Not confirmed for consoles yet, but I assume we'll see this on Switch sometime next year.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,555 games (as of March 31st, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

Seems Nintendo delisted The Last Hope (the bad TLoU clone) from the eshop.

@Grumblevolcano I was actually morbidly curious in grabbing it myself purely to see how bad it was but it's probably for the best that it got struck down.

@Grumblevolcano How often does that happen? I mean there's a load of rubbish on there, why bother going after that one and not all the ones with hentai in the name? It's technically not breaking any rules, right?

Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid
Back burner: Hollow Knight, Undertale

Grumblevolcano

@TeaCatherine It's likely Sony forced Nintendo to take it down, a case of copyright protection. Mario clones where the main character looks like Mario have ended up on Playstation before and Nintendo's forced Sony to take it down. This time, it was Ellie from TLoU ending up in The Last Hope.

Ah, right. I just didn't think it would be close enough to shut down on those grounds.

Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid

Yo!

Batsugun is one of the sickest video games I have ever had the pleasure of playing!

Holy macaroni, if ya know, ya know!

Today, the most popular genre of video games is the shooter. Be it first or third person, doesn't really matter. But shooters are by far the most popular.

Interestingly enough, the most popular genre of video game about 3 decades ago was also the shooter genre. Except back then, the shooter genre consisted of driving a ship around and shooting enemies. We now refer to them as the "shoot-em-up" genre (or shmup for short- SHoot eM UP ) so as to not cause confusion with the modern shooter genre.

Toaplan was, by far, the best there ever was when it came to shooters, imo. This was before the bullet hell sub-genre had even hit the scene. Back then there were fewer enemies and projectiles moved slower. Over time, that gradually evolved with ever so slightly more enemies, slightly faster bullets and more of them, with tiny hitboxes to avoid the clusters of bullets.

One of Toaplan's last games they made was Batsugun. And it is widely regarded as the first shooter that was a proto-bullet hell. It's not anywhere near as crazy as the Cave bullet hell shooters that would follow in years to come, but it bridged the gap. Faster bullets, more enemies, a smaller hitbox for your ship so you can weave in and out of bullet patterns, etc. BATSUGUN is regarded by many as the first bullet hell, or at least, the first proto-bullet hell.

Once Toaplan shut down, a lot of their staff formed a new studio called CAVE, and everyone knows CAVE. They're synonymous with bullet hell shooters and probably more popular than Toaplan today, but that's because of changing trends and preferences. In truth, CAVE and Toaplan are one and the same as far as I'm concerned. They're the best there ever was.

The majority of the most famous bullet hells... They're CAVE. DoDonPachi, ESP ra.de. Psi, ProGear (with Capcom, featured in Capcom Arcade Collection volume 1 btw), Espgaluda, Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Ikai Katana, Dangun Feveron, etc.

Personally, I've always had a soft spot for the older Toaplan shooters vs the more modern CAVE danmakus (bullet hells). I love them both, don't get me wrong. But Toaplan has always been my preference. And after playing Batsugun for the first time today on Switch, I am blown away.

I think my favorite Toaplan shooter is now Batsugun, and my favorite CAVE shooter is ProGear. Both of which are available on Switch. Haven't seen Batsugun on the NA eShop yet, but the JP physical release arrived in the mail today. It's pure 🔥 🔥 🔥

The 6 games on top are CAVE shooters, while the 3 games on bottom are Toaplan shooters.

CAVE (Top Row)

  • Deathsmiles I & II
  • Mushihimesama
  • DoDonPachi Resurrection

CAVE (Middle Row)

  • Espgaluda II
  • Akai Katana Shin
  • ESP ra.de. Psi

TOAPLAN (Bottom Row)

  • Tiger Heli
  • Fire Shark
  • Batsugun

oh my god this is absolutely genius: some mad lads have made a game called (and I am not joking) 'Yeah! You Want "Those Games", Right? So Here You Go! Now, Let's See You Clear Them!' that's essentially a minigame compilation of all those fake games you see in crappy mobile game ads except now they're more fleshed out.

If the price point is good then I might genuinely grab this; this is exactly the level of intentional stupidity and insane creativity that I can get behind XD

@JaxonH

All that's left (for me) are the need for Guwange and Dangun Feveron on Switch and I'll be content.

Although I thought I heard DoDonPachi (97) was next on deck from M2?

It's going to be very interesting to see how Nintendo approaches the next few months. August and September are a lot emptier than usual but October and November are insanely packed.

I'm kind of wondering what's going on with NSO in general to be honest: we're halfway through the month and we still haven't gotten a single game across ANY of the apps. Usually we'd have something like the NES/SNES/GB lineup and/or a GBA/N64 game if previous trends are to go by but we haven't had anything since the last batch of Mega Drive games on June 28th.

and yes I am getting quite antsy because I WANT TO PLAY AMAZING MIRROR SOONER RATHER THAN LATER GODDAMNIT

It's officially the last week of July and we still haven't gotten a single update for NSO outside of arguably MK8D Wave 5.

I'm losing my mind guys.

@Professor_Plumber The only presence NSO had in the June Direct was also wave 5 of the Booster Course Pass. At the time I figured it made sense given there's quite a lot of already announced NSO games to release:

Base NSO

  • Oracle of Ages
  • Oracle of Seasons
  • Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (Japan)
  • Pokemon Trading Card Game

Expansion Pack

  • Mario Party 3
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • 1080 Snowboarding
  • Excitebike 64
  • Harvest Moon 64 (Japan)
  • Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
  • F-Zero Maximum Velocity
  • Golden Sun

Yea im still patiently waiting for the oracle games to drop. I'll be playing both back to back when they do. I'm guessing September.

Something's been on my mind in regards to a decision made yesterday that could be potentially disastrous for those who play games with social media in mind.

So you know how Twitter got renamed to....'X' (yes literally the letter X) earlier today? I wonder if that'll affect sharing gameplay clips/screenshots through systems like the Switch or even the other consoles like PS or Xbox since it'll, presumably, get a new domain name at some point. I doubt it considering how those services are more API-based rather than tying directly into the name of the sites they use, but considering how Twitter embed links seem to already be breaking across sites as a result of this change, it does have me a bit antsy to say the least 🤔
