@Peek-a-boo I saw it in my usual store yesterday, hadn't realized it was so close to being sold out. I'll have to take a look today then and see if they still have it, thanks!

@Octane I’m going out for a meal shortly so I won’t be able to ramble on about the story just yet however, when you mentioned ...

... that the mistletoe is Baldur’s weakness, and that you put two-and-two together, I was grinning to myself knowing you were right!

For Mimor to talk about Thor and Odin so much for so long throughout the game, you’d expect to see them towards the end, but alas... It does makes me feel very excited about the inevitable sequel though, as we shall likely meet (and fight) those two, see how Atreus handles being Loki (does he become a good Giant/God or mischievous as Loki is typically known to be?) and the eventual Ragnarök event.

p.s. Jesus Christ. The way the spoiler tags works on this website is terrible.

Just had to delete half of what I wanted to say due to its incompetence...

@link3710 I'd wait until after E3 to be honest and make a decision from there. Not that I believe the 2018 PS5 rumours (2019 seems a lot more likely) but E3 announcements may change your mind about what bundle to get if any.

@Grumblevolcano Yeah, I just checked stock online and it's sold out in store now it seems. Ah well, probably best I wait, as you said.

@Ryu_Niiyama I don't care if Lara was cool. Her games were pretty mediocre back then. That's the more important part.

@link3710 Yeah, DOOM was blamed for the demise of civilization in the 90's. If you can take DOOM, you can take pretty much anything. (I can do Doom but not horror (or Doom 3....which is horror....)

NEStalgia

Ryu_Niiyama

@NEStalgia Tell that to most of the guys that played her games because of her cup size. Or the gals that didn't because they got sick of hearing guys talk about her cup size (waves). She is made of pixels...calm down. Back to my original point though. If she had been that cool when I was a kid I would have gotten a playstation growing up.

Got my Yakuza 6 LE. I don't drink but the glasses are very nice. I don't have my PS4 atm so no comment on the game. Looking forward to playing at some point though (I'd just started 4 so it will be a bit lmao).

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah I never really got that from that series. I could see that response today with all the glory of jiggle physics in play, but the Lara of old still looked like an anemic distorted chibi-poly-person made of plastic. I know it was a thing....I never got it, myself. I mostly remember the horrid, horrid, horrid DX10 implementation in...what was it, 4? Where the bloom would grind PCs to dust. And it really wasn't that great a series (at all.) I'm all for the new series (not so much that new movie though...blech.)

Yakuza (6 - 6)?

Ralizah

@NEStalgia New TR movie was fine. Nothing revolutionary, but easily the best cinematic video game adaptation I've ever seen.

Ryu_Niiyama

@NEStalgia LMAO I never got into the old movies (Jolie is a hit or miss with me...although she has become more amicable with age for me) and I go to like a movie a year (Black Panther for me) so I've no interest in the movie series. I have only played the new series (beat the first one ...started the second one...) so no clue how the others ran. However poor PC optimization would kill my enjoyment of any series.

Are you asking how many Yakuza games there are? If you count the samurai spinoffs there are 11 I think (I believe there was only one psp game, 2 samurai spin offs, the zombie one that I pretend doesn't exist and 7 mainline games as I dont count remakes like kiwami.). I was working through them slowly because i was typing out the script for translating exercises but I'm forgetting story-lines (and my Japanese has improved) so I will likely take next year and start from scratch.

@NEStalgia I can only really manage Doom in handheld mode, thanks to the (and I'll be crucified for saying this I'm sure), relatively poor image quality. I tried playing it on my friend's PC rig, and it was... too much, haven't dared try it in docked mode even.

Octane

@Peek-a-boo Yeah, I thought you had to go and get those arrows back, but that tiny little fragment did the job!

Here's an interesting fact, Jormungandr, the world serpent, is a son of Loki in Norse mythology, I wonder how that will play out!

Did you ever go home at the end of the game by the way?

@Peek-a-boo Some more God of War thoughts...

I saw the Easy Allies podcast yesterday with Cory Barlog, and he revealed some interesting details. He worked at LucasArts for a while, and there learned that the George Lucas originally wrote dozens of episodes before he even started working on the original Star Wars film. Cory apparently did the same thing for God of War, so everything's already planned out. His idea was that it doesn't matter if he gets to make them all, but this allows him to reference upcoming games without the players knowing it. This way they don't have to make stuff up as they go, and everything will feel more coherent in the end.

And this is true for the first game as well. If you re-watch the light scene from Alfheim, you will see that it basically shows you the entire game. You start off at home, then there's a bit that sees you exploring the beaches and inside the mountain, climbing the mountain, going back home (when you get the blades of chaos), the boat sequence from Hel and even walking the bridge in Jotunheim!

Anyway, this could also explain why that Dark Elf said that it was a great mistake killing him, even though that's never brought up again in the rest of the game. It could be setting up something for a sequel, or a third game. I think that Freya telling Atreus that the green arrows are evil is a similar situation, a very subtle way revealing the rest of the game without people knowing it. I'm certain that a second playthrough will reveal much more!

Another thing I remembered was Atreus asking Kratos, when he discovered he was a god, if he could turn into animals. Loki is actually known for being able to turn into animals, so that's a pretty neat reference. Baldr is also killed by Loki in Norse mythology, so it all makes sense in the end. And you could even catch Atreus' real name, Loki, written in Norse runes on the mural in Jotunheim before Kratos revealed it.

I'm still not sure what the bird in Hel is for though! It's just sitting there, foreshadowing... something!

Cory also hinted that the world serpent, Jormungandr, may have said more than Mimir told us. So there's that!

And there are some interesting tales revolving Odin and Baldr, and Loki, Thor and Jormungandr, but I won't spoil that in case it comes up in the upcoming games! Anyway, thinking about this game made me want to have another one right now! I cannot wait to see what they come up with next.

@Ryu_Niiyama I can't remember what the last movie I saw was. I'm not sure if it was this decade or not. May not have been. Nothing in theaters interests me these days (odd for a gamer to be turned off by superhero films but.....yeah, it does nothing for me. ) All the theaters are now "dine-in" theaters. Great. So I have to smell someone's cajun searked steak with garlic-avocado glaze while I try to watch a movie.....in addition to hear their cell phones and get my seat kicked in by their kids. No thanks. I'll just fire up the Playstation....

I just realized that "Yakuza (6-6)? looks like an emoji. It was mathematical. Yakuza (6-6)=0. sigh. It was a Wednesday, cut me a break.

@link3710 Doom (reboot) is nice and tame if gratuitously bloody. if you hate yourself, try Doom 3. It's Doom. In a survival-horror environment with few moving things (how is that Doom?) and a flashlight in the dark most of the time. Yikes! Sure Doom (reboot) is fountains of blood....but it's so extreme it's not very real. I'm the last to go for gratuitous violence, and Doom isn't so bad. Mostly because it's actual demons you're slaying, not people, save the zombies, and you're moving too fast to notice the blood stained scenery portraying the earlier demon invasion. I still refuse to play The Last of Us, and Half-Life (1) creeped me out.

@everyoneelse Oh no, this thread is turning into a blacked out classified document release {redacted} like the Zelda thread.....

@redd214 I'll catch it in a year and a half when it's the PSN freebie.... Because every exclusive I buy becomes the PSN freebie..... Though I admit I just bought Nier: Automata and Yakuza remake on the Golden Week sale.

Just to confirm once again with everyone here: The PSN freebies, if you "purchase" them but don't download them, and your sub lapses, you can still download them when you renew, right?

NEStalgia

redd214

@NEStalgia Yes. If you "purchase" them and your sub lapses you will have to either resub or buy them outright. Even if you download them onto your system and your sub runs out the games will be locked once again until you resub or buy.

As far as the GOW goes, you'll be waiting a while for that man. Sure many exclusives have become plus freebies I highly doubt the likes of Horizon of GOW would anytime soon. We still haven't even gotten Killzone and that was a lunch title lol. Just wait until the holidays I'm sure it'll be $30. More than worth it at 60 and a steal at a that price.

redd214

Ralizah

@NEStalgia

My man! Let's start a "I'll play God of War when it hits PS+" club!

Also bought Nier: Automata in the sale, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Need to clear up some of the JRPGs I already have going.

Yep. Once you add a game to your account via PS+, it's available for good (although, to actually play them, you have to be subscribed).

@redd214 Thanks, I thought that was the case but wanted to be sure!

Haha yeah that was a bit of a joke, but, Horizon went, what, half price in 2 months? (I was miffed by that as a pre-orderer.) I still haven't even opened the shrink wrap (but already bought the DLC on the Jan sale....) I've sworn off pre-ordering PS/XB games at this point. There's enough freebies and good sale backlog to keep me busy until the current new hawtness is $14.29 with + savings. (and then free.) Except Detroit. I'm such a sucker for that game...... For Nintendo games it pays. The prices don't drop, there's no freebies, and there's often swag. But only Nintendo gets day-one buys from me now. (Except Detroit...)

@Ralizah LOL, it's the truth! I'm kind of impressed at how + has been going this year. Beyond is a bit of a downer but overall they've had a huge quality jump. It may be related to Game Pass announcing the enhancements. I didn't expect exclusives to start showing up in the free pile so quickly. I pictured they'd keep it B-grade games forever.

My RPG backlog is large now with big games. Xenoblade, Octopath (soon), FFXV, Horizon, P5.... I keep pushing them back to complete smaller games first. Just finished (mostly) Hitman....that was oddly fun. I'm not super into stealth games but that one worked. It feels a little speedier than MGS which usually involves me hiding in a box for 40 minutes waiting for opportunities. Nier may sit on the virtual shelf for a while...I think it's time to show Switch some love now that the backlog is getting bigger again and I'm wrapping up DQB soon. Kirby, DK, South Park all look tempting. Haven't even opened L.A.Noire and Skyrim yet. With Plus getting good and these sales I may become a budget gamer soon. There's little downside these days. Just grab PSN and XBO freebies and build a virtual library for $18 a month... plus the good sales

@NEStalgia Well, they're dropping Vita/PS3 games soon, so they'll have less of an excuse to fill the service with low-grade experiences. Plus, they recently increased the price for a year-long sub, and there's a huge number of top shelf games they can give away at this point.

Realistically, I don't expect GoW for at least a couple of years, but I'm not excited about it, so that suits me.

I try to ignore sales as much as possible. Buying games and then not playing them doesn't benefit me at all, and it's not like they won't go on sale again. Still, it's hard. I'm a well-trained consumer, unfortunately.

@Ralizah Yeah I got the email they were dropping Vita/PS3 in March.....and then they still have it. That confused me. They raised the price for EU I think....still $60 in the US (for now?)

Realistically I expect GoW to be sub-$40 within the next 5 months or less. Seems to be how they price these things now. Not free, probably ever because it's one of the top top titles. But deep discounts (with DLC!)

LOL, yeah....same here. Though it's not bad to have a huge cache of stuff you bought at low prices. It removes the cravings to buy stuff at high prices almost entirely. (Who cares about the new game when I have 30 of "new" games I was hyped for and still didn't get to yet? And I bought them all for the price of 5.) Back in my PC days had to stockpile games (because I HAD to buy release day!) and my PC at the time couldn't run half of them. When I finally built a new rig I had like 2 years of the best gaming in my life. A shelf full of stuff to pick, hidden gems, and actual patched complete products.
