@skywake Blunty didn't know Fast NEO existed. Spawn Wave is a guy I talk to semi-regularly and he knows his stuff, and tells it how it is. Arlo is semi-infrequent and I enjoy that. Haedox just...slams repeatedly, and that goes into just about every other Tuber from then on.

Yea, I used to watch Blunty a few years ago when the PS4/Xbox One were coming out. But with his Switch stuff he seems a little under-informed and sometimes straight-up wrong, which is not something I respect. I feel that if you have a decently sized subscription base on You Tube or Twitch or whatever, you should put more effort into being complete with your information. He also tends to deviate dangerously close to the countless "angry" Youtubers who just make their money off of shouting at the camera and slamming on games and companies usually without hard facts.

I agree that the plan to slowly release games is smart, but do not think they planned this out properly. I think they should have had one more big hitter for launch (probably Arms or MK8 Deluxe), or should have put more effort into making 1,2-Switch a better game (Make the game a Warioware or Mario PArty type game, as the 28 minigames are not good enough alone).

@shaneoh you know it's one thing to say you have a dissenting opinion, and quite another to scandalize the man for the way he runs his channel. No one gives a sausage about how many terabytes you have to spare, and it's laughable that you couldn't spare a few megabytes for a YouTube show. I think you should learn how to express opinions constructively instead of being so darned petty.

@OptometristLime
Arlo seemed to take it well, I wouldn't say he was scandalised. I certainly wasn't making a comment on how the channel was run, just my distaste for the comments put forth in his videos. He can run it how he likes (as a yank, you should be able to appreciate that). It's also time I'd be wasting by watching the videos, not just bandwidth, if you choose to waste them on things you don't enjoy, that's up to you, but it seems like a waste to me. You may also want to read the mod's comment (page 2) about pettiness.

People can sure blow a few exaggerated comments out of proportion.

People can call this a soft launch all they like, I have never bought a console and had upwards of 15 games I want to buy in year one before.

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.

@shaneoh Of course Arlo's taking it well; he has to. He has an internet-based public image to uphold. If he succumbed to petty debates to defend his work, there would be no way it would end well that would make him look good. Heated arguments on the internet never make anyone look good. It makes some of the most popular Youtuber's look bad; just look how PBG handled the Zelda DLC debate. Arlo could either be handling it well, or it could be another hurtful comment that's being laid on his camel back, and either way, he's right to remain neutral.

At any rate, though, you're entitled to your opinion, and hurtful comments are par for the course for Youtubers.

Look man, when several people think you were being unnecessarily nasty in your criticism, maybe it's time to take a step back and realize you weren't being quite as friendly as you'd like to believe. Can you honestly say you would be comfortable with and think it was morally right to walk up to Arlo in real life and say that to his face?

Those comments about wasting your time were super unneeded, too. Keep that to yourself, and don't try to pass it off as criticism. That adds literally nothing to your comment to Arlo except another slap in the face.

In a nutshell, unless you genuinely have an idea of how someone could improve in their style of commentary or anything else, you're better off keeping your mouth shut, especially when you come across as super angsty.

It's not a soft launch. Arlo even acknowledges that in his video.

I think he's right that Nintendo plans on building the Switch's momentum over the course of the entire year and ending it with a big family friendly blockbuster that'll get more people on board, though.

While I'm not typically a fan of people who create little mascots to represent them in their videos, I like Arlo. His voice is easy to listen to, the puppet is well-designed, and he manages to be optimistic AND realistic in terms of his opinions and expectations. He doesn't strike me as one of these rude and narcissistic personalities that seem to thrive on youtube.

Not that he needs my validation, but I thought I'd chime in.

Good thing there's no debate to be had here for him to be drawn into. I dislike his opinion, that's factual.

@KirbyTheVampire
Never said I was being friendly, and yes, saying anything I've said face to face is perfectly acceptable, I'm not required to feed a person's ego. I stated I'm not fond of his opinion and that I won't watch his videos, I haven't tried to force my own opinions on him to try and make him change his, haven't belittled him as a person. I'm not going out of my way to downvote his videos as people are wont to do. I've stated my dislike honestly.

Who is passing it off as criticism? It's fact, I'm not going to waste my time watching something I don't enjoy.

You might want to get that checked, I'm feeling calm and content.

Please drop this moralising about shaneoh's comment to arlo. It's between the two of them. Why is this world turning into a place where everyone thinks they know how other people should behave?

Only Mods know that

I didn't say you needed to feed his ego or give him a pat on the back or anything like that, I just think you were a little unnecessarily harsh when stating your opinion. I won't keep bothering you about it, though. We just have differing opinions on what is and isn't acceptable to say to someone in this scenario, and it's not my business to shove mine down the throat of someone I've never met.

I am happy to defer to the moderation team, especially on topics of conduct and respect.

The guidelines were created to protect the community and its members against the kind of behaviors I was ashamed to have witnessed in this thread. It takes hours of creative preparation to put something worthwhile into this world, and just a few moments of disparagement to put someone down. Of course this is the internet thus we have to shield ourselves from negative inputs, but since Arlo's conduct has been more than courteous I want it to be known that his contributions are appreciated by myself and others.

You are what you eat from your head to your feet.

gcunit

@OptometristLime Well, hopefully to put this matter to bed... I don't think the Community Rules or spirit of the site have been breached by what shaneoh wrote. It's a sad place if we can't speak honestly and directly about our opinions. They weren't written in a manner designed to attack arlo in any way, I don't feel. In some ways it could be said that it's in fact more respectful to tell it straight to someone than it is to patronize them with 'constructive' feedback.

My apologies, @gcunit; I meant my comment more as an observation about the difference between how Youtuber's handle themselves in public forums vs. how they feel, but I did not mean to get caught up in shaneoh's comment.

Pretty much agree with all of this. I mean, the puppet thing is cheesy as hell, but a little earnest cheesiness is quite welcome among the sea of narcissistic, cynical screaming that permeates YouTube. I'd much rather watch some well-considered, well-structured musings for 10 minutes than have someone thrust an easily digestible, easily spreadable mantra down my throat. Even if it is by a goofy puppet.
