I'm pretty sure Reggie himself said it's a home console first...and a handheld second. And Nintendo said the Switch isn't replacing the handheld line, meaning a 3DS successor will still happen...
What can you do with a traditional portable and home console that you can't do with a Switch and Smartphone? What niche would a new handheld fill that isn't already well and truly covered? And in any case, what else do you expect them to say about their portable line at this stage? They've got a huge 3DS install base, they're not going to talk about the Switch being a 3DS successor. But it is.
Lets be realistic here. If we get a portable system from Nintendo in the next few years other than this particular version of the Switch? It's not going to be a 4DS. What we might get is a Switch Mini.
Put it in your pocket. Or play some game for more than 3 hours.
I hate to break it to you but the official 3DS battery life is not much better than the Switch. The Switch officially does 2.5-6.5 hours. The 2DS does 3.5-5.5 hours, the New 3DS XL does 3.5-7 hours. And unlike the Switch the 3DS doesn't have a standardised charging plug....
I'm going to miss Miiverse. I love posting screenshots and commenting on others. Miiverse was also a great place to ask for help/suggestions, and answering questions. An achievement/trophy system would be nice on the Switch. Badges, stamps, something along those lines.
I'm not going to miss it really. I barely used it a couple of times to check what it was. But at the same time, I doubt I'm going to use the current social networks when I'm playing, none of my friends are interested in videogames.
Miiverse was a little Nintendo bubble that was only used by the people that own Nintendo systems.
This is what I loved about it. It was full of other like minded people who were really enjoying the games that they were playing.
I haven't used Miiverse extensively, but I have posted a lot of MK8 images there, often trying to include funny captions with them. All I ever got in response was mutual enjoyment in the form of 'Yeah's, and it inspired me to keep sharing funny or awesome screenshots. No judgement, just love.
I would have used it much more, but I won't miss the load time. That stuff should be near instantaneous.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I don't use social media (I like what little anonymity I have on the web) so I will miss Miiverse. Not really for the interaction but instead because I had a nice place I could post my thoughts or impressions or save a screenshot.

I will miss Miiverse. I am not very sociable either online or off, but I did enjoy using Miiverse.
My favorite part was how games integrated messages into certain spots, like in Nintendo Land, Wii Sports Club, or the Mario games. I did see quite a few naughty posts make it through the censors, though.
I also loved how you could take screenshots and share them. I usually didn't get many comments, but there was some enjoyment out of seeing strangers giving me Yeahs. If the Switch allows for taking screenshots, I'll probably be keeping them for myself now, instead of spamming them on Twitter or somewhere.
I stopped using it, but I still think it was great. They probably should've kept it.

I definitely will miss it, but not as much as Streetpass, which is one of their best (and least expensive!) innovations in the past 10 years.
I heartily agree. I've probably used the Streetpass mini-games more than any others, ever. They are simple, but fun. I love taking my 3DS out with me when walking my dogs. I don't get any hits any more, but the earned play coins can be used in the games, which extends their life.
Unfortunately the Switch appears to be just a bit too big to carry around in my pocket like the 3DS. Shame (not the Switch's size, but of Streetpass' demise).
I've spent over 600 hours on Miiverse, so once they announce the death of Miiverse, i'll rev up all of my drawings onto wherever. Miiverse kept THESE kangaroo drawing, so I didn't become rusty, but instead, have gotten better compared to my earlier doodles at the very least.
The future of Miiverse could belong to the hackers, because I was on today, and two accounts in the New Super Dank Memes community (New Super Luigi U is you wanted to know which one) were posting some odd things, not so much one of them, but the one that was posting the odd things, well, thy got banned, but as of right now, they were able to get away with THESE, which is still up while i'm typing https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAADAAB2V0fs-w8x3g
The other account was a hacked account of a verified user of a developer, they haven't really done anything naughty naughty, just have been mostly YEEahing posts in the community and some comments here and there.
....And in the heat of DAT, I drew THESE, lol
P.S. @TheLZdragon It's still a home console due to being a home away from home : P
I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!
I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!
I will not miss Miiverse. Never used it. I'm just glad that Nintendo is going forward with the social support, i think it will be more effective, simple and most of all faster than Miiverse loading time...
I'm a little surprised they didn't just add the ability to link FB/Twitter/IG to your profile and your Miiverse posts also go to all of those networks given the amount of work they put into creating Miiverse.
I'm assuming there will be a drawing app that will make people forget about Miiverse as that seems to be the big thing people will miss regarding that service.
