Apart from MH:World, I don’t think I’ve spend more than €15 for a game yet. There is enough to play but very few I consider worthy of full price, and it seems Sony agrees so that works out great.

Interesting read about a demo of RDR2 this person played. Some interesting tidbits:

  • Horse AI is supposedly great. They'll be stubborn and wild, but will chill out the more they trust you. You can apparently groom, feed, and calm them.
  • Additionally, you can use them to carry carcasses to feed your gang, larger weapons, and other stuff.
  • Story missions are expertly integrated into the normal flow of the game, to the point where it feels less like you're doing something gamey like going on a quest and more like you're living this guy's life.
  • This level of detail and integration apparently extends to the rest of the game as well.
  • Hunting is detailed and brutally realistic.

This sounds fantastic so far. Might be the first Western AAA game I buy at launch since Arkham Knight.

@NEStalgia The director of the game kinda confirmed that God of War won't get any DLC. But I cannot explain why without spoiling the story of the game.

No DLC is a bold move, but if it means we can get another one from them sooner, I definitely don't mind

It's most definitely gonna get a sequel though apparently. From what I was told, the game leaves a lot of points and stuff unanswered.

@MisterPi It feels like the base game already comes with DLC. There's quite a lot to do, even after the ending credits.

Yahtzee reviewed God of War.

I have to admit, I absolutely love the phrase "serious hairy dad game."

I was hoping someone would post that just so I can have an excuse to mention how scary it is that I almost always agree with his opinions. Makes me wonder if I just relate to him, or if I've been watching his videos for so long that I'm starting to think like him. Mind you, I haven't played God of War 4, but I'd be surprised at this point if I disagreed with his assessment considering how rarely that's happened over the years...

Peek-a-boo

@Octane I went back home and... OMG! Thhooorrrr!

I didn’t go home in the first place because I became distracted by thinking about the Valkyries.

I can see you know your Greek mythology! I have read Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology last summer, and am surprised at how good a read it is as well as a perfect book to compliment God of War.

Like I said, given that Mimir spoke about Odin and Thor so much, I half expected to see them at the end however, whilst we got a brief - but awesome - glimpse of Thor, it does make sense to leave them for the next game. If the fight(s) with Baldur were relentless, I cannot imagine just how good Thor is going to be!

The mural at the end seems to imply that Aretus/Loki may have already ‘given birth’ to the World Serpent, seeing as the creature itself says that he felt a certain something about Aretus as well as being able to speak and understand its language. I am really looking forward to seeing which direction they take Loki ~ are we going to see the mischievous side, or is Cory Barlog going somewhere slightly different?

Who knows, and that in itself is an exciting enough proposition for me!

I’m going to go for the Platinum trophy BTW! Only done it with a couple of games such as Gravity Rush 2, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Horizon Zero Dawn and both the original and the prequel to Life is Strange.

Haven't clicked the spoilers. Just wondering though, is the last boss the real last boss? Or is there a big bad after the credits, excluding the big troll dudes that show up in some side quests.

Also,
I loved Freya, but not after that ending. Yeah yeah, I get it. He was her son. But wow, I thought she would be the one god to actually bypass the illogical idiocy of most of the other gods in the franchise. But yet again it just turns into a predictable "YOU MURDERED MY SON EVEN THOUGH YOU WERE BOTH PROTECTING ME, PROTECTING YOUR OWN SON, AND EVEN LET HIM HAVE A CHANCE AT REDEMPTION. I WILL END YOU AND MAKE YOU REGRET" blah blah blah. Screw off, lady.

@MisterPi You’ll definitely know when the game ends for good.

Just listen to what Kratos says to BOY instead of going off the beaten track like I did...

And some of the attacks are so, so beautiful to pull off!

@Peek-a-boo That's the attack I have on my axe now! It is so satisfying. And thanks for the information, I had a feeling there would be more!

I really love the tone of the game. By far my favorite moments are the cute interactions between the three characters when you're out an about. Kratos likes to say "I am always serious" but he has his own brand of charm

@Peek-a-boo I believe that Mimir mentioned at some point that the World Serpent will fight with Thor during Ragnarok, just like in the real mythology, but the World Serpent will be sent back in time at the end of the fight. That explains why he's already there before Atreus/Loki shows up, and why he recognises him. At least, that's how I understood it. So the event of him giving 'birth' to the World Serpent has yet to come. I expect that Fenrir and Hel will show up in a similar fashion. Kratos seems to be siding with the 'bad guys', and I guess that kinda makes sense since you are fighting the 'good' gods.

I think I'm going for platinum too, not because I care about the trophy, but because I only have to do a couple of fights in Muspelheim. I already did everything else apparently. I got 100% on all the maps today!

I'll check out that book by the way, it's only €15(!) for the hardcover version. Thanks for the recommendation!

@MisterPi Let's just say that there are optional boss fights that are way harder than anything else in the game. So there's plenty to do after the credits roll!

@Peek-a-boo That gif is just a mess. Maybe its the compression but you aren't selling me on that I'm afraid. Just a blur of indistinct colours. I can make out the general shape of Kratos but the thing he is fighting is near invisible. Same for whatever it was Kratos moved out of the way from initially. I assume that was an attack?

This disability is fun XD
