By the way, I decided to just go for it and get an MClassic. I'd seen enough comparison videos where it made a pretty clear improvement, and I have enough games and systems that will benefit from it, that it seemed like a worthwhile investment.

I figured I can use it on Switch, Wii U (including Wii and Gamecube games) and then the backcompat games on the Xbox that they haven't offered higher res upgrades for (which is most X360 games).

@Dezzy That great, do let me know what you think!

At least 2'8".

I just watched Scott Pilgrim movie yesterday. Makes the game more interesting if you've seen the movie.

@Dezzy
Right on. I've heard it said the upscale works best for 720p games and you should set your Switch to output 720p for those games, but every single one I've tried hasn't looked as good as if I left it on automatic (this was when I realized how many games run at higher resolutions than 720p).

It's basically just extra AA to smooth out micro jaggies (doesnt really work on jaggies unless it's super fine stair stepping). But that's ok. Switch needs all the AA it can get, and it does make a difference. You wont notice right away, but you'll hear others talking about aliasing in a game and you'll be like, wait... I didnt think it was that bad?

Let us know your thoughts after some use.

@Dezzy That's great, glad it worked out!

@JaxonH I was under the impression that they say it works best for 720p because that's where you see the most improvement, not because a 720p upscaled image will work better than a 900p.

@link3710
Pertaining to the upscaling feature, it can upscale to 1440p, but according to numerous reports it only works well for 720p images due to it being a perfect multiple. So games with dynamic res, they say to cap your Switch output res at 720p. But I've found that basically every game looks best if you just leave output res to Automatic. Perhaps it's because my TV upscales to 4k already? Who knows.

But ya, if you have a 4k tv that upscales already, best to leave output on Auto rather than switch back and forth to 720p on a game by game basis.

@JaxonH Huh, I would've thought it would've scaled the image down to 720p before upscaling, thus adding SSAA to the image.

So... anywho... how bout that Monster Hunter Rise demo 😉

Jk jk I’ve pestered you guys about it enough... for now, at least. Just wait til March though.

I haven't played it yet but I'll grab it day one. The funny thing is, I feel like I'm supporting JaxonH more than Capcom with this game 🤣. You're their best spokesperson, and should be feeding you free copies lol.

The discussion earlier about Odyssey not feeling replayable came to mind after thinking about the fact the vast majority of mainline Mario games are on the Switch after February. The missing ones are:

  • NSMB (DS)
  • NSMBWii (Wii)
  • NSMB2 (3DS)
  • Galaxy 2 (Wii)
  • 3D Land (3DS)

All of those I've replayed sometime after completion except Galaxy 2 which I would replay if it came to Switch.

@Grumblevolcano I could see myself replaying NSMB ds, 2, and land at some point. Mainly because how short the experiences are for them.. Surprisingly I've had wii forever and never completed it. I actually hooked my wii up in the basement of our new house as it's sort of our game room now. I intend to play thru it at some point in the near future along with warioland shake it

@WaveWitch Yeah, some things are best left in the past. I found out the hard way that the controls and level design in the PS1 Crash Bandicoot games really don't hold up. Spyro the Dragon is still a well-designed game, but after years of training myself to turn a camera with a right analog stick, relying exclusively on the shoulder bumpers felt awful. I've also noticed this with some people who have revisited Mario 64 in the 3D All-Stars Collection. I've always disliked it, but I noticed a lot of people across the internet having to come to terms with the idea that the brilliant 3D platformer that knocked their socks off as kids just feels sort of clunky and old at this point.

I'm in my early 30s and haven't really hit that mid-life stage where everything has a 'been there, done that' vibe to it, thankfully. I'm essentially just a softer and slightly less pretentious version of the person I was in my teens.

Somehow, I've managed to evade watching Suspiria up to this point in my life, although considering every Argento or Fulci film I've seen thus far has either bored me to tears (Deep Red) or been terrible to the point where I couldn't even enjoy it (The Beyond; Zombi 2), I'm coming around to the idea that italian filmmaking just doesn't click with me. I will at some point, probably, since it's one of the only classic horror films I've still not seen.

They're not dead. They're just on an indefinite hiatus. With the way the world is at present it's probably way harder to court third party partners to curate a sufficient amount of content alongside first party software for a 40-min Direct like we used to get. It's probably why all we got last year were Mini Directs and Partner Showcases dedicated specifically to third party games

@TheFrenchiestFry The amount of 3rd party presence in non-E3 general Directs is comparable to a single post-July Partner Showcase. The 1st party content is more likely the reason why, lack of 1st party releases and most of them being ports. The port heavy 1st half of 2018 was covered in a January Direct Mini meanwhile the March 2018 general Direct only revealed 1 1st party port (Captain Toad).

@TheFrenchiestFry Funny, considering 2021 might be Nintendo's best third-party year in ages. Assuming the various exclusives set to release this year aren't delayed, of course.

I'm just gonna die if SMT V gets delayed into 2022 or later.

Yeah I totally get why people thought Mario 64 was a masterpiece in 1996. But I don't understand why some people still think it is today.

As far as I'm concerned, pretty much everything about it has been improved on by the games since.

Maybe the only part of it that still really stands out as excellent, are the clever level designs.

@Ralizah SMT V BETTER come out this year. It'd be nice to have something original related to mainline since Atlus seems to be centering nearly all their plans around Persona's 25th
