Topic: The Nintendo Switch Thread

Given how enthusiastic I've been about new hardware it shouldn't surprise anyone to hear me say that they don't really need to do much at all to get me to buy new hardware. My Switch is worn enough at this point that I could comfortably justify picking up an OLED right now. So the bar they need to clear with the new hardware would be super low, assuming I don't cave and pick up an OLED

If it has full backwards compatibility, a better screen than the OG Switch and significantly more storage? I mean that's almost enough right there. Throw in at least one game that's ether exclusive for the new hardware or runs significantly better? I'm buying. That's it right there. Sold

Anything beyond that? New 3D Mario, VRR, HDR, 4K, enhancements for existing titles, expanded NSO. Anything. That's all just icing on the cake. Icing I am fairly confident we'll get in some shape or form sure. But icing it still is. Doesn't need to do any of that for me to be there on day 1

I'm in the same situation where my original Switch is getting rusty and I'd love almost anything new with back compatibility. I've never bought a console day 1 before but I likely will with Switch 2.

As a side note I finally decided I'd done enough of the exploring, building up gear, getting shrines etc that I should probably just finish TotK. I probably should've tackled it a bit earlier because I ended up flattening Gannon fairly easily.... probably would've been more of a challenge several hearts and significantly less resources earlier

I saw a Nintendo UK ad on my Youtube homepage which says:

"Explore Over 50 Tracks, From New Additions to Classics Like Koopa Cape, Athens Dash & More"

It's only talking about the Booster Course Pass but 48 is less than 50. Did Nintendo UK perhaps accidentally leak that extra tracks are coming after wave 6?

On a related topic, I've been getting far more Nintendo ads on places like YouTube the last few weeks than I ever have before including just basic 'buy a Switch' ads as opposed to game-specific ones. I wonder if they're pushing extra hard to sell as many Switches as they can before Switch 2 is announced.

@Grumblevolcano as i expected, Nintendo will do a second Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

@Grumblevolcano Yeah, it's probably just a mistake on their part. Honestly, I'm not expecting any more courses after wave 6. They'll probably work on the next game in the series if the "Switch 2 in 2024" rumor turns out to be true.

@MarioLover92 Agree with you about the BCP ending after wave 6. The more courses they add to 8 Deluxe, the harder it becomes for the next installment to eclipse it (it also makes a MK ultimate with all the series' courses more redundant). And sooner or later, Nintendo will start running out of "good" courses to add, as well as ones remade in Tour (and thus easier to pass over).

@chapuH @MarioLover92 I think retro tracks would be complicated for a new game at this point. Like MK8 Deluxe already has over half the MKWii nitro tracks and there's a high chance wave 6 has Wii Rainbow Road (they ended wave 3 with a Rainbow Road and Wii is the only one in Tour now that's not in MK8 Deluxe). My best attempt at a varied retro track list with nothing that was a retro track in MK8 Deluxe is something like:

It doesn't have that "Wow, look at all these fan favourites!" factor that the DS to 8 retro tracks had.

@chapuH Yeah... agreed for sure. If I were the head of Nintendo, I'd just start work on the next Mario Kart game sometime after wave 6 releases. We gotta move forward at some point after all, lol.
