@damien33ad Sorry but I can't even put into words how little sense your argument makes. There's nothing objective about this, it's just a discussion about whether the game's story is any good or not.
Yeah, I'm having difficulty understanding @damien33ad too.
When you say forms of art do you mean the medium like books, song etc?
What do you mean by objective value of art, like a price tag on a painting or looking at the technical attributes used?
Art in the grand scheme of things is something that doesn't really matter as the purpose of it is to provoke wide ranging intangible responses within. Or are you saying art doesn't matter so it shouldn't be debated which seems at odds with you debating it?
I don't see how your example relates to Zelda though.
Well if the bowl of piss is a satire of modern art which has been accepted in a modern art gallery then as an artistic statement it has far more relevancy than any classic painting does which are more like antiques than art in todays world. The general gist of what you're saying seems to be just accept status of art as seen by others as is however those are things which are not permeant declarations. There are plenty of examples like van Gogh who's work was mocked in his lifetime but today is considered brilliant or more relevant to the topic at hand Wind Waker which was highly polarizing at the time is now a respected classic.
@damien33ad Well normal people use the context of the conversation for understanding rather than trying to read writing as dictionary definitions coding. You've claimed people's enjoyment of BOTW isn't to be judged subjectively only objectively, why? It's clearly a subjective issue.
@jump I think there might have been a misunderstanding, I'm pretty sure damien was referring to the actual number of number of people who dislike the story in BoTW, which is true isn't subjective. If he actually surveyed every single person who played the game to find out if they like the story or not, and over 50% of the people said no, then he could say as a fact most people dislike the story in BoTW. That being said, it still might not be true. You can't possibly survey enough people to find out that fact, and even if you see most comments or videos online saying they don't like the story that doesn't mean you can say with 100% certainty that most people dislike the story. People are more likely to voice negative opinions than positive or neutral ones anyway, so that could also skew the numbers.
Either way, this argument started because damien disagreed with Dogorilla, but Dogorilla was fine in what he said. BabyYoshi claimed that "I think we can all agree that the story in BoTW is bad", and Dogorilla said a lot of people would disagree with that, which is true even if you just look at this thread. Clearly we don't all agree that the story in BoTW is bad. Even if supposedly most people agreed that the story in BoTW is bad, some people disagree with that opinion, and therefore we don't all agree that the story is bad.
I'll help with this discussion: art can be both subjective and objective depending on context.
Sorry to jump in on a conversation I have no part in. I just find subjectivity vs objectivity to be a genuinely interesting concept when discussing video games.
BOTW’s story is pretty good for a Zelda game. Compared to the Witcher 3... not even close.
But it’s the gameplay and it’s world building that really sucked me in. I consider it the finest open world game of all time. Only HZD comes close in my opinion.
I'm fairly certain they're going to massively expand on the BotW lore in the upcoming sequel and prequel. It's clear Aonuma sees the potential of fleshing it out into a big arc.
Think of the prequel as The Golden Age saga from Berserk, the original game as the follow up and the sequel as the conclusion.
I wouldn't be surprised if they add elements to the story in the prequel which will be expanded upon in BotW2.
I can see BotW trilogy being a great animation, not a movie however.
@damien33ad I have a lingering feeling that AoC will do more for the story of BotW 2 than BotW. This seems to be likely because Aonuma himself approached the team with hopes to expand on the lore of his heavy hitter.
