A way to connect/store cartridges in the dock so that they are always playable. This could also take the form of an "active" multi-cartridge case that plugs into the dock.

Honestly, all I really want is 1080p screen, better battery, and more on board storage for the Switch itself. The bezel-less screen is an amazing idea, though. And the OLED assuming it's cheap enough.

Whatever power is required to get parity between the base PS4/Xbox One versions, so that third-parties lose their guns and have to commit to the Switch without making sloppy work. FE:W and Fate/Extella are good examples, FE:W having sloppy textures and Fate/Extella being 720P at max, even when docked.

The Switch as is, is a great machine, but I still lament the sacrifice of power for portability, even if I realize it's better off for it right now, it will play parts against it in the long run.

The big third parties talk about the lack of power as a justification for not porting to Switch or doing a poor/lazy job but it's only a part of the reason why they don't port games. It's just a convenient and easily explained reason.

It's quicker and easier to say "we'd love it on Switch but it's just not powerful enough to run it" than to say "we'd love it on Switch and we could make it work technically but we've run the figures and we don't think the install base is big enough to justify the costs of porting, we'd have 5% less margin if we went with the 16 gb card,, Nintendo forces us buy game cards in 50,000 increments and won't tip any money into the advertising kitty like Sony have done so..." or "it'd work on Switch no problems but our focus group studies suggest that the average Switch owner is a little different to a PS4 owner and is 50% less likely to buy our game so it's a secondary or tertiary priority".

If the Switch were demonstrably more powerful the first line excuses would change but they'd still be there.

@StuTwo Well, then that's simply the nature of the Switch/third-party mismatch, is it not? Nintendo chose to make the Switch the way they did, they're obviously finding success with it, but it also mismatches in some cases.

@UmniKnight Of course. But the point I really wanted to make is that 3rd party support is about more than just providing them with a powerful format and it's about more than just providing them with a good suite of development tools. It's also about more than just providing them with those things and a large install base.

To win around 3rd party publishers they need to do quite a few things behind the scenes from the marketing and sales sides of the business. If they do those things correctly and build up the right relationships then the big 3rd party games will appear on Switch whether it's 'powerful enough' or not. The developers will find a way and find compromises that they're willing to take in the experience.

If they don't get the other things right behind the scenes then it won't matter how powerful the 'Switch 2' is. It could be twice as powerful as the XBox One X it would still be left out of the conversation with 3rd parties.

@StuTwo Sounds like it'll either A. take a really long time to get it right B. not get it right at all or, which has arguably already happened C. it takes a different form (indies).

Will we ever see third-parties put their backs into Switch games? Maybe not, hopefully we will.

Yes I totally agree...though (to be fair) we must simultaneously criticize PS4 and XBox for their unweildy size and shape (requiring even bigger pockets than Switch when traveling), poor battery performance, the need to carry along an accessory screen to play in portable mode, and the lack of touch support. I think once MS & Sony have addressed these issues (which should be no more difficult than the Switch offering performance parity), then we should be able to compare on more level ground.

On the other hand, now that I think about it, if performance parity was all I was interested in, then shouldn't I have just bought a PS4 or XBox in the first place?
