Yeah, I do wonder how they plan to do it, @Slowdive.... Still, it'll be interesting to see more on it! If it does well, perhaps theyll go onto Rear Window, The Birds & Rebecca?
Wonder no more: endless runner with micro transactions and a stamina mechanic. That or metroidvania (this is always highly likely for any game newly announced).
Taking things like old Alfred Hitchcock films and adapting them into games? Nice to see we’re finally at a place where the notion of what games are and what they should be has expanded to include such things.
Idk if it’ll be good or not. That comes down to the developers and the execution. But it’s like, ya. I remember when films finally started adapting great books like The Lord of the Rings. I told my ex wife’s father back when I was like 18 yrs old, if they ever decided to turn those books into a movie it would be incredible. Now video games are starting to leverage books and films much more frequently. It’s good to see.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
There's a greater than zero chance they'll license the U2 song of the same name.
I don't think that's inherently a bad idea, but I will say that trailer looked exactly what I expected a trailer of a video game version of Vertigo to look like. Though to be fair, without gameplay, I have no idea how I, nor anyone, would put out a teaser trailer for this.
@JaxonH Hollywood has always looked to books for movies ideas. Jaws, Bond, Lawrence of Arabia, Sherlock Holmes etc beat Lords Of The Rings by decades.
Personally I don’t think a good book/movie/game means it will be good in a different media, there’s been way too many rubbish movie tie ins to trust a game based on movie will be good. I remember when one of my favourite books Ask The Dusk was turned into a movie, it was fine and not bad but it’s far from my favourite movie, of course there are occasions when both the book and movie are great like Fight Club.
I mean the problem with the majority of movie based games is that they're usually made to basically just to capitalize on the movie's presumed relevance as it enters theaters (while also being an ad for the movie merely by existing). So they're usually made to be released around when the movie is, which doesn't often work out well.
@Slowdive I really liked Dark Fate, it was as good as the first two up until Arnie shows up and then a weird tonal shift happens and you have to listen to to jokes about decorating.
Even if the developers are given the time and resources for an adaptation more often or not it still tends to be a dud like the recent Avengers which missed the hype of Endgame and came out poorly. Of courses there’s exceptions but it very much feels the norm to not expect much especially something which requires good writing as let’s face it the general standard of writing in game isn’t of high quality.
Finally winding down in Monster Hunter Rise. My save file says 450 hours. That’s pretty incredible given I got 600 in MH3U, an ultimate version with G rank, I got 400 hrs from MH4U, another ultimate version with G rank, 400 from MH Generations, and 400 from MHGU, though I haven’t nearly done everything there is to do, and 400 in MHW + Iceborne.
What makes it most impressive is how streamlined everything is, which makes the game go by faster (but at a higher quality of experience). It’s just so fun to play, that despite having completed every single quest in the game, every scroll found, every creature photographed, I’m still playing just for fun. Was tempted to go for all the awards on the guild card but there’s no way I’m going to get a gold crown for every monster in the game, both for largest and smallest. That’s insane.
Been toying with the idea of going back to MHGU since I’ve barely done half the quests in the game. There’s a lot of monsters I haven’t even fought, like White Fatalis. I’ve also been toying with the idea of going back to Monster Hunter World Iceborne. But it’s so hard letting go of Rise.
Mario Golf needs to hurry up and release so I have something new to play until Monster Hunter Stories 2, Neo TWEWY, Zelda Skyward Sword, Ys IX, Tony Hawk PS 1/2 and Ni No Kuni 2.
I just wonder why there were so many upcoming Switch games for year 2021 got physical but with code in box ?
Are the developers started to get lazy with cartridge release due to cost of cartridge price, left the code in box but still release the PS4 version in disc ?
@Magician
I am casual gamer too but really want physical games. Not every casual gamers don't care with physical release.
I just don't understand the different treatment for the same games (Code in Box for Switch but Physical disc for PS4 or Physical for Japan version but Code in Box for USA / PAL version)
@Anti-Matter Not everyone wants physical games. I for example downloaded a ton of games in the last three years because of terrible import prices. It costs $100 US to buy a normal Switch game in the country I moved away from last year. Some people don't like carts and may fear losing them. Some may have microSD cards lasting for decades...
@TheJGG
Wow, $100 for a Switch game ?! 😲
Where do you live currently ?
Here in Indonesia, there are a lot of online / retail shop that sell the games with very reasonable price.
I always hunt old games from Tokopedia (like Ebay but in Indonesia) and potentially I got very cheap prices old games.
If the games are not available from Tokopedia, I ordered the games from Ebay / playasia with help of my friend (he ordered the games, I just only paid him)
@Anti-Matter I was referring to Kenya, but I don't live there anymore. The currency is quite weak, and import prices are stupid, so paying a hundred bucks for a game is so embarrassing that I wouldn't even consider it. I was in England for six months during COVID last year and it was much better, because I could use Amazon to get physical games delivered to me for free. It felt like a luxury but really it's a normality.
Outside of Switch, physical games are already pretty much extinct. What PS4/Xbone/Series X/PS5 have are installer discs, and the discs also act as physical DRM so that you can't play the installed digital game without a plastic disc inserted.
@Anti-Matter What upcoming Switch physical games are 'code in a box' releases? I'm not doubting your claim, but I just don't encounter them very much.
Use that playasia link and you will notice some of Switch games are Code in Box, mostly the obscure casual games.
I was surprised Taiko no Tatsujin got Code in Box treatment for PAL version but physical cartridge for Japan version.
@Ralizah
Yea, I remember being pretty ticked off when I first bought a disc for my PS4 and had to install the darn thing anyway. I only bought a PS4 well into the lifecycle because it was on huge discount and I'd always wanted to see what the fuss was about with Last of Us (ended up being one my favorite games, honestly).
I've stayed physical with my Switch, but honestly I think I'll go digital for whatever is next. Usually it's not too bad because I mostly stick to the big games, but even the ordering/finding of physical games can sometimes be a pain. And with Covid I was pretty careful and didn't feel safe walking into stores until recently, so many times I would have to order the game online and wait a week or so for it to come in the mail. Instant digital seems pretty nice when you're waiting days for a game to be shipped lol
@rallydefault If you're in the U.S., I've found that Best Buy is really good about getting pre-orders to me on time.
But yeah, if you're not going to resell it and/or don't care about the collecting aspect of physical games, then just downloading stuff is definitely more convenient. Especially considering how many games requires patches/day one updates to function properly anyway.
