So Nintendo's officially confirmed there's no new hardware this fiscal year (i.e. the earliest something could arrive is April 2024). Seems like we'll get a bunch of unannounced games announced sometime after TotK releases then.
@Grumblevolcano It’s very interesting wording Nintendo used. I don’t recall whether this is something they usually state in their reports but it does make it sound like they are gearing up for something next year.

There is no point in Nintendo Selects if the games still sell. Mario Kart 8 still sells. Breath Of The Wild still sells. Notice how games that were slowing down sales wise in the past or just weren’t selling that great at all were Selects titles. Mario Galaxy was slowing down. Donkey Kong games generally don’t sell incredibly well. And I don’t even need to explain why so many Wii U games were selects titles. Failed console, failed game sales, simple. The switch wasn’t a failure, and it’s games still sell. It’s not in Nintendo best interest money wise to slash prices on games that sell well to this day.
Wait, why do we need a signature? Eh, I don’t know. Here’s your signature.
125 million sold, with another 15 projected for this FY. Which means 140 million when Switch 2 releases in spring 2024.
Figure Switch will sell another 7 million the first year of Switch 2, then another 3 million in the second year, and then it'll retire at a grand total of 150 million sold.
Not quite enough to break the all time record, but gosh darn close. Closer than any other console or handheld has ever come.

@Grumblevolcano@TeaCatherine To be honest, I’m only going by what I read through second hand sources online as I can’t find the actual quote in the final reports anywhere that Nintendo aren’t planning to release any new hardware this financial year.

I think my complaint so far of the recent fiscal announcement is how Nintendo has kept blaming supply issues. Which isn't completely wrong, the chip shortage certainly affected a lot of industries. But I think it's just more a demand issue right now. The Switch is starting to show its age and a lot of AAA 3rd parties have already shifted to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
That being said, I'm not entirely pessimistic about the future. Switch is still doing decent enough to keep going through the rest of the year and I expect a price cut to boost demand a bit during the holiday seasons. As for Switch 2, It's pretty clear that 2024 is when it's coming out. I hope that Nintendo markets their next console aggressively and has a killer app at launch
@Aeon7
They sold 17 million going into Year 7. That's pretty freaking incredible.
For contrast, PS4 sold 20 million in its best year. And yet Switch, going into its 7th year, without any price cut, with all this talk of slowing sales, still managed 17 million.
Like... that's absolutely insane. And they're shooting for another 15 million this year lol? If they pull that off, that'll mean they still sold more going into their 8th year than Wii U sold its entire lifespan.
Kinds puts things into perspective.

Should be interesting to see how far the Switch goes in software sales past the 1B mark.
PS4 was at 1.5B a couple years ago.

@Magician
Probably will end at 1.25B, which absolutely blows away all past Nintendo consoles, which have never crossed the 1 billion mark until now.
Goes to show 3rd party games sell like crazy on Switch. You can't cross 1B software without massive 3rd party sales. Switch is indeed the Nintendo console that has broken the trend for 3rd party.

@Grumblevolcano I want to say I agree but this is Nintendo. I can just as easily see them going back to LCD and then launch a more expensive OLED model later. Unless they have 2 versions at launch.

Yeah I agree, I can easily see them have the base Switch 2 go back to LCD with the intent of launching a more expensive OLED model a couple years down the line because they know damn well people will double dip.
The OLED model is to Switch what the XL model was to the DS/3DS.
Anyways, Tears of the Kingdom HYPE. I can't wait. Consensus seems to be that they took BotW and improved upon it in every conceivable way, making the former look more like a tech demo.
