Portal was originally created by Valve as a Steam store exclusive, back when they used to make games. It was then ported to console (PS3/360) alongside Half Life and Half Life 2 in a collection known as, "The Orange Box".
The Orange Box was primarily marketed with the Half Life games, while Portal was more or less included as a "freebie" bonus. But it was so good, gamers liked it more than Half Life! It became so popular, they eventually made a sequel, Portal 2, and that was ported separately to the 7th gen consoles.
To date, they were the only console release of the Portal games. They ran at 30fps, 720p max resolution, and had no gyro aiming (though the PS3 version did support the PS Move controller and offered exclusive levels).
Then Valve stopped making software, and for the last 10 years, fans have been begging for Portal 3 and Half Life 3 more than Nintendo fans begged for Metroid Prime 4. But... Valve just stopped releasing games.
Until Half Life Alyx which was built ground up for VR, exclusive to the Valve Index. But still no Portal sequel. The games were never released on PS4 or Xbox One, PS5 or Xbox Series. Valve simply stopped making games, and stopped porting their games to consoles.
Until now.
This is the first time Valve has brought one of their 1st party releases to console in a decade. And it's a phenomenal port.

Hurrr, bring on that 8K resolution so we can see every single stupid little pore on some actors face, HDR(which has zero quality standards) and lets ruin that cinematic motion with the sope opera effect which makes it feel like you're there on set watching actors do things in front of the camera. lol Not only that, but all of these weirdo's keep obsessing over more TV brightness/nits. OLED's can already get bright enough for SDR to the point where it will make your eye balls sizzle. This is the mind set that a lot of younger millenials and Gen Z's have adopted.
To be super blunt, this is a very bad take. HDR is a pretty significant shift and a hugely positive one. Also HDR isn't really about peak brightness, although it is a factor, it's more about the contrast ratio across multiple colours. The dynamic range if you will, it is higher, hence the name
In terms of higher resolutions like 8K? Well sure, resolution isn't really the main game in town anymore. The main game is right now is dynamic range which you also dismissed. However particularly for games 4K isn't really the end of the road because aliasing is a thing. Do we need 8K screens? Not really. But there is certainly a visual advantage to rendering at resolutions above 4K and scaling down. Given more pixels in a screen is a relatively easy and cheap direction to go? I don't see why we wouldn't go down that road
And as a side note, the more pixels you have the more resolutions you can support without having weird scaling. On a 720p screen 360p scales nicely, 480p doesn't. At 1080p you get 540p but not 480p or 720p. 1440p gives you 720p, 480p and 360p but not 1080p. 4K gives you even scaling at 1080p, 720p, 540p & 480p. 8K gives you native scaling at 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 540p, 480p.....
The soap-opera effect? Honestly this is not really something worth even giving the time to respond to. Yes of course some TVs have post-processing effects that are complete garbage. This is nothing new. But ultimately the movement in this area over the last few years has been to BETTER post-processing. In terms of game modes, where this really matters, more modern TVs have super low response times due to super fast and/or light processing. We also have TVs now that have 120Hz panels and better with variable refresh rates. None of these are bad developments and if you think they're just gimmicks I'd argue you're the one who's got the faulty mindset

@NeonPizza
I mean your entire bit was supposedly attacking a "mind set that a lot of younger millenials and Gen Z's have adopted". Aka a mindset of asking for things like HDR and 8K from their displays. And honestly, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who knows anything about tech spruiking motion interpolation and shonky post-processing. Certainly not from the kind of people who are at least knowledgeable enough to know or even care about HDR
And in any case there's a bit of irony in your ramblings here. You're having a go at peak brightness as if it's something we shouldn't care about, that higher resolution sets are meaningless because we don't need to see that much detail and (initially) were having a go at higher framerates. And that you'd rather 3D than these things. But then you're ignoring that the 3DTVs we got 10 or so years ago were limited by.... resolution, brightness and framerate

I have to honest, there's a small part of me that's terrified to wait for games like Klonoa, because maybe the company will be like "well people didn't buy it enough in the first month, guess this series is dead!"
@Link-Hero
That's a duh moment. Of course you're right. Anything that runs SteamVR will run it. Good catch.

So happy to see Persona 5 on a Nintendo home console and i can't wait to see how beautiful it will look there, But i sttill have some questions like how long the game will be and can i play as any other characters besides Joker?
The game is roughly 100 hours, give or take about 20 hours.
For the social sim / daily component, you will only ever play as Joker (unlike Persona 3 Portable there is no female equivalent playable character). However, you'll be able to control other party members in combat as early as the first dungeon (IIRC around 2-4 hours into the game). Joker must always be in your party.
@JaxonH I was hoping to make a longer post in the forums later, but for the moment I just want to say that I liked what you had to say about what constitutes whining, and I am forced to agree with you for the moment about the comment sections being overrun by trolls and children. Here are some choice quotes from today's article about F-Zero being mentioned at the shareholder meeting:
Who care about F-Zero, the real news here is that snip
and you know what they said to him? ... “No way Jose”
Don't need a new F-Zero. I'll take GX HD and be happy. Really doubt they can top that game, anyway.
I have tried to have a shorter Ignore list this year, but I think that experiment is over.
I asked this once a few months ago in a different thread but no one knew an answer, so I’ll ask here: does anyone know if on the Nintendo website somewhere you can add a specific amount of funds? On the eShop itself, you can only do $10, $20, $50, or $100. Specifically, if I wanted to put $5 on, is it possible to do that?
EDIT: I just checked on the website, and it doesn’t seems as though you can add anything other than those 4 amounts. Tell me if you know any way you can add $5 please.
check out the review of Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak and Cuphead the the last Course and check out the analysis of the Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope showcase.
@DarthNocturnal That’s not why. Last time I said the reason it seemed to confuse some people, so I left it out this time but I’ll add it now - it’s a prepaid debit card I got as a gift, so it had $25 on it. I’ve used 20 of them, and now I have 5 more, but I don’t know if there’s any way to add it. When I tried on my 3DS it wouldn’t let me, but if I try on Switch (or the Nintendo website), I suppose it might just add the max amount if I say $10, I haven’t tried that yet…
Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.
@BabyYoda71 There's no way to put specific amounts on eshop cards. Deku Deals shows $5 eshop cards on amazon and best buy. $5 is as small as they get, and hardly anyone carries them, as far as I've seen.
Actually, amazon, best buy, and gamestop have $5 eshop cards.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is 🔥 🔥 🔥 as expected. An absolute dream come true, a game of a caliber we only see a few times per generation.
I took the day off for it, and it’s worse than crack cocaine. I can’t stop. I won’t stop. I’d don’t want to stop, ever.
Btw, due to the extra copies of the CE and normal release I got to keep sealed and one for the shelf, I have two digital codes for Sunbreak. One is the standard release, one is the digital deluxe.
Will sell them for $10 under MSRP if anyone is interested ($30 for standard, $40 for Deluxe), otherwise to eBay they go.
Oh, and this is the only take on Sunbreak you need. RageSlashGaming is an OG Hunter. This guy doesn’t miss.

I'm ready to give up on this Xenoblade CE. It's ruined my entire day. Been through 7 queues, every time I get to the page it won't add to cart, says item limit reached. Been dealing with this since the morning. And I'm just ready to throw the towel in and pay the 3X markup from a scalper on eBay. It's not worth it. This is a joke. I'm so frustrated
@Magician
Seriously doubt it. They never did for Iceborn and that was using discs.

I gotta say the Malzeno amiibo looks really cool in person. I keep setting my wallet on fire with this game but at least if it ever clicks I will have everything. Lol.

@skywake I think my complaint is much more geared towards Gen Zer's demanding higher frame rates for film. That crap is the absolute worst 99% of the time. But, in the end it doesn't matter because the option to either watch said movie at 24fps or 48-60fps will always be there no matter what.
I honestly don't think it's a generational thing at all. It's just people who know enough to not know anything, which is a universal thing that exists across ALL demographics.
Also the reason why higher framerate movies are dumb is because to get a higher framerate video you have to reduce the exposure time for each image. Recording something real at a lower framerate, which is what we're used to seeing in movies/tv, will add motion blur to every frame of content in motion. That's what we're used to so when you remove it something feels off. And it's also something that animators have also baked into their animations. So when you do this motion-smoothing post-processing all you're really doing is interpolating between frames that already have motion-blur baked in. Which doesn't do anything positive at all....
So I agree with you fundamentally there. I just don't agree at all with the angle you're approaching it from. I personally don't have a huge technical issue with high framerate video content. I do have a learned cultural dislike of it for certain kinds of content. And I also don't think we should be forcing content into a box that's well outside of the way the creator intended to hit some arbitrary check box
