It'd be a weird collection given that the best versions of each game are from such different sources. So you'd have no visual consistency if you wanted it to be a good collection.
It'd have to be
FF1: PSP
FF2: PSP
FF3: DS
FF4: DS or PSP
FF5: SNES or GBA
FF6: PS1
@Dezzy I actually suspect, if this were to happen, Square Enix would go down the Seiken Densetsu Collection path, and emulate the originals, so it would be NES and SNES only. I'd prefer that, TBH - the polygon revamps are not to my taste. That said, the PSP/mobile versions of FF1 and FF2 represent a significant polish.
I still can't believe they decided to remake IV's sequel and made it look exactly like the DS game... Long long after the DS game came out... On systems capable of way better graphics.
I wouldn't be very interested in Switch ports of those games.
Unless they were remastered from the ground up on Switch hardware, then maybe.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,241 games (as of March 23rd, 2024)

I never played it. Thought it was just the same as the SNES version?
I put the PS1 version ahead because it had a few cgi cutscenes. I really appreciated those because you can give so much life to things with 3D than you can with 2D.
@Dezzy It's got some improved graphics, a few extra quests and spers, a new big postgame dungeon and a better translation. Not to mention less glitches.
Compared to the PS1 version, it's considerably faster with basically no loading times.
All the new content is also in the mobile port, since it's based on that version.
I think Nintendo stands to make a killing from fans who want to continue to play the classic JRPG. The GBA titles were fantastic and I agree to using those versions because they are smoother and updated, but they also maintain the pixel graphics that made the games charming and artistic. I really hope Nintendo hears fans and brings FF I-VI and Chrono Trigger forward to the Switch. It would be amazing to have them all portable in one place.
Obviously wasn't suggesting Nintendo release something they don't own, but the original versions became classics and most of their re-releases have been huge successes allowing new generations to enjoy them. Why stop now? If you ask me one of the biggest mistakes Sony has made with the PS4 is not allowing people to purchase classic Sony games digitally and not bringing forward existing digital libraries. Nintendo did some amazing things with the 3ds online store giving players access to classic games that hadn't been easily available for a long time. Why stop now?
