One big draw for me to the switch is the drop in drop out factor. With a large Microsd card you have a plethora of games at your fingertips, many that you can pause and switch between quickly. Also the low install times. I realize that series x and ps5 are focusing on lower load times and being able to pause play but I have not gotten one yet and for them it feels to me like too little too late. The very things that I hated about the twins (long install times, long load times, constant updates (and I had terrible internet when I got them both) and large game sizes) meant while I was waiting for a game to become playable, I was already playing on switch. After a while I stopped really even wanting to play on the twins. I still buy games for them but most are in cellophane because by the time I clear hdd space and install… I could be playing switch. In away switch felt/feels more modern in that it respects my time as an adult.

It was like cartoon version of "BOTW" without any combats / violences, open world game, collecting items and crafting to build something. You can build a small farm and raise some wild animals to get their daily products. The game have guidance and location hints to clear the quest.
I have played Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles two times, first on Switch in July 2018 and PS4 version in November 2019.
The only differences between them was the grass height that looked taller on PS4 version but shorter on Switch version.
Better you pick this game for being very peaceful (no violences at all) game.

.......

I don't think I could narrow it down to just one game. Once a game is so good, its hard to discriminate between them. Best I can give is a top 10 list, in no particular order...

  • Monster Hunter Rise
  • Metroid Dread
  • Fire Emblem Three Houses
  • Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Triangle Strategy
  • Zelda BotW
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • DKC Tropical Freeze
  • Splatoon 2

I've put 11 hrs into the Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes demo, which is enough to know it makes the list. I also expect to add Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3 to the list over the next few months. Not sure if they'll all be top 10 but certainly top 20 at minimum.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

@Kermit1 I'm just gonna go ahead and quote my post from that "favorite games on Switch" thread...

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Edit: May as well add third-party games to my post.

Sonic Mania (Plus)
Tetris Effect Connected
Shovel Knight
Cuphead
Celeste

I've also been playing a ton of MK8D lately. You can thank the DLC for that...I so want wave 2 to come out already, lol. So, I'd say that's my favorite Switch game as of now.

Btw, did you watch Wholesome Direct 2022 several hours ago?
I think there are a lot of good indie games to try.

@Kermit1 Top 10 would probably be (in no particular order):

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Astral Chain
  • Mario Party Superstars
  • 3D World + Bowser's Fury
  • DKC Tropical Freeze
  • Skyward Sword HD
  • Fire Emblem Three Houses
  • Metroid Dread

I'd imagine Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and maybe Three Hopes enters the top 10 out of this year's remaining known lineup.

Solaine

I keep hearing about Three Hopes being a high contender for top 10's in this thread and i can't really understand. What makes you hype so much about that game being that different to Age of calamity, fire emblem warriors or Hyrule Warriors? It is just another Warriors game

@Solaine I think the best way of describing Three Hopes is a massive Three Houses expansion which has been adapted to include Warriors gameplay and it has a smooth framerate. As for the others:

  • Hyrule Warriors is a celebration of Zelda through Warriors gameplay (Definitive Edition is in my top 15 Switch games)
  • Fire Emblem Warriors acted as a celebration of Fire Emblem through Warriors gameplay though focuses way too heavily on Awakening and Fates so doesn't really succeed as a celebration of Fire Emblem
  • Age of Calamity while acting as an alternate reality prequel for BotW, it's really unstable quite a lot of the time (this game was the first Nintendo published release that strongly suggested the existence of some kind of more powerful Switch)

Favorite Switch games?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Triangle Strategy
Valkyria Chronicles 4

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 + Torna: The Golden Country

I'm pretty comfortable with that list.

Not including retro ports of any kind since they’re technically old games(As much as I love them) with the exception of Wii U.

@WaveBoy Most 'ports' of old games feature QoL changes to help make them more palatable on modern platforms, though. If you look at the retro games and collections on Switch, most feature changes that make them a better experience on this platform than they would originally have been back in the day.

I guess for you, then dividing line is the introduction of HD resolutions, rumble, and whatnot?

  • Zelda: Link's Awakening
  • Final Fantasy X HD
  • SMTV
  • Metroid Dread
  • YS VIII
  • Astral Chain

I could probably name a few others as well, the system is just full of top shelf software.

You guys read about Billy Kametz, the voice actor of Ferdinand in Fire Emblem Three Houses, dying at age 35 of colon cancer?

Sad. Per NintendoEverything,

he played Ferdinand Von Aegir in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Blue in Pokemon Masters. Most recently, he was Jerrom Laesmi in Triangle Strategy, and he also voiced Ogata in 13 Sentinals: Aegis Rim. In the anime scene, he had roles with the likes of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

@WaveBoy The Mega Man Legacy Collections feature unique gameplay modes. They actually add content. Which is a bigger improvement than HD rumble ever was, IMO.

Anyway, my point was almost all old games feature some improvements when they're brought to modern systems, whether it's increasing the resolution, adding new modes or trophy support, adding rumble, adding controller customization functionality, etc. They're still generally old games that play nearly identically to how they used to, though. Unless it's clearly a remake, or has been substantially altered in the process of being ported, I don't think there's a clean line to be drawn in this regard.

@JaxonH Dying of cancer at any age is sad, but doing so at the young age of 35 is especially tragic.

Unfortunately, the universe doesn't care about 'should's and 'ought's, so we just play the best hand we can with the cards we're given. And considering he already has a legacy to leave behind, it seems like he was doing that to the best of his ability.

LG G1 OLED 4KTV 55" is on sale on Amazon for $1296.99

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08WF8W39N?

To put that in perspective, the C1 (which is the base model most people buy) had MSRP of $1500. I got mine for $1300 on sale.

This is essentially that, but the G1 model instead, which is a higher tier model with slightly better brightness than the C1.

Anyone looking to jump into OLED, this is a good deal. They also have the 65" G1 for $1797.99

It has 4 separate HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4k 120fps, VRR (variable refresh rate, so if you have PS5, XS or PC you don't notice frame dips as the screen refresh rate changes to match the game), eARC for soundbars, and some of the best picture quality I've ever seen. The black frame insertion option helps games feel smoother too. I keep it on low because otherwise it makes the picture too dim, but it helps 30fps games feel that much more smooth.

@WaveBoy
I plan to upgrade to QD-OLED in about 5 yrs, after I've gotten good use out of my C1. And that'll give time for the technology to evolve first, and prices to come down. Maybe we'll see new tech breakthrough by then as well.

But for the time being, I'm more than satisfied with the C1.

I heartily recommend the 800S, paired with a Creative G6 DAC/AMP to make it compatible with Switch, PS5 and PC. Just run USB to a 4 port switcher and change the input depending on the device being used.

Tbh though, I don't use my headphones much now, as the Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar + SVS-1000 Pro subwoofer just sounds so dang good. Even stereo audio signals sound incredible with the full Ambeo boost effect enabled, on the "Movie" setting with custom edited values.

I'm this close to ordering another just to store in the closet in case they stop selling them one day.

Sorry to hear it. My mother had colon cancer, but had it removed via surgery. It then came back again 2 yrs later, but was once again removed via surgery. 10 yrs now cancer free.

Saw on the news a few days ago a new cancer monoclonal antibody trial has a 100% success rate with every single patient in the trial going into remission after 6 months. Biggest breakthrough I've seen in my lifetime.
