My top ten... Probably a unrealistic list but here it is
10. Black Mage (Final Fantasy)
9. Ice Climbers.
8. Simon Belmont
7. Any Sonic character (an OC would be hilarious)
6. Mike Jones (Startropics, mainly because it’s a franchise Nintendo seems have forgotten about).
5. Pokémon Tranier (I would like it if they took a new take on him, maybe the gen 2 trainer)
4. Paper Mario (A weird one, but with 6 games under his belt there is more than enough for a unique character, and would be very different from Mario and Dr. Mario)
3. Shovel Knight
2. Banjo and Kazooie (This is the most unlikely one, but Microsoft has been the more friendly rival company to Nintendo, so I can dream).
1. Captian Toad(I feel like he could be a very unique character, he could be like Little Mac and have a poor air game but maybe have a special that makes him more playable than Mac. As for everything else, he could maybe use a minecart, throw turnips, use his pickaxe, there’s a lot of stuff he could do).

3) Snake
4) Another Animal Crossing character. Tom Nook would be my pick but he's in Villager's Final Smash so...Resetti?
5) Impa (Hyrule Warriors version)
6) Masked Lumen or any other Bayonetta rep

8) Crash Bandicoot / Rayman (or both. I think one of them will be in there for sure)
9) Bandana Dee
10) Another Metroid character. Not very familiar with the series but it really needs more than two Samuses.
My dream character would be Young Link from Majora's Mask where he could transform into Deku, Goron, and Zora Link but I highly doubt that'll happen.
Additionally, keep every first party character from Smash 4 except for, maybe, one Fire Emblem character.

@Kinoen I'm a traditionalist I did not want to go crazy thinking about obscure or new characters only because many of my favourites are going to be in the game for sure, I just answered the question and wrote my top 10 list.

Except for the first two, everything else is in random order. It's hard for me to pick favorites, and these are ones who I'd want in the game, and would probably be the most fitting
1. Spring Man
2. Ribbon Girl
3. Bomber Man (though if Snake got into the latest one, I'd be fine letting him stay as the sole Konami rep)
4. Crash Bandicoot (He's had some rough outings, but he was a pretty big deal, and made a big come back with the N. Sane Trilogy... plus, it would just be cool to have ANOTHER big mascot in Smash)

10) I think I'll leave this one empty because I can't make up my mind. If there is a chance to get Banjo I'd put him on par with Donkey Kong, otherwise there are many things I'd like but can't really decide. One of the best thing of Smash bros is that it is so full of different things.
I would like something from Skyrim to celebrate the first time a TES game has been released on a Nintendo console. It can be a dragon main character or a comic relief character as assist character. For example they could use M'aiq the liar as an assist character. I don't care if it is a main character, an assist character or just some easter egg but it would be very nice.
I want a dragon as one of the main characters but almost certainly we will have Charizard so it is not strictly necessary to have a dragon from Skyrim to scratch that itch.

2. Nia + Dromarch or Rex + Pyra/Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the former I like better, the latter is more likely)
3. Shantae
4. Revali (Zelda Breath of the Wild; would be nice for him to be able to battle it out with Link)
5. King Boo (Mario games)
6. Rabbid Mario (Mario&Rabbids) and Cappy Mario (Mario Odyssey) instead of normal Mario
7. Monster Hunter (Monster Hunter, with a Felyne sidekick of course!)
8. Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice (Ace Attorney)
9. Piper/Dorothy/Rusty (Steamworld Dig/Heist)
10. Wilson (Don't Starve)
I would have added the Inkling, but they are already confirmed.
I would also like to see someone from the Arms series, but I take that somehow as a given.
Also I would assume that there will be a new Fire Emblem character from the upcoming game.
Though I like Robin and Corrin, I would expect them to be kicked off the roster for that new character.
I would like especially Bayonetta to remain, same as Bowser Junior, Link and Zelda in Breath of the Wild forms, Toon Link (or as above mentioned swapped out with Child Link), Wario.
Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.
Bear with me, we're going to get into "sliver of a chance" territory with some of these.
1) Papyrus (Undertale) - Yeah, I'm gonna be that guy.
2) Professor Layton (Professor Layton) - I think he'd be a remarkably unique addition, and I think his series is important enough (specifically within the handheld scene) to warrant his inclusion.
3) Jimmy T. (WarioWare) - WarioWare is one of my all-time favorite series, and I'd be ecstatic for anyone from it to be included. Jimmy would be my first choice though. Can you IMAGINE those taunts??
4) Ridley (Metroid) - Again, I'm gonna be that guy.
5) Paper Mario (Paper Mario) - This has always seemed like the most obvious inclusion in the world to me; I'm surprised he's never been in the Smash roster. The moveset options are robust, to say the least.
6) King K. Rool (Donkey Kong Country). The fight against him at the end of Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of my all-time favorite boss battles. If they ever include him in Smash, I'll definitely opt for the Kaptain K. Rool outfit every time, so long as it's an option.
7) Muddy Mole (Mole Mania). This is such a fantastic game, and I'm sad it never received any kind of follow-up. If Muddy were to get a chance to shine in Smash, though, all would be forgiven.
8) Jeff (EarthBound). I always felt like his moveset could be a blast, given all of the gadgets he has at his disposal. For his Up-B, he could even get a lift back onstage from Bubble Monkey!
9) Chibi-Robo (Chibi-Robo). I always had a soft spot for this little guy.
10) Crono (Chrono Trigger). I actually didn't play Chrono Trigger until about two years ago, but I must say, it's held up incredibly well. Crono would be an excellent candidate for Smash, and undoubtedly one of the third-party characters that would get the biggest reaction from me.
Hmmm here goes. Most of these are pretty typical but that's just because they'd be awesome. Also I'm picking realistic options (no Geno for instance, I just don't see it happening).
1. Isaac/Felix from Golden Sun.
2. King K. Rool from DK...because we need more than just the Kongs.
3. Rex & Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (I'm going to cheat here and just add that I'd like Tora and Poppi as well, but I'm not holding my breath.
4. Urbosa from BotW
5. Protoman - Megaman Series
6. Twintelle from Arms
7. Dark Samus just because I'm assuming she'll be in Prime 4.
8. Travis Touchdown from No more Heroes. Not that farfetched.
9. Crash Bandicoot from...well, himself. It would have been a fever dream a few days ago but now it's possible.
10. THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE NINTENDO PLEASE Waluigi. Just please let us play him.

Oh sure It often looks to me like Microsoft are trying to position themselves as the ideal 'second console' for Nintendo owners - they're often full of praise for Nintendo, particularly when it comes to things like cross-network play etc (with things like the Minecraft 'Better Together' update bringing the two networks closer together - and leaving Sony behind) ..I'm sure they'd love a gaming future where Nintendo and themselves could co-exist in a market - and cut Sony out of the loop altogether in the process!
It's obviously little more than a pipe-dream at this stage, but I could possibly see Microsoft bringing Rare Replay to Switch, for example - building another bridge and further strengthening that bond...and, who knows, maybe even allowing some of the old Rare characters (so heavily linked to Nintendo in peoples' minds) to appear in Smash?
Of course, I could be reading WAY too much in to this whole thing! ..but, at the same time, I could kind of see how it could work (and have benefits for both) so I do think there's a chance

Gen 7) Golisopod (Gotta represent your boy Guzma)
Gen 8) A starter Pokemon's final evolution
I don't mean to hate on Gens 2 and 5. I just genuinely believe they would be the generations that are skipped.

Generation 8 is a more interesting case. It's entirely possible they can tease gen 8 Pokemon by featuring it in Smash. Question is, does Pokemon Company have the forward thinking to do it?
