Trying to keep up with Switch releases is like one of those nightmares where you're just constantly running away from a relentless pursuer. Every time you think you're getting caught up with the games you want... BAM! Another door opens and a torrent of unmissables floods your safe room. It's a dream and nightmare all rolled into one.
I generally managed to catch up on 1st party stuff until this year. The digital release dates work better (e.g. Metroid Prime Remastered in February, Pikmin 1+2 in June) but I refuse to purchase a Switch game digitally when I know there's a physical version incoming.
While I am going to get Baten Kaitos Collection because I've been hoping for it for years, that's about it for me. Even canceling my normal BF haul. I'm just going to work on what I have this year and then pick up buying again next year.

Seems like the Switch port of Red Dead Redemption is immaculate. Native 1080p docked, 720p handheld (no dynamic drops), flawless 30fps and good frame pacing. Expansion included, reasonable file size, fast load times.
@JaxonH yep, all great stuff. I already bought it prior to seeing the switch up review. Haven't played it yet, but I fully trust their opinion, so I have no doubt it'll be great when I fire it up tonight
Is Red Dead Redemption worth the money to saomeone who hasn't played it? I've seen a lot of hate about the price tag. To me, it seems standard to sell a game at that price to a new audience and then for it to become gradually cheaper like everywhere else. But unfortunately, the most vocal crowd are the ones who have already played it and think it's not worth $50 for them to buy it AGAIN (hahaha crazy I know!) It's old to them and they shouldn't have to spend that money on re-purchasing it. But that just leads me to wonder if the game isn't a classic. I'm not into GTA myself, but this looks much more interesting. Dunno.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK I suppose that depends on how much you enjoy the genre. I would argue that RDR is the best series of cowboy games. Experiencing the world of early to late 1800s midwest Murica. It's the Dollars trilogy only in video game form.
@GrailUK Just be aware that it plays just like a GTA game. It has good writing and voicework, and nice scenery, but if you're tired of the GTA model then it might feel a bit too similar.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@GrailUK GTA is almost like a parody compared to RDR. GTA is more lighthearted.
At least it looks like that to me. I own both RDR games, but I played an hour of each so count me in the new players gang
If the whole game is on the cartridge, I will be glad to give them 50$!

Well, you ride a horse in that game, not that Horse guy from Everybody 1-2-Switch. 😆
Moreover you can unlock Unicorn in the game. 🦄

The price criticism stems mainly from PS gamers. And I can understand. The PS4 is capable of a remastered version. But I think the criticisms fall apart for the Switch version. The best looking and performing Switch games are always straight ports of 7th gen AAA. It looks as good as it possibly can on Switch, it's native 1080 without dynamic drops, flawless 30 with perfect pacing, load times are faster than PS4 version and 3x faster than the 7th gen version, it has a reasonable file size, expansion included and physical has it all on cart.
We've seen what happens when 7th gen games get Remastered for Switch, like Alan Wake Remastered. 480p with 20fps drops, a downright horrible experience. Despite the 360 version looking twice as good as the remastered Switch version with better resolution and performance.
So for Switch specifically, this is the ideal port. For PS.... sure, they could have done more with it.
Ppl always say, "if they'd have released a quality port with high res and solid framerate with fast load times and all on cart I'd gladly pay more", but then when we get that, suddenly it's a mass case of amnesia.
Still, in the end it always comes down to how each individual values something. But personally, I'll always pay more for high quality on Switch, especially given how many subpar releases there are.
