I'm with @JaxonH in terms of the timeline here. I think late 2023 full reveal and probably some more concrete leaks before we get to that point. Then probably a price drop to the existing Switch to have them ride out the holiday period without much impact to sales. Followed by an early 2024 product release

But I think what we'll see is nothing but silence during the peak of TotK's sales window. Because I would think Nintendo is more concerned about that audience waiting than they are the people who'd be buying over Christmas. Someone picking up a Switch, probably again, for TotK? Make those people wait they probably move on to something else.

The holiday sales are different kinds of purchases. Those sales would be people buying gifts, mostly parents buying for kids. Those purchases won't be impacted anywhere near as much by the announcement of new hardware. They would, however, be impacted by something looking like a "good deal". So price cuts, holiday bundles, that sort of thing

This past weekend was a dandy. Played through Ruiner, which is a really good twin-stick action game. I also put a couple hours into Wreckfest, which I would put up there right next to Grid as one of the best simulation / arcade racers on the platform, the Switch port is solid. And...I've tried but...I just can't, the original release of Resident Evil 4 just isn't for me.

It's a situation similar to the original release of Metroid Prime, the control scheme.

Single analog stick controls in a 3D action game is no bueno.

@Grumblevolcano Interesting...

Six years and likely over a thousand hours into playing my Switch and I've been lucky enough not to have had drift. I have switched between multiple pairs over the years though.

However, my issue at the moment is that my right joy-con is prone to sliding out of the rail (i.e. it doesn't lock in properly)...anyone experienced this and know of a quick fix?

@Buizel do you happen to slide it all the way in until you hear a clicky sound? I'm pretty OCD'ish about this stuff so i would know xD

Buizel

@Yannis Of course! But then it can be removed again with a simple push of the thumb...

Edit: on reflection, it doesn't quite make the same clicking sound as the left-hand joy-con, presumably due to the fault in the mechanism.

@Buizel
Your latch wore down. I got mine swapped out for aluminum latches that won't wear down rubbing against plastic.

For $15 you can get them replaced, including cost of shipping to and from.

Select "Alloy Slider Buckles" from the drop down. I've had this guy replace the latches on 2 pairs of joycon, and install HALL Sensor analogs for me. He's excellent.

@Buizel Is it possible that it's actually the rail on the Switch rather than the joy-con? I have a similar problem and it isn't fixed by using a different pair.

@Grumblevolcano
Don't think that's the reason.

We see diminished stock in countries where they've been fixing joycon for many years.

@TeaCatherine It's not the rail (thank God) --- same problem with the joy-con grip.

It's a shame because I recently sold the rest of my joy-con...wish I had at least kept a spare pair!

@JaxonH Thanks, I was hoping that nothing would need to be replaced, but it seems this might be the simplest option.

I'll have to look at a more local supplier though, with postage from the US I might as well just buy a new joy-con (when they're available!)

I think this is more-or-less equivalent? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mcbazel-Replacement-Screwdrivers-Joy...

@Buizel Ah, right. I completely forgot about the grip.

@skywake Yeah you make a good point. It'll be exciting to see what happens this year and next!

I don't think the Switch successor will be released or announced during 2023. 2023 is too soon, given that Zelda TotK launches on May, and there is just not enough time to announce the successor and give to the new Zelda the appropriate time to get the attention it deserves. Also, announcing the succesor during 2023 would just butcher the Christmas sales period, the most profitable period of the year.

With that said, I think a February announcement with a May - June release during 2024 would be the most strategical time period for the Switch successor.

If reports are coming in that only just now are next Gen Nintendo console kits are being sent out, then I would wait a lot longer than this year for the next console.

@shadow-wolf my take on this situation is that, at the lastest holiday 2024 all of us will be playing Nintendo lastest hardware, year by year, Switch hardware sales has been decling and i doubt Nintendo will wait until they reach the same level Wii sales reached before the reveal of Wii U, they must strike when the iron is still hot(not wait when it demand is waning), so is advisable to launch the Switch sucessor when the demand for Switch is still strong, the shareholder meeting in may shall give us a better glipse about the future of Nintendo Switch and possibly it sucessor

i like HD Rumble.

That report was false, and a deliberate prank feeding bad info to the guy just to see if they'd retweet it without verifying the source, which they did.

@TheBigBlue There’s reports that dev kits are going out? I’m kinda surprised but it does raise the chances of leaks happening sooner or later.

My only hope for next switch is getting native resident evil 7/8 and Yakuza series. I get that along with current output from Nintendo and I will be tickled lol. Oh and m.2 ssd hard drive, the micro sd solution is just not gonna cut it.
