Everyone knows real games like Wtcher can only be played on a TV whilst the only games that should be played on a handhled are ones like Snake or Tetris! ;p

Fwiw, I have a copy of Witcher 3 on Steam, PS4, XB1 and Switch. The only version I've played more than an hour of so far is.... Switch.

@gcunit No offence but why have you kept buying it if you've not really played it? I'd imagine the prices would have gone down loads in sales but there's a couple of games I loved like Captain Toad and Donkey Kong Country Returns I didn't double dip on the Switch even with it being a portable game now as I couldn't be arsed to re-play them, even some of the dirt cheap indie sale games like SteamWorld Dig I'm a huge fan of I didn't grab again.
Saying that if Star Fox Guard and Nes Remix gets a Switch release I'd double dip.
@jump It is rather unusual for me to multiple-dip like this. I bought the PS4, XB1 and Steam versions all based on reputation only. Around 2016-17 the only thing that seemed to matter in video games, before BotW, was the Witcher 3 and it's add-on campaigns. By reputation, as a casual observer, it seemed to be the Game of the Generation, so I thought I'd better pick it up sooner or later. I think the PS4 and XB1 GOTY versions had different extras packed in (e.g. soundtrack CD) so each one seemed worth having for its own 'Collectible' reason and I was able to get them for about £10-12 each. The Steam version I picked up at some point for about £7 I think.
Then the Switch version got announced - all on the cartridge! - so I felt compelled to support it and actually start playing it (I've barely touched non-Nintendo platforms since March 2017).
The beautiful irony of it is, having now played some of it, I think it's overrated, and a good example of how non-Nintendo gamers hype something up just because it's all they've got. I need to play more of it, only logged about 35 hours IIRC, but so far it seems like a game that just has you running backwards and forwards across the map, with not much to do, in between story checkpoints. For an open world game, the amount of times I seem to have travelled the same paths in both directions already seems a bit much. And Geralt himself doesn't seem to have much personality, so it's not like it's particularly entertaining carrying out conversations either. And don't get me started on the NPCs littering the towns, they just seem to be decoration.

@gcunit Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about The Witcher 3. I managed to get through to the end of the main story but it mostly just felt like a bit of a slog. The world and lore is impressive enough but the gameplay just felt like filler between the story and the story just felt like filler between the gameplay.
That's really the first time i hear something bad about the game tbh. I still haven't touched it because i wanted to play the other games first to get the whole experience. I was hoping that the Story would be the best part...

I went really hard TW3 beginning of last year and put about 25 hours in. Forgot why I stopped honestly. But, I can see what gc and Ben are saying. It did somewhat feel like there was something lacking in the gameplay and world. Having said that, I still do want to go back one day and see it through to the end.
@Dezzy I actually played the majority of the game on high settings at 60fps on my PC, so I've already gotten at least half of a next-gen experience out of it. It's an inarguably beautiful game on PC. With that said, I also picked it up on Switch because the mere existence of a handheld version fascinates me. And, for what it's worth, I'm still super impressed with this port. Particularly on Switch Lite.
@BruceCM Well, yes, a vinyard. I got the tour. But I assume the house I'm residing in is the only section of that land that's of any substance, right? It'd be cool if there was some sort of optional minigame attached to the rest of the estate, but, somehow, I doubt it.
Anyway, I was chasing a vampire that has been killing guards for some reason. Cornered him in a building, fought him, and then some old dude I've never seen before, so I assume he's from a previous game or book or something, shows up and pleads with me to work with him so as not to kill the vampire. Since then, I've unlocked the base in the vinyard, gotten mixed up in the middle of a rivalry over who is going to claim ownership of another vinyard, and have been running around Toussaint trying to unlock most of the notice boards.
@BenAV Geralt is a pretty standard male power fantasy, and the story itself is largely a wild goose chase for the majority of the experience. The Witcher 3 does a few things really well, though:
Awesome OST
Massive enemy variety
Sidequests are frequently awesome, much more engaging than the main story, and, oftentimes, decisions made in them actually matter to the larger story and universe
One of the best supporting casts of characters in the medium. Geralt is nothing special, but the people around him kept me consistently engaged with the game.
The world itself, and the artstyle overall, are just beautiful. Considering this is dark fantasy, it's amazing how often I was wowed by the beautiful environments, detailed weather systems, and just fantastic aesthetic sense in the entire experience.
There are a lot of flaws as well, though, so I think its quality overall has been massively overstated in some circles.
Heh, well, it makes for nice scenery, @Ralizah .... There's the little herb garden & the upgrades for everything! Yeah, Geralt & Regis do know each other but they cover everything you need to know for this game! Obviously, as you investigate, you'll find out why the one your after was doing that
A 'wild goose chase' is probably what it would be like if you were trying to track down a girl with Ciri's powers & it's a good way to let you have as much of the optional extra missions as you want to do in a way that makes sense, though
I loved The Witcher 3. It was good enough to keep me totally absorbed until completion, and even beat Hearts of Stone expansion (never beat Blood & Wine). Very few games can keep me interested to play that long all the way to completion, so that alone speaks for itself.
But I do think it’s somewhat overrated because I’ve heard some people say it’s the greatest game of all time, and while I do think it’s one of the best games to come out of this generation (or the last, rather), certainly one of the best of the genre, there has been a tendency to hype certain AAA games beyond measure.
Still. It’s a really great game. Do recommend.

Blood & Wine is the best part, though, @JaxonH .... When it originally came out, there weren't as many open-world games & the 'competition' was Skyrim & GTA, though Games since have learned from it's success & tried to adopt similar ideas more than they had before

Well we don't know what the next-gen update will actually entail, so I think it's too soon to say that.
If all they were doing was higher resolution and 60fps, it would've released already.

Geralt is a great character because he somehow has no personality and lots of personality at the same time.
Geralt is hilarious. I went from "this guy looks a douche" to "I want him reading bed stories to me".
What I like about the game(and geralt) is that I don't have to pretend to care about these npc's or their quests like you're forced to in the xeno games which has the benefit of me actually doing them.
@JaxonH Blood and wine is great, they actually didn't forget to add color to the game that time. Beautiful expansion and could easily be played on its own I think. Which I might recommend ppl do, just play the dlcs, they are way better than the base game, and if you like it you could play the base game.

I wanted to play it, it’s just that by the time I beat the main game and Hearts of Stone, I was kinda Witchered out and needed a break. I’ll eventually make my way back to it... maybe... one day... when I don’t have a new Monster Hunter, Mario, Bravely Default, Monster Hunter Stories, Ys, Trails, Rune Factory, Persona and SMT on deck.
