@JaxonH I thought the same thing about that tweet/leak. It's obvious 'big first-party title', to him, includes a set of, like, five different series that sell tens of millions of copies, and pretty much all of which were obviously not going to show back up on the Switch anyway.

I know Pikmin doesn't sell well (yet), but it likely has a large-ish budget behind it, AND the passion of one of the most talented folks in the world. It's a major release in every way that matters.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that there's almost no risk of Switch suffering for a lack of new content on its way out, and that Nintendo, even if they're preparing a planned transition, are in no rush to expedite the process.

@GrailUK @SlashFuture @MarioLover92 Thanks for the warm words, folks. I actually do appreciate the concern.

@JaxonH @IceClimbers, 100% with you, how they can state Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is the final high profile game for Nintendo Switch, if Nintendo still have not released Metroid Prime 4, where does Metroid Prime 4 fit on Nintendo current schedule? is Metroid Prime 4 istill releasing on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo has moved it development to the Switch sucessor?

Can we talk about how people dumped on Atlus hard (twice!) for Tokyo Mirage Sessions being the way it is, but now the newest mainline Fire Emblem game is super colorful, features classic Fire Emblem characters as Stands, has what amounts to a V-Tuber character design for the protagonist, and triples down on the modern anime look?

Faia Emburem the Musical was ahead of its time, man.

Yeah, only if you embrace the sugar coated cheese vibe of it will you like it. As it's own thing I thought it was a fun lighter game which I liked but didn't love that works in own endearing way but I still feel like it's a miss as I was really looking forward to the orginal promise of a Fire Emblen x Shin Megami Tensei crossover and all that could have been.

@jump They really shot themselves in the foot when they promised Fire Emblem x SMT and then delivered that, lol. I just think it's really funny how much the new Fire Emblem is reminding me of the vibe this game was giving off. Sans the pop idol stuff, of course.

Yesterday's Underrated Game
Sniper Elite 4
Today's Underrated Game
Final Fantasy Crisis Core

A recent release that seems to be doing quite well on Switch, I'm convinced it should be doing far better. Too often people complain about games not coming to Switch, or not coming day and date, or being a noticeable downgrade... here we have a game that is on Switch, was day and date, and isn't a downgrade. It looks incredible, runs rock solid and it's a lot more fun than I was expecting. In fact, it's quickly shot up to be my 2nd favorite Final Fantasy game.

The optional side missions are structured perfectly for a portable device (which makes sense given it was originally created as a handheld entry), but the mainline story still drives forward with a surprisingly gripping narrative. The characters are really relatable. I particularly like the offhand snide remarks.

As if all that wasn't enough, it's got extremely fast load times and the file size isn't too bloated. Game is all on cart too if you're a physical diehard. Anyone with a passing interest in Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy as a series, JRPGs in general or is just looking for a quality game that offers a new experience, I highly recommend it.

@Ralizah
I think the difference is, the styles in Fire Emblem look really good, while the styles in TMS#FE looked pretty goofy. Well, some of them anyways (some were really on point). It also seemed way more anime and the music was all j-pop. Whereas Fire Emblem Engage seems to offer a more grounded anime design and the music isn't an instant turn off.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

@JaxonH Fire Emblem Engage is pretty much the least grounded entry in the series design-wise. The characters look like Genshin Impact pulls and V-Tubers.

The TMS cast designs are restrained in comparison. In terms of both the outfits and the facial proportions of the female characters.

Untitled

Actually, Itsuki provides an interesting comparison point, since he's more than a little reminiscent of Alear's design. Just... without the goofy aspects.

Untitled

Presumably there'd be more pushback if they were also singing J-Pop, though, I agree.

Nice sword, btw.

To be fair the Switch port had to contend with "this is not Persona 5", even SMTV had to deal with that too. Speaking of which, with that finally resolved just over 2 months ago I think 2023 would be a good fit for a SMTIV remaster.

Maybe "in the series" but compared to other games, including TMS, it's much more grounded.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

JaxonH

@Ralizah
Also,

It's that character with the shoulder tassles and frilled chest bib... it's always repelled me. I hate that design so much. It just doesn't look good. The normal world character designs look fine. It's the extravagant designs that never appealed to me

Whereas I like all the designs in Engage. Main character included (I think I like the main character designs less than some of the other characters which has very stylish designs, but they're not bad). There's a few I'm not too excited about but overall, the game doesn't look nearly as j-poppy and anime. It's more like a mix of anime and western middle ages rennesaince period? (one of those time periods- the one with frilly neck scarves and extravagant cleavage popping dresses)

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Oh, totally. Joycon-kun looks vaguely clownish. Or maybe like a circus performer?

Joycon-chan, on the other hand, is precious.

@Grumblevolcano IMO they're more likely to give SMT V the updated re-release treatment than try and fix up a 3DS game to look presentable in HD. Although I'd buy an SMT IV remaster in a second.

Maybe someday they'll remember Devil Survivor and Etrian Odyssey exist, and we'll get new entries in those series as well.

@JaxonH Putting aside... well, everything... about Alear, I think what bothers me is that all of the female characters have the most generic anime-inspired designs possible. Where everyone just has the same sort of vaguely puffy, non-threatening face. It's a real pity, because the character designs in Three Houses and Echoes are so good.

The dungeon outfits in TMS are a touch extra, but they're supposed to be. Battles are done up like performances, so the battle outfits are a cross between the stylish excess of J-Pop performers and outfits you'd generally see people wear in a JRPG.

@Ralizah I think both will happen, Persona no longer PS exclusive resulting in PS version for SMTV but also you have the 3DS/Wii U eshop shutdown situation. Mario Kart Tour has got almost every Mario Kart 7 track, Pocket Card Jockey is coming to Apple Arcade, Sakurai teasing about Kid Icarus Uprising, Mega Man Battle Network collection, etc.

I could be way off but I feel that the 3DS/Wii U eshop shutdowns in March are being taken very seriously.

Fire Emblem Engage looks so good.

I'm starting to feel a flood of emotions rushing in from my Awakening playthrough on 3DS, and to an extent Fates as well. This game is really reminding me of it. I love the world map, the "barracks" like mini-games, the "My Castle" like home base, the online co-op, the single story with amnesiac protag fighting against a fell dragon, the weapon triangle... this is not a knock against Three Houses but, this looks like the Fire Emblem I've been waiting for. A game with Awakening/Fates gameplay without the terrible story/characters of Fates. I don't need anything award winning, just needs to not be dull and cringe.

Judging by the previews from sites I trust, it sounds like it could be the best Fire Emblem to date. And the best part is- once that 100 hr playthrough is finished, I still have 2.5 routes left in Three Houses if accounting for the DLC. Plus there's Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes I can go back to, which feels far closer to Fire Emblem than it does Warriors, even despite having Warriors action gameplay. So there's plenty of Fire Emblem left on the plate afterward if I haven't had my fill.

Really wish they'd put the GBA Fire Emblem games on Switch already. I can understand the GameCube, Wii, DS and 3DS games not being brought over, but at least give us FE Blazing Sword and FE Sacred Stones.

I will second this, in the context of the game their costume makes great sense. Think of it like seeing someone like Ghost or Lady Gaga, without the extra make up and glamour to them it would be alot more boring rather than a big theatrical live gig. I always prefer it with these games that have silly characters owning the over the topness rather than trying to make it practical in design.

Something I don't think they are given credit for is it that the colours aren't obnoxiously bright, them leaning more towards smooth water colours was a clever choice to avoid it being too sickly sweet which it could have very easily been.

@Ralizah well everyone complanined that Fire Emblem Tree Houses plot is too intense, for TMS they expected a more darker take on Fire Emblem, not a Persona take on Fire Emblem. @JaxonH some of the design of the characters in Fire Emblem Engage is based on clothing used on the renaissance/barosque period, and the artstyle of the game is a semi realitistic anime artstyle, kinda like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and it sequel.

@Giancarlothomaz I skimmed the video, but didn't see any point where he complains that the story is too intense. Care to provide a timestamp?

@JaxonH That blonde villain is something else. She has what looks like a french maid headpiece on, and is covered in bows.
