This months Edge is really, really interesting for a multitude of reasons! I certainly don’t expect EA to send them a Christmas card this year...
Star Wars Battlefront II - 4
"The worst implementation of a loot system we've ever seen in a full-price game... the most miserly structure of the grubbiest of free-to-play games, plastered cynically over a full-priced product"
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 7
"It doesn't quite match the out-of-nowhere brilliance of the first game, nor is it as bold as the daring, but flawed, follow-up."
Call of Duty WWII - 7
“This is the best entry in the Call of Duty series since Call of Duty 2 was released twelve years ago, the latter of which just so happens to be set during the Second World War too.”
Need for Speed Payback - 4
"An open world that offers nothing but uneventful journeys between missions; draconian progression doled out loot box by loot box; tin-eared scripting and a wilful disregard for player freedom."
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp - 5
"Somewhere along the way, Animal Crossing has mislaid its soul."
Hidden Agenda - 6 (PS4)
Bury Me, My Love - 7 (iOS)
Million Onion Hotel - 8 (iOS)
There is also an overwhelmingly impressive 36-page Final Fantasy feature. If you are a longstanding fan of this longtime series, you will definitely wish to buy this issue! The little snippets about Final Fantasy VII and the upcoming remake is quite daunting - but interesting - to read.
p.s. For those of you who are interested, ‘The Making Of ... ’ feature is all about Undertale.
I hope XCX does end up on Switch despite being generally rated lower than the first Xenoblade. A port so more can experience it and then a sequel to follow on from the ending.
@Dezzy Lost Odyssey would like to have a word with you. Also, there were quite a few good JRPGs on handhelds, so even if LO wasn't a thing, that still wouldn't be true.
I guess that's the thing: I didn't like the characters or storytelling, wasn't particularly impressed with the music, and the world seemed boring and empty to me. Also, the characters were hideously ugly. And there were a lot of weird design choices that I hated.
@Haru17 Still don't understand what an MMO is, huh?
Lost Odyssey is maybe the only other one on consoles.
Handheld stuff I'm ambivalent with in genres like JRPGs. I need a massive and interesting world to explore for a good JRPG. The handhelds of the 7th gen were so limited in this regard.
I really liked Radiant Historia and I really liked Crisis Core but neither is really epic in the same way as Xenoblade or Lost Odyssey.
@YummyHappyPills PS+ trials work: you can just create a throwaway account and grab the free trial. You won't get the face paint or whatever, but you'll be able to play all three days.
@Octane Oh yeah, funny how no one mentioned that little fine print huh?
Demos people. Demos. Instead what we get is end user testing for the developers for free, and in this case, a selling point for PS+.
No. Just release a damn demo, get feedback like Square did with Octopath, boom, done. Don't time lock it, don't have it be always online like betas are because you want some free testing done, just make a demo and if you want feedback: ASK.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Well, it's not paid for if you don't want it to be... In any case, you would need PS+ to play online anyway. This beta is online only because it's a stress test and Capcom don't want people to get tired of the game before launch. That's why it's coming out at the start of of December. In any case, there's a chance of more betas or demos closer to launch.
