I agree. Though, it is Nintendo, and they have more creativity in their offices than most of us shmucks could ever hope to achieve, so who knows?

But I do think Smash is at a point much like MK, like you said. At this juncture, I think a port is entirely reasonable and from a business perspective much-preferred over waiting another 2 years to get an actual sequel, whatever that would look like. Smash on the Switch showing up at tournaments and conventions and the like while riding this sales high into late 2018 would be amazing, ESPECIALLY if we don't see Pokemon next holiday season.

I mean, looked at through a pessimist's eyes, Smash really hasn't changed all that much from its very first iteration to Wii U. Like most fighting games, it's simply added characters, items, and environmental caveats. But the core has remained the same. There hasn't been any kind of robust overhaul like Mario and Zelda have seen at various points, and arguably even Mario Kart has seen.

Personally, I'd rather just get a sequel later down the line. A port in the near future would push a whole bunch of my friends to finally get a Switch, though, so I can see the benefit of it happening in a way.

As far as I'm concerned, I couldn't be excited or justify the purchase of a ''deluxe'' port unless it included at least a new playable character I've always been extremely hyped about, such as Lyn or Isaac. And since those have a snowball's chance in hell of being featured, I don't see myself grabbing a Sm4sh port off a shelf.

I'm in the camp that wants a port of Smash 4, but only if that means we get additional characters and stages.
I'd love to see some indie characters in Smash like Shovel Knight, Shantae and Max from Mutant Mudds.
I'd also love to see some more 3rd party characters like Rayman.
But other than that sure, give us a port.

@Moanatunui This. Definitely this.
I've written a few times now about my hopes for a full sequel to Smash 4, but if they add in new stages and characters to the original game I'd be fine with a port.
One more thing I'd like to see in a port is a new single-player story mode like Subspace Emissary but with more varied level design. It just felt like something was missing from Smash 4 without that big single-player campaign.

Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.

I can agree with that. As long as there is enough additional content in the port I will be satisfied.

I think it's nice of Nintendo to port excellent Wii U games like Mario Kart 8, Pokémon Tekken DX, Bayonetta, and Bayonetta 2 on the Switch. They should continue to do this for games like Paper Mario Color Splash and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, which never got the recognition they deserved as they came out at a time when Wii U was in a decline already.

But the biggest one is Smash and I would definately double dip for an on-the-go Super Smash Bros. Deluxe that has all the content of the Wii U and 3DS versions including DLC. I'm surprised to see Nintendo passing up the opportunity to sell all the Smash amiibos once more - along with the game that holds up and stands strong, just like Mario Kart 8. I would be surprised if a remake is not released by May.

@Snaplocket Thank goodness. Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS was... well, technically great, but not inspired. I got bored with the game so quickly.

I'm excited to see a Super Smash Bros sequel developed solely for an HD platform. No more 3DS holding us back. I also think while the artstyle being lighter was more fitting as opposed to the grittiness of Melee and Brawl, the graphics just didn't scream to me what I wanted from an HD Smash. That's shallow, I know.

Well, either way, I think the development of a new Smash instead of a Smash 4 port means that we're not getting a Smash 4.5, or anything as bland as Smash 4. I think they have some ideas to really push the series forward, and I'm excited to see what happens.

It will be interesting to see what they can do when they're not tied to a 3DS version. Could lead to lots of very pretty effects, better AI, more environmental stuff, etc.

But I still think we're going to get a game that is pretty much the same just with more stuff. And that's not bad (it's kinda how fighter games go - new button combos to learn, new characters, but overall the same thing).

To some people it is bad. And thinking about it for the last 2 days or so - Yes, I'm one of that persons too. I recently posted here that I would be fine with a Smash 4.5. But no. Not anymore.
I want a totally different feel to it. Like any Smash sequel felt different to another. The vibe is really important to me. And honestly? I love Brawl more than 4 for that. The vibe of the trailer is very promising.
