Topic: The Nintendo Switch Thread

Per Emily Rogers, we have a new Fire Emblem title that was originally intended to celebrate the 30th anniversary, but for whatever reason wasn't released that year.

• Upcoming Fire Emblem is a new game, not a remake.
• Brand new story.
• Collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo and Gust (division of Koei Tecmo Holdings).
• Gust heavily assisted with the visuals / graphics.
• Graphics are an improvement over “Three Houses”.
• Originally intended as an anniversary game to celebrate FE’s 30th anniversary.
• The game has been finished for over a year.
• Main character (main lord) has strange red and blue hair. His mother is a dragon.
• New “Emblems” gimmick allows players to summon “FE characters from the past” for your squad.

@JaxonH if that's the case, I'm all in. All I wanted was a new FE game in the last direct, and we got one, but not was I was hoping for.

You referring to Three Hopes? Ya, I felt the same way. But after playing the demo I feel like it's just as good as a new mainline FE.

But I'll certainly take another! Question is when it gets slotted in. This year is packed, and already has Three Hopes, but if they don't release it this year they'd have to slot it in next year, and we heard there's a remake also... might put them in a situation where they release a new entry and remake in the same year.

@JaxonH Sounds like what happened was Three Hopes was originally DLC for Three Houses (with traditional gameplay, not Warriors gameplay) but grew too big to be DLC (much like how BotW 2 was originally BotW DLC) and so became a standalone title hence it made sense for the next mainline Fire Emblem to release after Three Hopes.

@JaxonH yea 3 hopes. I wasn't disappointed by the announcement, but I wasn't happy either. I'm still getting it, so no harm no foul I guess. In a packed year, maybe a remake is more likely this year and nestle in the new game next year? Who knows, but im frothing at the mouth already!

DLC??? They already had DLC for Three Houses. It was the 4th House, Ashen Wolves. This game would make no sense as DLC since it reimagines the story with a new protagonist. It's clearly designed as a Warriors game from the start.

Also, Idk where you're getting BotW 2 being DLC from. BotW 2 is a new game, always has been.

@JaxonH It was reported on back in 2019 that BotW 2 started off as BotW DLC but the scope got too big.

Three Houses did get DLC but there may have originally been plans for even more DLC after. Smash for example had 2 Fighters Passes and we didn't know about the 2nd until the 1st was almost over.

In that article it states they simply decided to make a new game instead of DLC and started from scratch. Which isn't the same thing as DLC morphing into a game like Hollow Knight's.

I'd like to add that Saints Row 4 also started as DLC before becoming a full game. That one I distinctly remember.

With how long its taken, I felt like that was obviously going to happen with Silksong. It would just be weird for a DLC, even a substantial one, to take as long as the game itself (though that clearly didn't stop Cuphead :V).

The Persona situation has slightly been resolved, PS4 is getting P4G and P3P so now much like Soul Hackers 2 it's a "everything but Switch" situation for all 3 Persona games. Likely Nintendo stockpiling announcements for a Direct.

In other news, the Sunbreak demo has gone live. Go to the MH Rise page, select download demo and it gives the option for Sunbreak demo.

I've been so anxious waiting for this all day I had to go to sleep and set an alarm just to pass the time after work. But it's downloading now, finally!

Excited to finally play Celeste since it's on sale for £5 at the moment. Been on my wishlist for two years.

@Clyde_Radcliffe I'm jealous you get to experience it for the first time. It's incredible and an steal at that price!

One of the names in the list translates to Anna, and their profile pic looks like what you'd expect Anna to look like, so I'm erring on the side of it being authentic.

That hair is crazy, but I'm sure there's a story reason for it. Said it was designed as an anniversary title. I imagine the main character is infused half dragon and that caused the split in hair color. While my first impression was, "that looks awful" I'm getting more used to it now. Either way, I'm excited and want to see the full game.

For now though, it's all about Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes and Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, both of which have demos live on the eShop btw. If you own a Switch and haven't played these demos, what are you even doing 😀

That joycon hair looks almost Nahobino-esque. If he tried to dye it and stopped halfway, anyhow.

@JaxonH I'm just gonna play Sunbreak when it comes out. It's not like you can transfer data to the main game anyway.

True. I was more referring to people who aren't buying the game and should check it out because I think it could sell them on it. If you're already sold the demo has little purpose aside from sating your thirst.

Jungle map is awesome though. It's a seriously great remake. And Astalos is magnificent! I'm skipping Malzeno though because I don't want to spoil the fight before the main game, being a new monster and all. I fought Magnamalo so much in the base game demo I already knew his moveset when I got to him.

BTW, I was under the impression the blue/red haired protagonist was a female. I thought I read you could also choose a male protagonist (which is pretty standard in FE now). I imagine the male protagonist has short hair.
