I'm just walking away from puzzles that feel too overwhelming or involved right now, even if they're at the end of a sequence I've otherwise completed. It's too bad there's not a way to track which puzzles you've seen but not completed.
It really is pretty, though. Another example of a game that benefited tremendously from ditching a realistic visual aesthetic. The vivid colors remind me of The Wind Waker.
I mean, the environment itself is pretty boring. No weather or interactivity at all. But I appreciate good eye candy.
I should look and see if there's a mod to speed up that boat. Got on it yesterday, told it to travel to a location not horrendously far from where I was, and it probably took a good five minutes to get there. Now I'm apparently stuck in the area unless I go back on the awful boat.
At least there's no boring cutscenes. Just wandering around and completing puzzles. I like the simplicity of that.
@Ralizah Ohh, that would be nice! At least until I get into the rhythm of when they do it (and get into reading PushSquare.) I've never really gotten into the digital side of PS, but it's pretty addictive now that I've discovered it.
@NEStalgia Usually it's new sales on Tuesdays, plus occasional Flash sales on either weekends (or Thursdays?) or Holidays. They usually post big ones in the offical Playstation Blog, which is where I used to check before I decided to just...slow down on purchases for a while. Did pretty good last year.
@Ralizah You know you can speed the boat up, right?
Also think that all of them are mandatory if you want to complete the game, and the game does track your completion status and even the location of important puzzles, you just need to be a little observant...
The island isn't too big fortunately, so you'll know your way around it sooner than later.
@Octane I did speed up the boat, but it refused to stay on the highest setting. And yeah, it tracks the number of puzzles I've completed, but that doesn't help much. Where do you see the locations of important puzzles? The only map I've found so far was on the boat.

@Ralizah Part of the game is discovering it yourself I think, so I'm not going to spoil anything (unless you really want me to).
That's weird. It should stay on the highest setting. Did the boat stop, or did it slow down on its own and go to a lower setting? I've had times when I accidentally cancelled the puzzle by pressing X too early, make sure you go all the way to the end point.
@Octane I wasn't aware the location of a map was considered a spoiler! Well, I'll play it regardless.
It just flipped down to the second-highest setting, which is still a slow crawl. This game needs either a speed boat or quick travel.
And yeah, I already messed up a puzzle or two by trying to solve it a split-second too early, so I'm careful to make sure the line is all the way at the end point.
@Ralizah Well, it took me a good 30 or so hours before I found it, so I felt pretty good about discovering it myself! And I probably walked right past it a million times.
It's been a while, but the boat is pretty fast on the highest setting. If it's any consolation, walking across the island takes no longer than minute at most. And you can run with R2.

The PS4 can't be BC with the PS2, because they don't even share the same architecture. Popping a PS2 disc in a PS4 won't do anything. What's happening is that hackers managed to reverse engineer the software that runs the PS2 Classics on PS4, and by dumping their own ROMs onto the system, they can make more PS2 playable on the PS4 (note: the article also mentions that not all of the games run very well using this method).
Yeahh, I figured that's why PS2 classics weren't more plentiful. I always assume that they take a fair bit of work to run properly. Similar to how a hacked 3DS can't really run backup DS games consistently for all games.

@RancidVomit86 ''However, others do not fare so well, and with no specific tuning, graphical gitches or other artefacts may intrude.''
It's not backwards compatible if you have to emulate or port the software. Don't know what Xbox is doing, but I do know that every game requires a lot of testing and fine tuning. It takes resources. And last time I checked, not all games are available yet. If Sony just dumped a bunch of ROM files on their store, people would complain that half of the games don't even run properly, and rightfully so.
Whilst I agree that the VC-style drip-feed release trickle of their PS2 Classics is awful, I don't think you can expect them to make those games available for free.
