@Fizza
Question, how did you calculate the power you need to swing the tee for golf games by general?
I still suck in playing any cartoonish golf games, Nintendo or Sony games. Oftenly I got positive scores for hitting the ball a lot.

It's likely to thwart piracy. Games downloaded onto the system are encoded with a unique hardware ID that's encrypted, and only that specific hardware unit can decrypt it.

It's definitely a pain in the butt to redownload, but frankly, so is physical, where you have to take your game cartridges out one by one, insert into cartridge slot, manually trigger an update, take it out, put it away, rinse and repeat 300-400 times.

Whereas with digital you just go down the list from the Redownload section and bam bam bam bam bam, trigger the downloads in rapid fire succession. It may take longer to download than updates, but it's also less work on the user end. And it's not something you have to do often- once every couple years after upgrading. It's no big deal. Get the screen protector on, redownload games, couple days later you've forgotten all about it.

@Anti-Matter When it comes to starting it off (getting it to the green), I just try and hit it as hard as possible (aka trying to line it up to get nice shots). My advice would be to pre-empt your shots since, as an emulated N64 game, there'll always be a tiny bit of input lag to account for.

@DarthNocturnal You say that, yet it is actually making me pine for another round of pitch and putt at my local golf centre.

I'm addicted to Nintendo Account Platinum Coins.

Ever since they introduced the avatars, backgrounds and frames I've tried to collect them all. But it takes a LOT of coins to do that. Someone has worked it out:

EARN

  • Sign in to Nintendo eShop on a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS system (weekly): 30 coins
  • Collect the My Nintendo sign-in bonus (weekly): 30 coins
  • Sign in to your Nintendo Account on the official Nintendo website (weekly): 30 coins
  • Keep promotional e-mails set to "Receive from Nintendo" (monthly): 10 coins
  • Play NES Software (monthly): 50 coins
  • Play Software that supports online play (weekly): 30 coins
  • Use save data cloud (weekly): 20 coins
  • Use NSO app (weekly): 20 coins

So you can earn 700 580 coins in a 4-week month or 860 740 in a 5-week month.

SPEND

  • Weekly avatars (SMO for March): 150 coins needed
  • Monthly avatars (Animal Crossing birthdays): 390 coins needed

And you'll need about 990 in a 4-week month, or 1140 in a 5-week month to buy all avatar rewards.

That's a deficit of 290 410 coins in a 4-week month, 280 400 coins in a 5-week month. So basically, we gotta find another 300 410 coins per month from somewhere. That's where Mario Run comes in.

If you play Toad Rally each day you earn 10 coins. That's 300-310 per month. You also get an additional 200 coins per month if you win 3 Toad Rallies per week, but I'm not counting that since it's not guaranteed and if you win half of them you'll be right on target.

You can also complete Camper Requests weekly in Animal Crossing mobile, if that's a game you'd rather play. I prefer Mario Run though. And... it's super fun. Legitimately hard to put down after just 1 Toad Rally. Don't wanna waste the tickets though (which, you can get 1 ticket per day from the bonus game which indefinitely sustains you for 1 Toad Rally per day).

@JaxonH
I'm constantly collecting Platinum Coins for a while now. It seems like the visiting Nintendo's official website reward got removed. At least I don't get that reward anymore.
I have hundred of coins expiring pretty soon. Glad there's something to spend them on. 😂

@JaxonH I'm just stockpiling Platinum Coins with the base 4 missions available on the Switch for when MK8 icons appear in the rotation.

@JaxonH I may have, sort of, kind of blew nearly 300 coins in the first month so this is very helpful for me. Those SMO icons man...

By the way, when you say to 'sign into your Nintendo account on the official wesbite', I'm not quite sure how I would do that since it already registers me as 'logged in' the moment I click on the site. Do I have to sign out then sign in again? And on that note, will anything bad happen by me accepting their marketing emails? Gotta make sure my privacy's intact you know.

@Fizza
You go to the MyNintendo home page and interact with your Mii character to claim 30 coins once per week. There's also secret missions you will occasionally run across- today my Mii character was floating from 3 balloons, the middle one of which was platinum colored with the coin logo on it. Once I popped all 3 balloons it said +10 coins for completing "secret mission". But ya. Always check MyNintendo once per week to claim your 30 coins.

edit
Sorry, thought you were referring to the MyNintendo coins. Idk if they still give coins for signing into your Nintendo Account. So this may not be 100% up to date and accurate. If someone knows exactly what needs to be corrected, by all means speak up so we can figure this out down to the coin.

@Fizza
And no, nothing bad. They don't sell your info and I hardly get anything from them at all, tbh. Maybe an email once or twice a month? But you can always assign to your junk folder if you want, while still claiming the coins from being signed up.

@JaxonH Understood. In regards to that Mii btw, do you have to create one or do you just link it with a Mii on your console? I've never understood what it means.

Not sure. I've had it associated with my MyNintendo account as long as I can remember. Just go to MyNintendo, click on top right user icon, User Settings, Profile, Edit Mii.

@JaxonH You will have brought your Mii over from the 3DS/Wii U era, if @Fizza started with Switch they won't have had to assign a Mii to their account.

@Grumblevolcano Thanks for the info! I started with 3DS but never made a Nintendo Account until Switch so I'll go do that right now.

Oh, wow, I never knew about the mii going across the MyNintendo homepage, thanks, @JaxonH ... Although I have plenty of platinum points since I hardly spend them on anything!

I get email quite frequently from Nintendo. When a new game gets released from Nintendo. Or quite obvious for game DLCs from games I recently played. For example I recently started playing Smash quite extensively again and got an ad for the DLC Fighter Pass all out of the sudden.

@BruceCM
Oh ya? It’s easy coins. And you get those secret missions on occasion, too.

@WaveBoy
Yes, pro controller works fine. Ditto on Bioshock trilogy gyro. I blew up their Twitter and rallied the troops to join me, but they never followed through with a patch.

Highly recommend 2 things.

1) XIM Nexus controller, which makes hundreds of Xbox One, Xbox Series and PS4 games playable with flawless gyro (no PS5 support). I was just playing Killzone Shadowfall yesterday with gyro aiming. Doom Eternal, Bioshock Remastered, Mass Effect Legendary, Monster Hunter World, all the Call of Duty games, etc. Best $150 I ever spent. So good I bought a 2nd to have one for PS4 games on PS5, and another for Xbox One and Xbox Series games on XSX.

2) SteamDeck, which makes games both portable and with gyro aiming. Like XIM Nexus- not every game is guaranteed to be supported, but enough are that it’s well worth it.

@Grumblevolcano

Still need to give SMTV a shot. I think it's $40 on Amazon right now but there's so much coming out soon.

@WaveBoy Microsoft is solely to blame for the absence of gyro in multiplatform PS4/PS5/XB1/Series X|S games as Xbox controllers don't have gyro. It's kind of understandable the XB1 controller not having it given gyro didn't take off in popularity among the Nintendo audience until a few years after the XB1's launch but there was no excuse regarding the Series X|S controller. Their decision though means if you want gyro controls in PS and Xbox games, you need to use a 3rd party solution like the Nexus controller @JaxonH mentions.
