It's one of the highest rated games of all time. And while the rest of the industry tends to ignore other Nintendo stuff, they loooooooove Zelda games. Especially these open air ones.
Starfield would have to be unprecedentedly amazing to impress more than TotK. I don't think BGS has it in them, personally. And there won't really be anything else that's sufficiently mainstream and ambitious to challenge Zelda.
@JaxonH I guess the thing is that I'm already extremely satisfied with my Switch OLED right now, so it's going to take me a lot to convince me to transition anyway.
If it's $400 or less, backwards-compatible, has an OLED screen, and either boosts the performance of my older games or comes with a killer exclusive at launch, I'll probably buy in day one. Otherwise, depending on what I'm dissatisfied with, I'll wait and see how things pan out.
TotK being exclusive would have done it, but it's not. It's way too soon for a new Xenoblade or SMT VI. I could definitely see it launching with an open world Mario platformer, though. That would be a tough one to wait on!
I could absolutely adore starfield but it doesn't have that cache zelda has for me. That'll be its biggest hurdle for most I'd say. New IP vs one of the longest running IPs.
@Professor_Plumber I mean, I like Bethesda games. I upgraded my video card for Starfield recently, and built my last two computers around Fallout 4 (disappointing) and Skyrim (amazing). But they're not in the habit of creating masterpieces.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah One thing to note is that the OLED model launched 4 years into the system's lifespan. If they wait 4 years into Switch 2's lifespan to release an OLED version, I'd have a VERY hard time waiting lol
@Professor_Plumber just my opinion of course but the best 3d Fallout game I ever played was actually built by Obsidian. Out of all the developers Xbox grabbed up that is the one that stung the most. Fallout New Vegas was just great and of course Outer Worlds is a fantastic game.
Starfield has potential but I have almost zero faith they can execute a good launch. Although Skyrim in space sounds pretty enticing
All I want is the next Elder Scrolls game. Granted I am gonna overhaul my whole PC for it so perhaps I should wait. That being said TotK is gonna keep me for a long while.

I'm a Dream Fighter. Perfume is Love, Perfume is Life.
After Redfall, I get the feeling Starfield will launch in a state comparable to Fallout 76. The smaller XGS games (e.g. Psychonauts 2, Hi-Fi Rush) and the ports/remasters (e.g. Goldeneye, AoE 2) seem to launch in a good state but the bigger ones (e.g. Halo Infinite, Redfall) seem to be in a bad state. FH5 so far is the only somewhat recent exception.
So my revised GotY nominee predictions for the Game Awards will be:
TotK
FFXVI
FFVII Rebirth
Spider-Man 2
TLoU Factions 2 (TLoU and TLoU 2 were nominated for and won so many awards)
Armored Core VI (it's a FromSoftware game)
Silksong isn't on this list given it doesn't have a release window, when it releases I do think it'll be nominated for GotY in the year that it is eligible for.
@Grumblevolcano There's almost no chance an action-mecha title like Armored Core is getting nominated. It may be From Software, but they're primarily praised for the Souls games.
Also sincerely doubt FFVII Remake is coming this year.
@JONOFTHEJONS I'll never not be sour that a mainline DOA game never hit the Switch. A Last Round port would have been perfect.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@JONOFTHEJONS Dead or Alive 2 is my favorite but would gladly take 3 or Soul Caliber far as 3d fighters go. Never understood the point in the volleyball games though lol
@old-dad You're desperately horny, but stuck on an island with no access to real women, the internet, or any sort of printed material, and your imagination is terrible, so the only way to relieve your frustration is to play a janky mini-game collection where you voyeuristically ogle cartoon women in beachwear?

@Professor_Plumber The mainline DoA games have always had a bit of cheesecake in them, but they're solid fighters. Much more reliant on reading and countering your opponent's movements than crazy combos, so although I'm not a fighting game fan AT ALL, I do actually enjoy them compared to something like Street Fighter.

Oh wow, MK8 Deluxe DLC wave 5 could even be announced in May. The news section on the Switch started covering the wave 4 tracks and when wave 4 was announced, only 3 of the wave 3 tracks had been covered (Tour London Loop, GBA Boo Lake, Tour Berlin Byways).
@Ralizah@Professor_Plumber
Oh man Marvel Vs Capcom on the Saturn is just perfection to me. Easy enough to button mash for a bit but incredible depth to be found in the combos. Miss those games too ðŸ˜
