Ok I know NL needs that sweet ad revenue but the front page articles are going off the deep end. I think I’ll hang out here for a bit.

Voice of Cards has some more game play. This time beyond the demo. I’m still on the fence as I don’t know if I will like the new player party. (Ash seems like a jerk. )

Just got to the end boss in Metroid. It's definitely my favorite 2D Metroid, and 2nd favorite Metroid overall (2nd only to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes).

@Grumblevolcano
Slowdown feature helps. Don't hesitate to use it as needed. Also unlocking jump helps.

The games are too hard without it in the latter portions, but with it, it becomes super satisfying difficulty.

@Buizel
Its a multifaceted issue, obviously. What makes it worse is, everyone is so convinced they're right nowadays and couldn't possibly be wrong or led astray by misinformation or agendas, they have absolutely zero tolerance for diverging opinions. When you convince yourself sunlight shines through your sphincter you start to believe anyone with a different opinion is blind, dumb and stupid. Because obviously if they had any sense they'd agree with everything Almighty Sun-Sphincter says. This results in anger and frustration toward everyone else for being so stupid as to not agree.

But it's also ppl who thrive off controversy, and jump at any opportunity to stoke the flames. I see it in how headlines and YT videos are titled- the fix is already in. There's no nuanced conversation and a willingness to discuss, learn and amend opinions as needed- there's only the narrative, and preaching that narrative. There's no, "inform you of the facts, let you decide" anymore. It's all rage bait.

Reddit is a lost cause. Article comments here and elsewhere are a lost cause. Social media is a lost cause. This forum is the only place I've ever found where most of that stuff is left at the door (for the most part). It's the one place I can have discussions with others who disagree and we don't end up hating each other for it afterward.

@Ralizah
Ya it's definitely not a game that I think warrants prioritizing. But I'll definitely keep an eye on the reviews.

@HotGoomba
It's fine. I'm just saying that "justified" can look really different between different players.

I'm playing Ocarina on NSO and frankly haven't had any issues with it.

@BrazillianCara
Same thing. I think it's fine, but that's my experience with Ocarina so far. I haven't played any of the other games yet. I'm enjoying it. It hasn't been disappointing to me.

With all the care bear hugging going around, can someone please ask Jaxon to unblock me if he still has me blocked? Lol

@JaxonH @gcunit I haven’t tried any yet as it went live at 2am over here and I’m now at work. But there’s been reported videos of the delay on social media (so yeah take with a pinch of salt) but regards to the fog, it may not be important but I do think it hides the ugliness of that water texture

Wow, that's ugly. Switch is not just missing the atmospheric fog but also the water reflections.

The atmospheric fog is also gone in Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64 which makes stuff visible you aren't supposed to see.

I also hate the borders (not just in N64 but all NSO systems).

I thought official N64 emulation couldn't be worse than on Wii U with its lag and dark shade.

It seems Wii VC was the best emulation for N64 games so far and it got worse each generation.

Everything I've read suggests to me Wii U is still obviously worse. This seems to have specific and (partially subjective) control issues, input delay for 2 games that's only noticible to very specific hardcore players, and exactly two areas for OOT's visuals (literally no one has shown a 3rd example of graphical issues AFAIK). Whereas Wii U VC's issues are...the whole service.

They should still obviously fix them but it seems clear to me this on average is still better than what we had previously (I've also heard people suggest that outside of Mario 64 and OOT that the games play better than either VC versions)

Basically how I feel.

They're not perfect. There's certainly a few issues here and there, but nothing major. Hopefully they'll fix the niggles of emulation, but overall they're pretty good. I'm not gonna get in a tizzy over a water reflection in one game or fog. Obviously it would be best if they patched it and I hope they do, but it's not really something I would have noticed it weren't for ppl plastering it all over the internet.

Well, they fixed input lag (like in F-ZERO X for Wii U) with updates, and the dark shade isn't very noticable since you don't have an ugly border like on the Switch.

But yeah, none of the N64 emulations were perfect. Wii was very close.
And on Wii U N64 games were updated to high res and 60Hz.

And on Switch? Halfbaked online, no option to deactivate the borders, and a weird emulator that is in some ways just as bad as the inofficial stuff on PC. There's nothing to defend here.

So can I just say that I absolutely HATE applying screen protectors?? I just wasted an entire three pack of protectors for my OLED because I can't get it or the adhesive side of the protector to stay dust free when applying it.

And the one I bought is now out of stock with no word on when it will be back in stock.

Ugggghhhhhhhh.

This is the 2nd time in 2 days that I found out a modern Nintendo re-release was given updates, and I never would've known if not for a person randomly on the internet saying it. Yesterday I was told that apparently SNES NSO input lag was improved since launch for I believe Panel de Pon. I had never heard of this and I'm not sure it ever made news anywhere or was ever directly stated by Nintendo in any way. It's so weird.

@IceClimbers yeah I gave up on screen protectors after the first two attempts trying to apply them because of the same issue. Beyond that I've never been a fan of the way they look, and have just grown to accept that even if I take good care of my electronics they are bound to get a few scratches here and there.

@IceClimbers
May I offer some tips as someone who has been there (believe me, I've had to go through it for v1 Switch, two v2 Switches, Switch Lite, OLED, and my brother's v1, Lite and OLED).

Some of this you'll likely know, but not everything. And since Idk what you do and don't know, I'll give the entire rundown.

  • Steam shower and wash hair
  • get glass, screen cloth and scotch tape
  • wipe screen clean as a whistle, then take scotch tape and dap the screen over and over covering every square inch to pick up dust
  • dab glass on both sides with scotch tape (before removing film) to ensure no dust on it falls onto screen or gets blown onto sticky side when removing film
  • once you're sure glass on both sides is super clean, give screen one final pass, looking at different angles in the light, dabbing any new dust with tape
  • with glass in left hand and scotch tape piece in right hand, as soon as you dab the final dust on the screen and are 100% confident it's flawless, immediately stick tape to counter, grab film and peel quickly, throwing it on the ground (no time for orderliness at this juncture) then align over screen at a tilt, centering side, then carefully dropping onto screen
  • the moment the glass is dropped, run your finger across the middle lengthwise, to ensure air works it's way to the top and btm edges
  • Here's the REAL trick- if by chance upon inspection you notice any hair or dust under the screen, all is not lost. Get scotch tape piece stuck to right pointer finger, then carefully peel the glass up, then dab any dust on the screen with tape while holding the glass (adhesive side down to minimize falling dust clinging to it), then dab the sticky side of the glass with tape all over while holding it, every square inch
  • after dabbing both screen and sticky side of glass, re-apply using same technique from above
  • I once did this FOUR TIMES with the same glass until I eventually got it perfect.

@JaxonH Thanks for the tips!!

Also I haven't done the system transfer yet. How does it work if I'm wanting to still use my original v1 Switch as a docked only system??

There’s a Metroid Dread demo out. If you haven’t played this incredible game, there’s no excuse now.

Also… I LOVE DONKEY KONG COUNTRY: TROPICAL FREEZE. Oh my gosh do I love it! Gameplay perfection! Music is incredible! Level design is immaculate! Enemy designs charming as they come… this game. This freaking game.

A salute to the greatest 2D platformer of all time

  • fully undress
  • slather body in oil
  • perform dance ritual
  • click heels 3 times for luck
  • apply screen protector
  • record it all on video and upload a YT tutorial

@IceClimbers
When you set up the system it’ll ask if you already have a Nintendo account. If so, it’ll ask if you still want to use the old system. If so, it won’t transfer your save data.

What I would do is set it up and sign in with existing account, say you still want to use other system, then redownload your purchased games from the eShop, and use cloud saves to get your save data across without losing it on the other system. In settings > data management you will see a cloud save option if you want to just go down the list and download everything rapid fire. Or, you can do it from each downloaded game’s icon with the + button > save data cloud > download save data as you download them.

For any games that don’t qualify for cloud saves, use a manual save transfer (+ menu on game’s icon > manage software > transfer your save data. Exceptions to that are Animal Crossing (use save transfer tool) and Trials Rising, which doesn’t use cloud saves and can’t be transferred (only possible in a full profile transfer, but that game is so insanely fun I just replayed it every time I got a new system, 3 times in total, and will do it again on the OLED).

Then you’ll have to decide which Switch is your primary system. By default your other one will be your primary, which means your new one will need to connect to the Internet anytime you launch a game to make sure you’re not playing the same game on your primary system. If you’re going to leave the other system docked it might be better to make that your secondary system since it will always have access to the Internet.

To switch primary systems, you can deactivate your old Switch as being “primary” from the eShop account settings page. Select “deactivate this console as your primary system”. You’ll probably have to enter your password. After you do this, the next system that launches the eShop becomes the primary system. So just launch eShop on the OLED and that’s it, you’re golden.

@JaxonH Thanks for the help!!

I gotta say that when I opened up my OLED the improvement in build quality over the v1 Switch was immediately noticeable. Maybe it's just because it's brand new but it feels a lot sturdier.

Oh, and upon booting it up? The vibrancy of the screen and the enhanced audio were clear. Loving the OLED already!
