@Kermit1 Nintendo seem to be fairly durable so I wouldn't worry too much. Enjoy the game. All my Nintendo controllers still work and they going on 25+ years.

Way I see it is, if you're modifying how you play games out of fear for what might happen, you've already lost.

My policy is and always has been, "play how I want without fear of what might or could happen". If something happens down the line, then I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

@JaxonH that's a good policy I'll give it a try, If you don't mind.

I just noticed something, Nintendo did it again. MK8 Deluxe reappeared right around the time new things were happening with Chocobo GP. Season 3 begins August 4th which just so happens to be the same day as MK8 Deluxe DLC wave 2.

I still receive Switch news articles for Chocobo GP even though I haven't played since March.

@Grumblevolcano So you are saying Nintendo is having some major passive aggression?

Yo!!!

Splatoon 3 Switch OLED available from Amazon France for $324 USD shipped to the USA.

That's like... $36 under MSRP what it will cost here, and then another $18 from sales tax that would be applied if bought here. We're talking like $50 savings buying through Amazon.fr as an import

Does anybody find the "left-stick button" weird to use. I'm scared to use it because I don't want the stick to get loose. I'm playing Skyward Sword and you click in the stick to do I think roll and I'm scared to press it in to much.

Just leaving this here for anyone who is so-inclined and also concerned about joycon drift. The ultimate solution to this problem....

I believe these ones use Hall sensors rather than resistive potentiometers. So there won't be any wear and they're basically 99% accurate with no-dead zone required (in theory, Switch OS will still add a dead zone). They also have modules for the Steam Deck if you're into that but, that upgrade is probably a little bit more involved/risky I'd think

@skywake
I just ordered two sets of 2 from AliExpress since there wasn't any option to buy on their store.

$18 after discounts. Not bad. My analogs are doing just fine, but if the day comes they fail, I'll just pay someone on Etsy to throw these in for me. There's services offering to replace analogs for $10-15 as is. Would likely be even less if I supplied my own and said hey. Just swap em out.

Good catch with that. Not sure they use HALL sensor though. But maybe. Seemed to me they just are made with reinforced materials to prevent deformation through use (which honestly is likely the main culprit of drift from wear of normal use- tiny fragile housing can flex and bend over time). But anything to make it more resilient is a plus to me.

Yeah, you may be right. They do have one on the way though seems like that version isn't available yet

They do have a "Switch Pro Controller" and Steam Deck replacement sticks with HAL sensors though

wtf

Even Xenoblade DE looks better undocked now. Weirdly, it somehow looks sharper in handheld mode than it did before, despite the OLED screen being bigger.

But man, the colors make some scenes look entirely different. It's nuts.

Really curious to see how XC2 balances out now. Might have to re-download it just to see.

@Ralizah See what I mean about things looking "sharper" despite the lower pixel density? The screen quality / colour vibrancy really does wonders in this regard.

That said, I'm one of the few that took no issues with either Xenoblade game in handheld mode. Not sure what that says about me!

At least 2'8".

@Ralizah
I just fired up Xenoblade 3 and my goodness... it looks incredible in handheld mode! Unbelievably good.

You gotta see it with your own eyes. This game is on another level btw.

I originally posted about this yesterday in the thread about your latest purchase, but I'm excited, so I will post about it again. I bought a Switch OLED from Amazon yesterday, and it will be here at some point today. This will be my first Nintendo system since the original NES.

I will likely start things off with either Xenoblade Chronicles or Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I will be buying both off of the eShop, but it's a tough decision to decide which one to go with as they two of the biggest reasons why I decided to get a Switch.

Wow, congrats!

There's a lot of games to catch up on. You really can't go wrong with either game. You clearly have good taste. Imo Xenoblade 3 is the one I'd start with, but if you wanted to play the Trilogy in order, I can understand that too.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is very, very good though.

I'd recommend the following:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles DE
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Fire Emblem Three Houses
  • Metroid Dread
  • DKC Tropical Freeze
  • Zelda Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Triangle Strategy
  • Splatoon 3 (Sept 9th)
  • Bayonetta 3 (Oct 28th)

@NeonPizza, no love for the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection?

Resolution unfortunately wavers a bit in the second game, but they all seem to be very slick, fun, challenging games. Haven't played the third though.

@JaxonH Handheld looks alright so far. About on par with DE near the beginning, before you start exploring open areas. The cutscenes are kinda blurry on the dock, though. Animation quality aside (which is clearly improved in this game), XC2 seems like it cut a decently cleaner image on the TV.

Can't really judge the visual quality until I get into the game's huge open areas, though.

Really hope I get through this ugly opening section soon, though. So many brown and grey colors.

@Buizel It's weird. Xenoblade DE looks quite a bit more fetching at the start, but some games have become noticeably softer, like SMT V and DQXI S. Although the colors of the latter are so vibrant that it's still my preferred way to play.

I wouldn't say every game looks better, necessarily: some don't seem all that different, but some are dramatically improved. I might as well sell my PS4 copy of Tetris Effect, because this is the way I'll be playing it from now on.

I gotta say, I'm loving the 'feel' of this device, too. With the new screen and metal frame, it feels like a much more premium console.

I'm back from an extended hiatus for pretty much no reason. Please hold your applause.

All I really want to say is A Hat in Time is quite possibly the next-best 3D platformer on the Switch after Odyssey. And I'm mad I didn't find it until a couple weeks ago.

That's it.

I do wonder if the timing regarding XC3 and Splatoon 3 was about variety. If Splatoon 3 launched in July like a lot of people thought, it would've been yet another online multiplayer focused title in a sea of online multiplayer focused titles (e.g. Switch Sports, Mario Strikers, MK8 Deluxe DLC wave 2, Kirby's Dream Buffet) meanwhile XC3 is a single player game in a time window where there isn't much 1st party single player games (April - September). October and November are very heavy on single player games like Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3 and Scarlet/Violet.
