@Slowdive I’m not expecting any surprises regarding anything coming to the Switch outside what we already know. It seems Sony are really spending big on getting the exclusives/times exclusives with Square Enix.

@Slowdive Read the replies to that tweet and need to lie down.

One says it cant be Square Enix because they arent a publisher.

Another said its not Square Enix because they ARE a publisher and the leak is from a developer, despite the original tweet saying Publisher.

I need to lie down.

That'd be an odd title, though, @Slowdive .... Was that from the actual interview? I thought he'd just said there was something FF, other than XVI or VII Remake related?

I mean, just about anything FF related will be exciting to me, anyway, @Slowdive .... It must be the same thing that was definitely mentioned in an interview, too, so we'll find out soon enough just what it is! I'd certainly be up for a Nioh/ Dark Souls/ FF combination

I'm not very familiar with Metroid, @Grumblevolcano .... But if FF wants to crossover with it, that might be cool! Compilation of older FFs isn't much use to me, with all the ones on Steam & Android but it'd be great for that to come, too, @Slowdive

Particularly if we get the Complete Collection for IV, @Slowdive .... That'd be worth getting for me! We'll see

There's rumored to be a Final Fantasy compilation coming, with the older, sprite-based titles. Something I personally hoped for since day-one. Hopefully Switch-bound too.

Now this would be really cool.

Isn't that the regular price on Steam for it though, @Slowdive....? I got it on a good sale there, so not sure exactly but I think so

An interview with Giles Goddard has popped on YouTube, he talks about his time working with Ninty since the 90s.

There’s a few tidbits I found interesting like Tank Troopers was meant to have a multiplayer mode and be ported to Switch, how Ninty has changed their ways working with other companies and creating the stretchy face in Mario 64.

@Slowdive 60 bucks? What a joke. You can easily find PS4 version for like 20 bucks.

People almost always speak without researching first. Vast majority of times people say, “you can get that so much cheaper on Steam“, Then I go check Steam and it’s full price, or even more expensive than Switch.

The game comes with all the DLC, and, it’s never released on the Nintendo switch platform. You’re not gonna get an orange clearance sticker price for a reasonably recent game (it’s not some N64 game from 25 years ago) that’s never released on the platform before. I wish schools would teach basic economics but you don’t learn that until college unfortunately, even then it’s not a core class.

Prices drop to increase quantity demanded as needed. On a new platform, especially one that offers an exclusive hybrid handheld version, demand is through the roof. Prices don’t drop out of charity or morality, they drop as an economic function to increase quantity demanded as demand is satiated in the market. There’s no question a lower price would increase demand, but is it needed? Clearly they don’t think so, though judging by the fact it’s $80 on both Steam and PS Store, they’re selling at a discount as is.

You might be able to grab physical for $20-30, but then you’ve still got to buy the season pass and all the extra DLC, which isn’t on sale or physical, so you’d still end up spending almost the same amount. Maybe $10 less. And miss out on 50% of the value of getting a handheld hybrid version bundled in with the console version.

At the end of the day, if you see a game for less that released somewhere else first, And you think that’s a better buy, then that’s what you should buy. But if you waited 3 years just to save $10, why not wait 3 years for the Switch version to drop. Then you can save well over $10 and get twice the value with the hybrid version. Win win. People always want to compare day one Switch prices to 3 year old prices elsewhere. Like, the only reason those prices are lower are because you waited 3 years for them to drop. So it’s an unfair comparison to not likewise wait for Switch to drop too. Although all that’s moot anyways because the game’s actually $20 cheaper on Switch.

Asking; who is excited for the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary livestream on the 26/27th? I can’t wait, because I’m a fan of the series, I really loved the games I’ve played, and it feels like they’re putting in effort for this one.

Besides, the next mainline Dragon Quest title? Awwwww YEEEEEES!

@Slowdive No, I don’t go actively hunting rumours like you! But that would give me very strong incentive to get into those games, because if this does exist there’s zero doubt it’ll be releasing on Switch as well. Apart from that it looks like usual service down at Square Enix. Only two days to go until we see Dragon Quest’s 35 Anniversary plans though!

@VoidofLight You mentioned your thoughts on Dragon Quest XI; why do you think it is generic? Is it the world design, the story, the characters, or all of them?

@TheJGG The story is a basic JRPG story from what I remembered. Gotta collect the treasures of the elements to defeat a dark lord who's hellbent on destroying the world itself. The music itself is also pretty bad, but I played the ps4 release of the game, and I heard the switch release has better music. It just sort of felt generic overall compared to other JRPG's I've played. I guess it's good for those who want more in terms of classic rpg games, or grew up with these sorts of rpgs, but for me.. I'd rather just play games like Final Fantasy, Xenoblade, Nier, or other RPGs which do a bit more than the basics in terms of their story.

Edit: I do enjoy Dragon Quest Builders though, but that's just because of it being something entirely different, and not just a straight up rpg. It's more if you cross a RPG with a Voxel building game.

@Slowdive I can’t realistically expect much more in terms of games, when we have then next mainline game being shown. It’s been in development for a bit so it could come out within the next eighteen months if things go smooth. Maybe 7-9 collection then? I remember hearing a lot about how good IX was so maybe remastering it à la Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance can be cool.

@VoidofLight Yeah I can totally see your view. I bought the game on Switch so a lot of the issues you had simply didn’t exist for me. The music was just fine, if you paid me a thousand dollars to keep the setting on MIDI music I still wouldn’t do it. Orchestral is that good. I wrote a lengthy piece a year back stating how Dragon Quest XI’s music was very derivative of past titles, so while the overall package is alright I dock points for lack of originality.

I’d argue the story is old and new. It’s surprising how deep it can go at times but it has such an anime feel to it. Every area you go to is like another episode and throughout the first half of the game (which is already very long) you uncover the mysteries, like Mordegon’s name. I think the voice acting in English is one of the greatest works I’ve ever listened to in a video game, it feels so complete, no lines are mis-interpreted or mis-said.

Aside from the story and maybe the combat I wouldn’t say it’s generic though. But it’s by no means a game that takes risks so I’d label it as comfort food JRPG. But that doesn’t make it a bad game. Of course it didn’t help you got it on PlayStation!

Heh, although FFIX hardly needs it, @TheJGG .... If they wanted to, there's a mod for PC version that basically does that, so they might be able to pay the person to put that officially in the game on consoles!
I'll have the DQ IV-VI collection, VIII & IX, as I'd love to replay that, too, for my Switch, please, @Slowdive! I'm not interested in the mmo Japan only entry, so I'd love them to also announce XII coming (hopefully) next year

@TheJGG With the DQ 35th Anniversary presentation being the first time it's being subbed for international audiences, I'm hoping we're finally getting a western release for DQ X. But chances are it's for the worldwide simultaneous release for Dragon Quest Dai Adventures.
