@kkslider5552000 If/Fates wasn't a bad game, the story was messy and the pricing was off putting (I have the SE so I was spared that) but it was a LOT of FE and the gameplay was enjoyable. Some folks may prefer one route to another or whatnot but the gameplay held up even with them trying 3 different approaches. As with any popular franchise people want different things and it is really hard to field a consensus. Which is why personally I mostly use reviews to gauge technical issues (bugs and framereate not graphics).

I get the feeling Nintendo’s going to announce a new 3D Mario soon (either that or a MK8 Deluxe style “surprise, here’s Odyssey DLC”). Randomly out of nowhere there’s an email from Nintendo about Mario Odyssey. At least the BotW one from December makes sense as TotK launches in May but the Odyssey one doesn’t.
But then again, Mario would most likely be the big holiday title of the year if a new 3D Mario of which I couldn’t see an announcement this early in the year unless it was part of a Switch 2 announcement event using the BotW + Odyssey trick with TotK + new 3D Mario.
I would bet actual money Mario Odyssey 2 (or some comparably massive Mario platformer) or that long rumored Donkey Kong game is coming out this year. I'd have no idea what's even going on at Nintendo anymore if the 3d Mario team has nothing to show (barring an extra game made to sell the 3D World port) after all this time.
@Grumblevolcano a 2D/3D Mario game is possible, but, i believe Nintendo is saving the next 2D/3D Mario for the launch of Switch sucessor, along with the next Mario Kart game(Mario Kart 9/10?) and maybe Metroid Prime 4 as the BOTW situation you mentioned, and the deluxe game, could be a Deluxe version of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, with all DLC included(before Nintendo release the next Super Smash Bros game on Switch sucessor or not)
Or, here's a wild theory (and I don't mean that sarcastically), maybe Nintendo has decided to double the Switch lifespan from the 5 years of Wii U to 10 years, and has another 4 years of titles planned until Switch 2. And because that stretches it out far enough, they have time to develop a whole new Zelda for Switch 2 besides TotK. Since TotK was likely finished in 2022 and sat on like most other titles, that would be a 5 yr cycle and another 5 after to the next.
Maybe we're gonna still be having these conversations in 2026, with Giancarlos still posting videos about Switch 2 being imminent any day now 😀

@JaxonH I think that would be likely if we got through 2023 without Switch 2 announced but at the same time had a new 3D Mario released and some form of Mario Kart content confirmed for rather early in 2024 (whether Booster Course Pass 2 or MK9).
That's a remake I'd be totally down for. I missed those games and was actively disinterested in it after other JRPGs like Kingdom Hearts and PSO started going in a similar card game based direction. But being Monolith Soft games, I probably missed out.
Best part is its not even the only card JRPG on GCN made by devs who would then make some of the most beloved RPGs of the past decade. Look up Lost Kingdoms.
@Grumblevolcano I don't think Switch 2 is coming this year, but at the same time I do think people are missing 3D Mario so perhaps they are pulling another Booster Course pack situation because Odyssey sold so well and enough people are asking "where's Odyssey 2?" (which seems to be exactly why they did the Booster Course pack). And while I am an outspoken critic of the Booster Course pack, that's mainly because I want to see larger changes to the gameplay that you need a new game for. With Odyssey 2 I just want to see new kingdoms and captures and DLC can satisfy that just fine, whatever format they choose to give that to me I'd be fine with.
I do think 2024 is when we get Switch 2 and it'll probably be BC, so the big games we've been getting recently such as Splatoon 3 and TotK could still be played on the new system as well as new games. But I also think we'll have few Switch 2 exclusives to start and it'll be a slow transition with tons of cross gen games like 3DS -> Switch was, that would allow them to gracefully transition without dumping the Switch's strong userbase and sales momentum.
@Grumblevolcano I actually saw a Twitter post from someone I follow, that shows the SMO email. I agree that it doesn't make sense, because they did not say a single word about when the next 3D Mario will be made. If anything, it made me want the next 3D Mario game that much more, lol. I finished Odyssey with every unique Power Moon back in 2019, and fully completed Bowser's Fury in 2021. So I'm all ready for Mario's next adventure, whenever that will be. For now, we'll just wait until Nintendo decides to show it off.

Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@MarioLover92 It's typical for them not to give specific information about when the next game will release until they're ready for a formal announcement. If they give out the date ahead of time, competitors could choose to release their game at the same time to siphon off sales, or (far more likely in this case given how popular Mario is) avoid that date and schedule it for another time to maximize sales. A release date is not something you should expect in the first place, this is presumably just a quick tease of "get ready for more Mario fun, stay tuned for further announcements!". They're probably not going to give us full details such as the name, content, release date, etc. until a future Nintendo Direct.
Fire Emblem Engage reviews are in and I'm kinda shocked to read that the social sim stuff is more of an afterthought compared to recent entries, and that they focused more on the strategy combat.
That actually makes me more excited for Engage, as a more focused Fire Emblem that emphasizes the strategy sounds right up my alley. That being said it'll likely make Engage a more divisive entry among fans where those that enjoyed the social aspects of Three Houses and other recent entries might not like this entry as much.
Curious to see how well Engage does between the social stuff taking a backseat and its January launch date.
@Bolt_Strike It’s all about the lineup. Given how many franchises are already represented in 2022 and 2023 so far and hence next game would be around 2027/2028 outside of Pokemon I do feel that the stronger the 2023 lineup is, the harder it would be to have a strong Switch 2 lineup if the console released in 2024 - 2026.
I just don't think the SMO 2 rumors are true, given that it's been so long since Super Mario Odyssey. You'd think that if they were making a direct sequel or DLC within the same engine as the main game, due to having ideas left over, they would've done so soon after the first, instead of waiting all this time. I'd be somewhat disappointed if the next 3D Mario isn't a brand new game, rather than a sequel to a mediocre one.
Also, I don't see the "Switch 2" coming this year. TotK is most certainly releasing with an OLED model, and we would've most likely heard of the next big console by now if it were going to come out in 2023. People have to remember that just because there's a new Zelda doesn't mean that the new Zelda will launch right beside brand new hardware. Tons of past games in the series haven't done so, and the only real reason BotW did was because Nintendo was jumping ship from the failure that was the Wii U. It also wouldn't make sense when you take into account that the switch doesn't actually have it's own 3D Zelda yet. BotW doesn't really count, as it was originally made for the Wii U in mind, and brought over to the switch halfway through development. No Zelda game actually exists that takes advantage of the Switch's feature set. I doubt they'll end up jumping ship again and not give the system a proper game that takes advantages of the system's gimmicks.

@VoidofLight SMO is definitely not a mediocre game, it is one of the best, if not the best, 3D Mario to date. SMO2 would be huge news and would generate incredible sales, in a similar vein to Zelda TotK. It's not like we haven't seen successful sequels to 3D Mario games, Mario Galaxy 2 comes to mind, another amazing game. SMO2 is one of the most anticipated titles Nintendo could launch in the remaining lifespan of Switch.
@alexwolf
It's defenetly not mediocre. But I didn't like the collectathon aspect of the game personally. I really enjoyed the sub worlds, the parkour parts of the game. It really misses actual jump 'n run gameplay. I have alot more fun with 3D World, despite beeing on a smaller scope. And even playing it for the 100th time since its release on Wii U.
@VoidofLight TotK is exactly what you describe though, it’s a direct sequel to BotW launching 6 years after BotW came out. The big difference being that TotK was announced way too early.
@Budda I hear that, and I am sure that SMO is not everyone's preferred 3D Mario, but objectively speaking, from online reviews and sales numbers, it is definitely one of the best Mario 3D titles.
