@rallydefault I've thought they should do the same thing since the NES Mini came out, that they all should be able to connect to a retro shop to expand the library on them. I guess the flip side of that would be they'd have to produce them in bigger numbers and for a lot longer than they did to warrant having a shop for them.

@Shadowthrone
Yea, I thought the same thing. They did seem pretty set on only producing a certain number of the consoles. But why? Do they not like money? And the file sizes for these old NES/GameBoy/SNES games are teeny tiny; they wouldn't be hosting a lot of data, but obviously there are baseline server costs no matter what you're hosting. Nintendo would have to work out if it was worth it for them or not, especially if they'd only charge a buck or two per game.

The other thing is that they've muddied the waters with NSO and their NES/SNES offerings. I have the NES mini, but most of those games are on my Switch through NSO. So they've kinda locked themselves into Switch being the place to go for continued retro support and the classic consoles are relegated to only having the set of games they came with, which I think was a huge missed opportunity. They could have had a nice little side gig going with retro consoles and a dedicated retro eShop.

@Duboiss Has there been any signaling about a possible Mario + Rabbids sequel? I'd LOVE another one, but I think most of us just assume the game was a one-off thing.

In a Reddit AMA, when Soliani was asked about his interest in making a sequel, he replied:

I would love to, and I would be honored to 🙂

Obviously this isn’t confirmation of anything. Ubisoft may have had other plans for his studio. But the fact it seems he’s really interested in doing it is promising. I would research clues or leaks for what his studio has been working on. I don’t know the name of his studio but I’m sure there’s something floating around on the Internet out there.

@JaxonH He works for Ubisoft Milan. They're doing another one. It took a while to get green lit, though, so not sure how far along it is

@Giancarlothomaz I wouldn't rule it out. Microsoft does publish some games on Switch where the audience makes sense, including Ori and (of course) Minecraft. Banjo on Switch would certainly be a success.

But I'd rather it's the HD versions available on Xbox, rather than N64 ports.

Anyone else feel like Odyssey is the least replayable mainline Mario game. Like the other Mario games even though I've already beaten them I feel like replaying them at some point after I've completed them. Even 3D Land which I find to be the worst 3D Mario, I did feel like replaying it a few years after I beat it but with Odyssey I don't feel like returning back to at all unless more free updates or some DLC appeared which is very unlikely given Bowser's Fury is essentially Odyssey DLC but tacked onto 3D World to convince Wii U owners to double dip.

Hard to say. I don’t really have the desire to replay it yet. But I could see it being less appealing on a second run, if you know where a lot of the moons are. Whereas 3D World is just skill based platforming so I’m all in on a new playthrough on Switch.

I’m sure I’ll replay Odyssey one day though. Eventually.

I liked odyssey alot. But I might even say I enjoyed my time more with yoshis crafted world. I know... sacrilege

The thought about all those moons again just exhausts me. Kind of like how I start new BotW runs and then remember all the shrines and korok seeds lol

If I did replay Mario Odyssey, it would mostly stop after the end credits. I don't think there's any game with more than like 30 hours of content where I'm like "let's do that again!".

I’m the same way, but there are exceptions. I replayed Final Fantasy X on Switch. I’ve replayed others but they were all 15-20 hr games (Portal 2, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, plan to replay Mario 3D World, and would gladly replay Metroid Prime Trilogy and Xenoblade X if they got ported).

Except Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, which I first played the base game Generations on 3DS, then played MHXX which I imported from Japan, then bought MHGU and put several hundred hours into that.

And Monster Hunter World. Put hundreds of hours into it on PS4, then when it released on Steam and I sold my PS4/X1 and bought a gaming PC, started replaying it, and am already in high rank. If it weren’t for Rise releasing soon I’d still be playing it.

But games like Zelda BotW and Odyssey, ya. One day. But it’ll need to be around 2025 or later. Enough time needs to pass that they feel new again.

@Ralizah I remember Ubisoft sending surveys about how people enjoyed the game and what where their favorite Mario characters last year or in 2019

Personally, I find Odyssey to be more replayable for this very reason.

Whereas in the previous 3D Mario games you're mostly playing a sequence of levels/missions, for me the collectathon nature of Odyssey opens it up to more casual exploration and discovery. I tend not to have a vivid memory of where each and every moon is, so it feels like I'm discovering them all over again for the most part. By contrast the earlier games are a bit more predictable (and in the case of 64 and Sunshine, sometimes contain levels that I dread doing).

I'd like to agree but...looks at Fire Emblem Three Houses and Persona

Yeah if you're looking for games with great replayable content, series like Yakuza, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, SMT and Persona are literally the prime candidates in terms of density of content being married perfectly with its ability to be engaging enough you want to replay it

I forgot about Fire Emblem Three Houses. I started a second playthrough on that game because there’s four separate paths. Also Fire Emblem Awakening I’ve played twice because it’s just so good. And Fire Emblem Fates I’ve played twice, one for each main path. And I’ve played DKC Returns 3 times, and DKC Tropical Freeze twice, and a partial save on a 3rd run. And that’s after hundreds of hours in time trials on Wii U.

Typically gameplay focused games are more appealing for replay, because any game that prioritizes story loses its luster after the first time. And even if it does prioritize gameplay usually I’ve had about enough by the time I finish the game, and that’s even if I manage to finish it at all. Final Fantasy X was only an exception because it was ported to Switch. Otherwise I’d never have touched that game again. Same goes for Xenoblade X. If it comes to Switch I’ll replay it, but otherwise I’m just not gonna play it again.

It takes a very special game to get me to replay it. In order for a game to have more value despite having already played it to completion then a brand new game I’ve never experienced, it’s got to be an all time fave, gameplay focused and not story driven (or have multiple paths if it is), and be long enough since I’ve played that it feels relatively fresh. Switch ports help because it’s more exciting playing again on Switch. If a game is one of my all time faves, even if it’s story driven, I may still replay if it comes to Switch. A lot of the games I’ve replayed, that would have never happened if they didn’t make the jump to hybrid.

But I will say this. Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Metroid Prime Trilogy... these are timeless classics I will certainly replay at some point down the line, and that’s not something I can say confidently about very many games.

This 1,000%. I've replayed and ultimately gotten more time out of "simple" games than games that just overload you with stuff to do. For me, replay value is weighted much higher than chores.
