@SwitchForce For sure. Yes, the pre-ordering through Amazon works well. And Prime is awesome!
But I also heard rumors that this was also going to go the way of GCU and that to me will be a game killer and will stop most if not all Switch game buyers who use Prime like me. I hope I am wrong hearing this but this can't be good for Amazon or Game buyers alike for this to be heard.
@Tingle_The_Great It's no big deal, physical still ends up cheaper if you have Amazon Prime or still have Best Buy's GCU. Really though I much prefer digital over physical nowadays except for games where I just need the box.
Here's the thing Digital is tied to the account so if you close or loose the account your out of luck. But Physical you always have it when you want it and lose valuable MicroSD space as well-they could get it back but then again then might not either. And Collectors editions for the most part come Physical and that is why most of us Gamers or Collectors want them they never come around again. And standard release are still good to have Physical as I mentioned before the Biggest reason why. And yes, GCU/Prime is a big reason I will stick with them to the very end although GCU game more discounts on Collectors game but not on Amazon that was a drag and downer. But with GCU ending after my last membership date far from now I have to go with Prime and GameStop and suffer Collectors price without discounts from GCU.
I don't normally ever preorder, but might get the game.
Those who do so are for the price saving if they have a Prime or GCU to save on purchase or that some Pre-Order come with extra that after the release date you don't get those extras. That is the main reason those who make the Pre-Orders.

Maybe it's because I'm in the UK but I normally find the prices are than Amazon elsewhere. I've pre-ordered from them a few times before but I have always ended up cancelling it as 1-3 weeks before it's out I've seen much cheaper.
@SwitchForce I'll definitely get it physical if there's a Collector's Edition, but otherwise... it's Smash. I'm going to want it on my Switch at all times when out and about to play local multiplayer or just for casual 10 minute gameplay chunks, so digital is my go-to for games like this. Bigger single-player games like Xenoblade 2 and Ys VIII are better suited for physical.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
@SwitchForce Normally the preorder bonuses are plastic tack that keep the prices up. I'd rather get it £10 cheaper than get some 'exclusive preorder items!'
Like some others are pointing out, I'd be more apt to have this digital and play at any time without fumbling for a cartridge. I'd say my Switch games are 50/50 right now for format, and I KNOW I'm not going to sell SSBU as long as I still have the console. Might as well be digital, and hopefully Nintendo offers a pre-purchase gold coin bonus for it like they did with Aces

That is a choice one does but the majority are going for Physical version - Collectors or not.

Really plastic tack...this coming from someone whom miss out why preorders does better for saving but would pay the higher release prices. Yea do that but the rest whom have Prime and GCU will get the discounts that you will not get.

@Shizuelle Personally I've pre-ordered the physical version simply because of the pricing. I pre-ordered it from The Game Collection for £47.95, which I think is the most I've ever paid for a single game (inflation is clearly at work here). On the eShop it's £60. While it would be nice to have the convenience of having the game permanently installed on my Switch, I'm not paying an extra £12 for that privilege.
