@JaxonH@Ralizah It's always been the weakest market, but it's been down to a few factors.
For the NES and SNES less so, it was because at that time the UK games scene was all PC. I mean all of it. Amstrad, Spectrum, Commodore....even early home computers was where gaming was back then.
What helped Playstation take off here was simple aggression, and timing as home computers in that style faded out.
I imagine even if they tried, Nintendo wouldn't have had a chance anyway. Heck, you look at their launch prices for the systems here, they were pretty competitive.
NES - £79..99
SNES - £150
N64 - £249.99/ PS1 - £299.99
GameCube - £129/ PS2 - £299.99/ Xbox - £300
Wii - £179/ PS3 - £425/ Xbox360 - £209.99
Wii U - £300/ PS4 - £349.99/ Xbox One - £429
Switch - £280/ PS5 - £359.99(£449.99)/ Xbox Series - £250/£450
So even here, Nintendo has always, in the Gamecube days massively, been cheaper. Yet even that didn't help.
So part of this is because, and I can attest this growing up, there is a culture thing here. Especially for someone my age, growing up through the 2000s, you were bullied for owning anything that didn't give you GTA, FIFA or CoD. It was that simple. Dunno how it is for kids these days, but back then? Yeah you had to be grown up with games.
I do also remember on the Switch launch day here, GAME (Basically our only dedicated games retailer) was told by Sony to cut the price of the PS4 for a day, and given the state they were in, and Sony's, lets be honest, total monopoly at the time, they did.
I also recall a certain Jim Ryan once saying how in his eyes, Sony losing any market share to anyone is a failure, especially in Europe.
Nintendo's status here is a weird one. It's a mix of our pre-existing culture with PC games, the attitudes of the gaming generation at the time, and Sony being Sony.
I'm glad it's starting to change because for a very long time, this was a two horse race here in the UK, and that made getting Nintendo games surprisingly hard. Heck, most SNES games didnt get European releases
The UK is actually estimated to be the 6th biggest market, after Germany, Korea, Japan, the USA and China. So sales here could tend to be indicative of wider markets, mainly a good idea for a look at Europe though.
But the UK sales charts are also anomalous in that FIFA, GTA5, your yearly CoD and a couple shooters + big notable title from Sony for the year are what makes up the bulk of the charts.

@Grumblevolcano A patch is a bandaid on a bullet hole, the game isn't just buggy and unpolished, but poorly designed and not fun to play. It couldn't be salvaged without a delay, maybe even a Metroid Prime 4-esque reboot.
@Magician I'm convinced, much like those talks of DQHeroes getting localised on Switch, it was either bogus speculation, or fell through at some stage.

That could be for Xenoblade 3... But it could equally be for the fantasy type game they teased (which itself could have possibly been a new Xenoblade, but it didn’t look that way). The author is making the assumption it’s for Xenoblade 3 without considering any other possibility.

@JaxonH Monolith Soft new game is problaby that fantasy game they teased in that concept art, the game is problaby close to conpletion and is ready for it release/reveal.
@Giancarlothomaz MH World: 5 million shipped in 3 days across 2 platforms MH Rise: 4 million shipped in 3 days on 1 platform
It’s also being said the JP physical-only opening week sales (for first 2 days tracked) will break Animal Crossing’s record at around 1.8 million. Compare to MH4U at 1.45 million and MH World at 1.35 million.

@JaxonH i see, so Monster Hunter Rise have a chance of become the Switch best selling third party game and the franchise second best/highest selling game?
FE1 localization has re-entered the UK eshop charts for the first time since December because of the delisting (currently at 25th). 3D All Stars is at 9th being high up again because of the delisting. Meanwhile SMB35 is 2nd in the free games rankings (only behind Apex Legends).
@Giancarlothomaz
It's already the best selling 3rd party game. Just from launch sales alone.
It for sure will be the 2nd best selling MH of all time. I don't think it'll top World's sales... but it's gonna come reasonably close despite only being Switch and, later on, PC. I think it'll do 8 million on Switch alone once everything is said and done. Usually games manage to double their launch numbers over time.
IF the PC release can also do 6 million like it did for World, we could see comparable sales to World (14m vs 16m).
But at the very worst, we can expect MH Rise to do 12 million across Switch and PC. Which, even that is flipping phenomenal, and will ensure hybrid portable MH games continue for generations to come.

@JaxonH Dang, I remember people in this thread saying MH Rise would probably be between 2-3 mil in sales and other people suggesting that was to optimistic. This game could easily break 10 mil lifetime as a third party Nintendo game, that's basically unheard of.
I swear people on this forum spend more time looking at chart postions and project their own sales estimates than actually playing and talking about games ;p
I do think it's a very good thing that Nintendo Life is constantly warning people about the delisting though and I hope Push Square does the same if Sony officially announces the closure of the PS3/PSP/Vita stores that has been heavily rumoured recently. A huge shame it has to happen in the first place.
@link3710
For sure. The game was never going to just do 2-3 million. Even previous 3DS entries did more than that. And every other NSW game I’m aware of has outperformed corresponding 3DS entries. So it had a floor of 5m, bare minimum. My estimate was 7m. Which I think is going to be pretty close when everything is said and done. It does seem it’s going to do a little better than I had anticipated which is fantastic news. And who knows, If it continues going viral and selling with long legs, it very well could break 10m on Switch. I still think that’s a bit of a longshot, but it’s starting to seem as if it’s actually possible.
@jump
I assume you’re referring to me, but given I put 40 hours into the demo alone and already another 20 into the game, while I’ve only spent maybe 3 minutes talking about sales. ya... that’s just not true... at all.
And it doesn’t take looking at charts. It’s making headlines on all the news sites, and it’s relevant news to discuss. Everyone talked about MH World’s massive success when that game released- we’re not going to suddenly ignore MH Rise now.
