they're posing this as a historically accurate WW2 game.

Octane

KirbyTheVampire

@Octane Hmmm, strange. Not really sure where they're going with this in that case.

Dezzy

Apparently the woman with the robot arm might be just a multiplayer creation from the character creator, rather than a part of the single player campaign.
So that would be not quite as bad I guess. It would also explain why one of the guys was carrying a katana. Not really a common weapon in the british army.

It wasn't me then, I thought I was seeing things!

Just with how damn long Sony takes to release their games, AAAs announced at E3 this year will be the last big first-party games of the generation. That's assuming all the rumors about a 2020 or 2021 PS5 launch.

We'll see how E3 turns out, but it's telling that they said their focus would be on 4 already announced games (especially since they choseDeath Stranding, which is almost certainly not coming until after 2019). Put that in the context of their last big first-party announcement being Ghosts of Tsushima last fall, and before that God of War and Spider-Man all the way back at E3 2016.

Posting this over at PushSquare too but for anybody who doesn't check there, this is a deal for those in the Americas. Just follow this link, https://live.playstation.com/detroit-become-human sign in with your PSN account and follow the button at the bottom labeled 'quests.' You can get a 20% off code simply for watching the launch trailer. I believe it can be used for any purchase on the PS Store.

@Gamer83 Urgh...

Us British and European folks cannot use that code. It seems that random generous codes like these only applies to the North and South American nations ~ 20% off for God of War - $48 - is a bargain at the moment, given that it is still holding its RRP a month on.

You can even use it for Dark Souls Remastered, Detroit: Become Human and the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection! I feel mildly annoyed all of a sudden...

Anyhoo, the Battlefield V trailer that Dezzy posted on the page prior to this is so, so bombastic and over scripted that you can only laugh at its absurdity! And releasing this game slap bang in between Black Ops IIII and Red Dead Redemption 2 takes quite a lot of guts.

I thoroughly hope it won’t end up being another Titanfall 2 scenario.

And the whole PlayStation 4 entering its final stages has been clarified elsewhere as being with the next two or three years, which works out as 2020-2021. A seven or eight years lifespan is perfectly fine by me.

The Xbox One X may well be the most powerful console on the market however, there’s still over 95% of folks to think about who own an OG Xbox One or the Xbox One S. I sincerely doubt Sony are ‘worried’ about that system, especially with the year that the PlayStation 4 is having.

And the gall of Rare to put these highly historically inaccurate robot arms and legs into Sea of Thieves. Shame on them, and shame on Dice. Feed their firstborns to the wolves!!!

@Peek-a-boo
Yeah, should've clarified, sorry about that. Going to edit my previous post.

redd214

@Gamer83 thank for posting that. The seem to be doing that every month now. I think I've gotten a code every month this far in 2018 just from watching a couple minute videos. Once again thanks

@redd214
No prob.

Not sure how many 20% off codes I've seen but Sony has been killing it with the PS Plus sales.

With Best Buy ending their gamer program, I think I'll definitely be making way more digital purchases. The console makers must be excited for their potential digital sales increase with physical discounts becoming rarer and rarer.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I got Dragon's Crown Pro on PS4 and it is absolutely stunning on a 4K tv with the Pro. It really makes me wish we could see Octopath Traveler in such a high resolution.
