Anyone who tries to argue that Nintendo's next hardware will be digital only is trying to create drama. I don't think it's very likely. There's no reason for it and I think the backlash to such a move would be far greater than any minor benefit they might get out of it.

There is no way Nintendo will offer a handheld without physical cartridges. If we were talking about a strictly home console then I could maybe, maybe, see them making a digital only variant, but no way they are going to do this with a hybrid console.
They still make a ton of sales with physical sales and also collector's editions, so alienating such a big part of their audience sounds like a very bad move. In addition, if you make the next gen console digital only, you prevent Switch owners with physical cartridges from playing in the next gen console, assuming backwards compatibility, which seems like a given.
Ninty will be the last of one to go digital only if they ever do. Nintendo keeps in mind family gaming first so those great aunts who knows nothing about games needs to go to the shops to buy a game for her nephew’s bday rather than online and that type of stuff.
Why would dlc for this game be announced so soon? The base game is selling gangbusters. Nintendo should ride this wave of mass success and wait until much later for a DLC announcement, maybe until after Pikmin 4 to help fill that void
I mean, they announced the BotW season pass before the game even launched. Same for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3. Same for Fire Emblem Three Hopes and Engage.
I'm actually kinda surprised they haven't announced the TotK season pass yet. We know it's coming. And I bet it uses the abilities in insane ways for a series of Trials, and it'll add Master Mode I'm sure. Travel Medallion and Heros Footsteps are in the base game though, so they'll probably include some other QoL features, and one final content pack at the end.

I can see them skipping DLC on Kingdom Sad myself, they will want a new Zelda for the next console sooner rather than later and DLC would slow that down.
@JaxonH I'm guessing they thought it would be a hard sell with the new $70 asking price for the base game. Give people a couple of months with the game and they might be willing to shell out a bit more...
@jump To be fair, we kinda are in the twillight years of the Switch. Splatoon 3 DLC support is probably already ending kinda late (when they end splatfests, the console will be almost 8 years old). If they do DLC and all came out this very year then maybe? But I wouldn't be surprised if they wait for the next console and do a definitive version of ToTK with better graphical performance and some extra content. Even if the console is backwards compatible, I could see them doing that.
@TheBigBlue I wasn't meaning TotK DLC, I was meaning stuff like a Side Order trailer, a MK8 Deluxe wave 5 trailer or a release date for Baten Kaitos 1+2.
I don't think TotK will get DLC anyway as most Nintendo DLC is announced pre-launch.
@Grumblevolcano I think Mario kart wave 5 would be a summer drop similar to wave 2, and 6 would be around October/November like wave 4 was. The times are all similar so far. Side order and Baten Kaitos are tougher to predict. I don’t feel Side Order will be shoved out of the oven as fast as the Fire Emblem and Xenoblade dlcs, they could be summer drops to fill in the schedule, that’s all I can think of
My early TotK progress has got rather waylaid by the fact Fortnite have been running a little Star Wars 'season' type thing. Don't normally pay any attention to the missions in Fortnite, but me and my kid realised that we'd accrued enough v-bucks through free play to be able to unlock a few Star Wars outfits, including Darth Maul as the ultimate goal.
So I've been working on fulfilling those quests, but today have reached the Darth Maul goal line, so now I can get back to Hyrule stress-free (Animal Crossing backlog notwithstanding).
Been feeling quite perverse playing a f2p game the same week as the biggest Zelda ever releases.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
So I came to a realization (that in hindsight is hilariously obvious) that when I finally get a Switch 2 or whatever it ends up being, Switch is gonna be the new 3DS to me.
Which for me means it will be an extra handheld system to occasionally play in (often) short sessions for a long period of time for the next gen. There's too many games I want it, too much backlog for me to stop playing it even a year or two after Switch 2 comes out.
@Grumblevolcano
I suspect TotK expansion could be announced when Switch 2 is revealed, and set to launch with Switch 2. It's not a full game, but it's the next best thing, and alongside a nice big 3D Mario could help push Switch 2.
