It's official. I am down for the count.

My Wii can't read game discs anymore so I won't be online until I decide what to do. I really don't want to pay $75 for them to fix it and I'm worried I'll lose all my saved game data. For now, I draped a piece of white cloth over it and I had a moment of silence for the white machine that gave me countless hours of fun.

Ask me about the games I own :) I am looking to add friends on the Switch and Wii U.

@Matt96, its kinda suspicious that when you said you were gonna do some real life GE missions they happened to find Bin Laden. So the question is where were you yesterday? Lol.

One more thing, I'm just glad that you didn't post a picture up with you in the vents above the bathroom in the Facility.

It just stopped reading my game discs and I keep getting a black screen with an error message. I get this with any game disc i load into it. And how convenient it is for Nintendo to stop selling their cleaning disc?? :/ I can't play any Wii game discs period.
I bought it on launch day in 2006.

@Urbanhispanic What you can do is order a new or refurbished disk drive off the internet. Lifesavesdave and I had to do that a few months back. You can get some instructions from YouTube on how and what you need to change it out. I went with a new one and spent like 50$ but Dave fixed his for like 35$.

Edit: If your system is making a weird noise don't waste your money on a cleaner it won't help.

@UrbanHispanic
I had the same problem, so I bought a lens off of ebay for $7 and fixed it myself.
The reason for the problem is that Goldeneye is a dual layered disc, meaning that there is a semi-transparent silver film on the bottom and an opaque layer on the top and the Wii reads both. Once the laser in the disc reader is weak or dirty it cannot see the second (top layer)

This problem seems to be happening more frequently lately, I am wondering if dual layered discs are wearing out the laser.

Yeah I saw the replacement disk drives online earlier and thought it was interesting. How hard was it to actually open up the Wii and swap out the old one with the new one? Cuz I'm not a good handyman. On top of that, when it tried to read a game disc, it made loud clicking noises so that didn't sound good at all. Woe is me.

You're on to something because i went to Nintendo's website and saw the troubleshooting section. They had a section entirely to dual layered games that wear down the lens. Goldeneye 007 wasn't listed but they had Super Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid: Other M listed as titles known to cause problems. It doesn't help that when Brawl came out, I played the hell out of it.
I plan on calling them soon but still....I will tread forth slowly and carefully.

@Urban I had the same problem, only M:OM effed up my Wii. Only way to fix it cheaply is YouTube and buying a new disc drive. Its actually pretty easy. Strange thing is, SSBB worked fine. Play M:OM and it destroys my Wii.

Just one question: Does it make a click, click, click and removes the disc/shows error message? If its clicking/grunting its the disc drive.

Thanks for all the input guys..I'll look at my options on how to resurrect my beloved Wii. Perhaps I should turn off the burial music playing in the background.

Sometimes it shows the error message. Sometimes it doesn't. Either case, you hear the click click click churn click click churn then silence
