@JaxonH @Magician I like GTA but not massively so, I would love some Red Dead and Max Payne although I imagine I'm in the minority though. I'd laugh if they did remasters of Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley just for the Switch.

Maybe, it's too early to tell. Nintendo does a fairly good job of keeping the file size of their games below 16 GB. They themselves have yet to use 32 GB cartridges, never mind 64 GB cartridge. And besides, I think the combined file size of GTA V and GTA Online is over 100 GB at the moment. Even a 64 GB may be beyond consideration.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@Magician Their data compression and technical mastery of the Switch hardware is very interesting. Breath of the Wild was an absolutely huge game yet it only took up 15.5GB plus DLC.

GTAV may be that large on other platforms, but on Switch it would be smaller. They could fit the base game on a 32gb cart with a download for the online MP component.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I always keep reading about all these glowing recommendations for 8bitdo controllers, but I bought a SF30 Pro a few years back and think it's absolute rubbish. The d-pad must be one of the worst ever made, even though that's the main reason I wanted one in the first place..

I've seen some fixes on the internet, where you have to remove the d-pad and place some stickers over the "dead-zones", but I don't have the correct screwdriver to open it. Plus it's obviously complete nonsense that you would need to fix a controller you just bought. Definitely the first and last time I've ever bought an 8bitdo product.

Trails of Cold Steel IV is out, and while I only dipped my toes in due to Monster Hunter Rise, and the fact I want to finish Trails of Cold Steel III before jumping in, it's a really high quality port and looks even better than TOCS3 did on Switch.

Highly recommend these games. There's a story summary included but I'd say start with TOCS3 rather than TOCS4, which is what I did. There's still a summary for the first two games but it's actually a good intermission point with major plot points of the first two wrapped up.

Although my wireless Mega Drive controllers from 8BitDo are great. But on the Switch I play with an official Pro controller. I didn't even know 8BitDo was producing Switch controllers when I bought the console.

Since January 2021 owner of my first real Nintendo "home" console.

@Monkeido
I'm sticking with the first-party Pro controller. I don't own any 8bitdo controllers, but I've held them and they definitely feel a bit cheaper. I know they're lighter because they don't have some of the tech the Pro controller has, but they just have that general "yea, this is 3rd-party hardware" feel to them that has always warded me away from non-Nintendo controllers. The sticks feel skinnier and "snappier" (in a bad way) against the confines, and the plastic reminds me of a snapped-together Xbox controller skin.

I'm pretty happy with my SN30 Pro+. The D-pad on this one is amazing. Great for playing retro games.

Are you guys sometimes surprised, which games have a lot of replay value and which don't?

E.g. I loved Mario + Rabbids and thought the mission structure would give it loads of replayability. BotW on the other hand I loved because of the exploration and mystery of not knowing what's behind the next mountain, so I expected it to loose its magic in subsequent play throughs.

I recently played both of them again and the opposite turned out to be the case: M+R was so boring the second time that I quit half way through, whereas BotW was a pure joy to play again and I enjoyed some parts of it even more than the first time (although it did loose some of its magic).

Do you have examples of game that surprised you in their replay value?

@JaxonH Hopefully the quality of the ToCS ports bode well for the Switch port of Ys IX. LOVED Ys VIII, but the actual quality of the port was... pretty rough at times.

@Monkeido I bought 8bitdo's M30, and it has worked beautifully for me for quite a long time. I'll absolutely vouch for it.

Do any of you think the PS3/PSP/PS Vita store shutdowns will increase the chance of some of those games coming to other platforms to preserve the games? So like ToCS 1 and 2 being localized for Switch to have the whole franchise on the Switch.

@dionysos283 Breath of the Wild didn't surprise me with the fact that it had replay value. It surprised me that I was able to get literally ten times more hours out of it before I started getting bored. Took me thirty hours to beat the game and I'm at 355.

Xenoblade Definitive Edition too, it's the most played game I have on Switch. The quest tracker mechanic makes it a lot easier.

I would like to see Reality Fighters from PS VITA get ported to Nintendo Switch with some changes so i don't need to buy PS VITA as for me PS VITA has no games for my taste.

I tend to get more replay fun out of games that have more finite and achievable completion goals for second and third playthroughs. Luigi's Mansion 3, for example, was a very fun experience to get play again to get 100% of everything. The gems and Boos and all that wasn't too much beyond the normal playing route, but still a mindful investment. Origami King was soooo much fun to play again not only to notice the little things but to challenge myself to get 100%. It took quite a bit of effort (and even skill for some of the challenges like the river ride) and time, but it was still achievable for someone who loves the game.

BotW, for me, just is not fun to replay, even if you're just doing it for fun and not at all trying to find everything or do everything. BotW will always be one of the better one-off gaming experiences I've had, but I've tried numerous times to play it again and I just can't get more than a couple hours in (my original file has well over 100 hours).
