OK, yeah, I'm seeing huge differences in these videos with the OLED model. The first video especially. I think a lot of these Switch OLED videos on youtube would benefit from reducing the surrounding lighting in order to allow the vivid colors to stand out.

Kinda bummed about needing to wait for late August now.

BTW why the heck didn't Nintendo release a pure black theme alongside the release of the OLED instead of that dark gray theme we have now?

Yes, a pure black theme would have made perfect sense, and would save battery life. Not sure why they haven't done it yet. I just use the white theme since I can't stand blacks that aren't fully black.

It's pretty amazing seeing the OLED screen in person. Set it next to your old v1 Switch on the home screen with white background and it's like... wow

Waiting for BotW 2 makes the most sense regarding the OLED. If new hardware is coming, it's going to launch with BotW 2 meanwhile if BotW 2 comes along and there is no new hardware then you may as well buy the OLED if you're interested in one because new hardware would be years away.

I might get a Switch OLED at some point. My V1 Switch is still working fine (sans that burn-in issue that fixed itself), but I'm kinda worried that as more Mario Kart courses come out, my internal storage might run out. I prefer using that to store update data for my physical games, as well as ACNH - just in case my microSD card fails somehow. I don't know if Nintendo would make a new model that has, say, 128 GB of internal storage, though - should I go for the Switch OLED sometime?

@JaxonH Only major downside is that I just know I'll feel compelled to waste a lot of time going back through older games to see what they look like on the new screen. It seems like anything with lots of blacks (Tetris Effect, Fatal Frame) or bright color schemes (Monster Hunter Stories 2, DQXI S) will show the most improvement.

Seriously, the DQXI S footage in that video was nuts, and apparently it looks even better in person? Can't wait.

On the plus side, getting one would likely push me to finally play Metroid Dread, which seems like it was designed specifically to showcase the strengths of the new display.

Oh man, don’t make me want to get a third Switch just so I can have an OLED. The main reason I didn’t get one in the first place was because I didn’t know if I’d use it in portable mode enough.

I'm starting to think a Switch Pro is actually going to launch with Zelda BotW. I know I said I thought it would be 2024, maybe even longer, but... Idk. With two recent legitimate leaks saying it's coming somewhat soon, and with Nintendo stocking up raw materials (twice as much as they did for Switch Lite) and with virtually zero games revealed for 2023 thus far (which is rather odd- we knew most of the 2022 lineup by mid-2021)... and the fact any new system released will likely be launched alongside a big system seller, and the fact they did special edition systems with MH and Mario 6 months before the OLED dropped, which kinda lines up with the Splatoon OLED, and then there's the fact we're probably due for another revision in 2023, especially since Nintendo wants to extend the generation...

Idk. I'm just starting to get very suspicious. I know ppl have predicted it to death and at this point it's like boy who cried wolf. But I really am starting to think March 2023 could be a Switch revision + Zelda launch.

You haven't played Dread yet? Oh my gosh, it's sooo good. Best 2D Metroid by a wide margin imo. Don't play it now. Wait for the OLED. That game would not be done justice on the LCD screen.

You're right. Games with blacks and games with bright colors. Though honestly every game benefits, even more brown realistic games. Not nearly as much, but you can still tell the difference.

I've seen a lot of ppl who specifically started playing portably much more once they got the system because it looks so good. That and the kickstand makes handheld and tabletop so much more inviting.

@JaxonH You thinking it’ll be a Pro and not just a new successor system? I’m not totally sure Nintendo will want to stop doing generational systems. They are pretty old school in their thinking. I do think we will officially hear about the system next year so it can launch in 2024 with Metroid being a cross platform game and then we get the new Mario Kart and a new 3D Mario game too. Kinda what they did with the Switch, just not having that big open world Zelda. My thoughts are a Pro won’t be a big enough leap, whereas a true successor could be allow for something along the lines PS4 or Xbox One in power.

Hmm I may need to re-adjust some expenses next month to get this new device - the OLED I mean.

Metroid Prime is my favorite game of all time, but this would be an absolutely terrible idea. There's a tiny handful of launch games that will sell a new Nintendo system to the degree necessary to kickstart an entire console, this is obviously not one of them.

This has not stopped literally any mid-generation upgrade ever.

Idk. I'm inclined to think Pro given their repeated statement of extending the generation and mid life cycle. I don't see a new system releasing with Zelda. Too soon. I think if a Pro doesn't release with Zelda, we're not getting one and the next step up will be Switch 2 in a couple years.

But I suspect they'll leverage a Pro to keep momentum strong until then. It doesn't have to be some massive leap. The games are able to run on base Switch after all. But if it can make some games hit 1080p with stable 30, or hit 60 for games with unlocked framerates. That could be enough to invigorate the fanbase for the final 2 year stretch.

But who knows. That's what I'm starting to think. But I could be way off. Guess we'll find out.

Pretty much my stance. I’m hoping for a Zelda themed system rather than a successor personally but if a successor came out I would buy it since I buy all of my Nintendo consoles day one now. But I want an OLED so I am leaning towards special edition.

I don't mind flipping my current set-up for an OLED, but I don't want to do that and then transition to another device in half a year. Whatever I buy next is what I'm sticking with for the foreseeable future.

I'm probably never going to get an OLED, I'm really happy with my V2 Switch right now, and I'm saving up for a PS Vita soo.

Even as someone who has used the device semi-consistently since 2014 or thereabouts, I have to wonder, what games made you think: "I gots to have me a Vita in 2022!"?
