@Ralizah hah! Just realized I had you on ignore accidentally. I kept wondering why people were @ing you and I had no clue what they were replying to. I thought you ignored me! Lol
I forgot all about Minecraft, too. Though I have no idea how much it’s sold. 10m seems excessive. Media Create claims 1.5m for Japan sales. Digital is less in Japan, but we could safely say 2m. Usually NA, EU and JP have roughly equivalent contributions. So 6m sales total? Just a guess.
@Anti-Matter
I actually agree. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is seriously, seriously good. They did a bang up job on the Switch version, too.

@JaxonH Switch hasn't yet passed Steam quite yet. 67 million is the 2018 report. They reported an increase to 95 million for 2019 (also daily active rising to 47 million). Steam saw new record concurrent peaks in 2020, so I'm guessing the monthly active users will also see an increase over 2019 (especially considering the 2020 situation).
I have no doubt MH Rise will perform better on Switch, but it's no wonder these releases also get PC treatment, it's a huge market to ignore and could potentially boost sales figures significantly. I've yet to figure out why it bothers some people, though. Makes no sense to be angry that other people will also enjoy the same game
@Shadowthrone
Ah, so it is. That’s definitely a big increase over 2018. Absolutely insane increase, actually.
It’s still roughly on par with what’s expected of a single console user base, though. But ya, of course it’s a huge market and definitely shouldn’t be ignored.
It bothers some people because they pride themselves on favoring a “better system” and they know likeminded people on the other side will use it to gloat about “one less notch in the system’s belt”. The ones who are bothered don’t actually care if others enjoy it, they just want bragging rights, and the ones who like to gloat about games not being on the system don’t actually care, they just want to knock a system down a peg and will pretend like it’s no longer an asset for said system. It’s all egotistical nonsense. I’ve seen it with countless PS4 games that all went to Steam (especially Horizon, wow... people were losing their minds), and I’ve seen it with a number of Switch games that went to Steam.
That said, in the case of Switch, there are legitimate reasons to want a game to be exclusive- multiplatform games tend to not turn out that well when not built for the system ground up. Exclusivity means a game will be built for the system in mind. However, there’s nothing wrong with a game going to PC after the fact, provided it didn’t affect the Switch game’s development. In fact, if they actually enable cross play it only benefits Switch users as it helps the user base stay alive longer. And having a PC release helps the game be more profitable and thus more viable. It’s hard to profit off an exclusive game nowadays. A game has to be in the upper echelon of sales potential for it to even be considered. But with PC helping to boost sales it makes it more likely that companies will actually want to develop games for Switch.
I’m not sure how many will be eager to develop games ground up for Switch, but when ground up games for the system can also be sold to the PC fanbase along side it... well... that changes things. Suddenly a game that may not have been worthwhile on Switch alone becomes a viable strategy. And that only increases the likelihood of games developed ground up with Switch in mind. It’s a win win. But I do think it’s bad that word got out before MH Rise released. Even though we all know Sony’s third-party exclusives will all end up on PC anyways, they always make sure to keep their mouth shut until after the game has released and sold. Always. And without a doubt, this information releasing beforehand will affect Switch in some capacity. Probably not in any major way but it will still have at least some effect on its performance. Which is a shame. But ultimately, Switch versions of games sell themselves. Everybody wants a piece of that hybrid pie when given the option, especially games that are well done and look great, and that goes doubly for MH.

Another top notch conversion from Rebellion with Sniper Elite 4. People talk about the rumble in the new CoD? Forget that. Sniper Elite 4 has HD Rumble AND more importantly, gyro aiming. Feel your own heartbeat as you hold your breath before sniping a kill shot from 200 yards, using the flexibility of motion to immerse yourself in fine tuning your aim...
Bravo. Another chef’s kiss addition to the hybrid portfolio

On another note, I was surprised to see a lot of you put Paper Mario: The Origami King somewhere on your GotY lists on this thread. I was put off by the battle system (it really didn’t look like the kind of thing I would enjoy), but maybe I should give it a chance?
I don't want to be the party pooper, but I think it's good to share both sides of the story just to help you make your decision. Here's my post from the Origami King topic. I notice that I wrote it a lot more positive than I really feel about the game. Bottom line I found it quite boring.
Disclaimer: all I'm saying in this post is subjective and only my opinion. I'm happy for everyone who doesn't share it.
So I've finally reached the ending credits a few days ago. I've put the cart in the box and I doubt whether it'll ever come out again for 85%ing it (100% I hardly ever reach in a game so 85 is my new overall satisfaction rate). I think the first time I may see it again, is when I trade it in somewhere.
I've had fun during some parts of the game, e.g. the sea exploration part and some of the bosses. Besides that I really liked the art style and the looks of the world design and a lot of the music. Besides that, the progression system with coins, hearts and accessories also pleased me. I didn't miss xp and uplevelling.
Most of the parts though were simply too slow for me. Dialogue often kept dragging and the pace in which dialogue was actually presented was too slow. For the most of it I didn't like the battle system. The puzzles with the timer just didn't click for me. It felt like a 'must do' instead of something that added to the fun.
In the end I'm glad a lot of people seem to have enjoyed this a bit more than I did!
@NintendoByNature pretty sure we’ll get a partners showcase or mini direct showing off the great ace attorney, some more monster hunter, and more potentially coming to switch. Also an indie world next month wouldn’t surprise me.
@Blooper987 yea exactly. Prob a direct mini or indie but I don't think they're doing anymore partner ones. I think their last showcase stated it was the last for the year. We'll have something at least for January. I cant remember a year where nothing came in January, even if its a port or deluxe version. Maybe the switch launch year was the last time? We'll see what happens in the next month.
@NintendoByNature 2018, two years ago. We didn't get anything in January. 2019 had NSMB U DX, and 2020 had TMS #FE. And nope, the first release of 2017 was Woolly World for the 3DS in February.
Feel your own heartbeat as you hold your breath before sniping a kill shot from 200 yards, using the flexibility of motion to immerse yourself in fine tuning your aim.
200 yards? You must be a superb Sniper Elite player or you're going to use aim assist. It's pretty difficult to snipe in this game, makes it even more satisfying when you pull it off(without aim assist).
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
I'm currently playing Resident Evil 4 Remake & Manhunt
@NintendoByNature 2018 didn't have a January release, there were some DLC and updates for existing games though (e.g. FE Warriors, XC2, Pokken DX, Splatoon 2).
We know January is getting an Animal Crossing update (mentioned in today's trailer) and I'd guess we get the next Smash character around then (4 characters with a year left based on the current schedule so probably 1 around January, 1 around April, 1 around July and 1 around November).
@NintendoByNature Well we did get events in January 2017 and 2018, the Switch Presentation was in January 2017 and the Direct Mini in January 2018 revealed the first half of 2018's lineup (the one that its existence was leaked by EA because of Fe and heavily teased by Nintendo in the lead up to the event).
@Grumblevolcano Dark Souls Remastered was also announced ahead of the Direct Mini and that was supposed to be the big one more thing moment of the presentation

So according to my partner the Serious Sam Collection has vanished from the UK eShop despite supposing to be released today. A check on Nintendo UKs site still says today but only add to wish list.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
