@TheFrenchiestFry
Perspective is key.

By any reasonable standard the game did plenty well enough, nobody’s saying it flopped. But for supposedly being one of the biggest games of all time, I think they expected more. In fact they said as much. They blamed it on coronavirus and used the usual “But because we sold less physical copies digital made up a larger percentage” narrative. And it hasn’t remained evergreen afaIk, and those numbers were shipped to stores plus digital.

What matter is the fact that now, they’ve changed their tune and the exclusivity window has shrunk. That tells me they’re afraid of sales dying off and people losing interest. They want to strike while the iron is hot.

With both PS5 and Series X preorders being a mess, this week would be the perfect time for Nintendo announce a Switch revision.

I dont think preorders were a mess. I've got a fair list of complaints against Sony and MS but preorders arent one of them. Did they goof when they went live early? Sure. But who cares. It's always a fight to be first regardless of whether they set a date or not.

That said, I doubt anyone's trying to "kick them while they're down".

@JaxonH Even then Sony actually ended up responding in a pretty genuine matter to the situation and promised more stock would be coming so they did goof up, but at least they acted on it after receiving enough complaints

Given Nintendo couldn't even handle a pin set, I doubt their next console revision launch will go any better than Xbox/Playstation.

@DarthNocturnal It would just be the reveal, not preorders going live. I just think if Nintendo does have hardware releasing in early 2021, they need to reveal it before the next gen consoles are released.

Console pre-orders always sell out. The problem with Sony is that they said they'd give us plenty of time. Well, technically they said pre-orders won't to live ''in a minute's notice'', and they did give us 12 hours or so, but still. I believe it was Walmart who also said F it and went live way too early, other retailers followed and that definitely didn't help either, but I guess that was outside of their control. A few days notice would've been a lot better.

Either way, I managed to secure a pre-order with relative ease. But maybe I was lucky, and I happened to look at the right time, because less than an hour later they were all sold out.

@Grumblevolcano Why do that? Nintendo always reveals revisions no more than 2 months before the revision launches. The majority of people who are buying a PS5/XBSX at launch aren't going to be swayed anyways. And all the pre-holiday stock is likely already sold through. Instead, if they reveal it when the general public goes to try and buy a system and finds out there's no stock, they can get that crowd. So I'd January would be perfect for a reveal.

Ya, January is my bet too. IF a new revision is coming, itll likely be revealed in January. Get the holiday sales in first. Announce in the new year with a March release date for Monster Hunter.

Unless they plan on a summer release, in which case it may be revealed later.

I have a question for everyone here. If the Switch revision is real, what do you think are the changes? Besides 4K via DLSS 2.0? Nintendo always has a bunch of changes with revisions. This time though, they can't change the form factor too much (which is a first). So what else will they add? Bring back the camera and/or microphone? An upgraded IR sensor that will still never get used outside of a single game? New joysticks that don't drift (ha)? A new joycon design, with better ergonomics? Or something else entirely?

I'm just curious what people think is going to be their selling points for it. Cause 4K upscaling will appeal to the power crowd, but their revisions always have features that target everyone, not just that crowd.

Better frame rates and resolution will be the selling point. If you're ok with less than 1080p keep your current switch. If unstable frame rates don't bother you keep your current switch. I think this gets announced mid February not to totally piss of brand new Christmas switch buyers with a march release.

I have my doubts about DLSS, simply because it would require the tensor cores and that would require a significantly redesigned chip. For next gen? Probably. But for a mid gen refresh? That would be a heck of an accomplishment. Dont get me wrong, I'm hoping they do. But that's such a significant change, I'm just not sure they'd be able to pull it off.

Then again, the reports did say suppliers were ramping up production for a new model in Q4, and devs were told to get their games 4k ready, so... maybe they figured out a way? That would be incredible if they did.

I've always argued against using a 1080p screen in handheld but, if DLSS 2.0 is involved, THEN I could see the benefit of a 1080p screen, because they could achieve it at the power cost of 720p. And, that would explain the better screens we've heard about too.

I'm hesitant to get my hopes up but man would it be nice to get a Switch Pro for Monster Hunter.

@JaxonH I'd be happy if they got most games up to 720p in handheld mode, lol.

If Switch Pro dramatically boost the resolution for games like Xenoblade 2, DOOM, etc. in handheld mode I... might crack on a Switch Pro. We'll see.

If they got handheld up to 720 then they succeeded at getting docked to 1080p and that's exactly what I have been hoping for

Remember that, if rumors are true, a new Switch model will not be announced in 2020. Rumors have said it will be announced during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020, which means January-March 2021, and be released during the first quarter of fiscal year 2021, which would mean April-June 2021.

@Rexenoboy i still think Nintendo will release Switch Pro with Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 in holiday 2021, just like they did with Switch Lite and the release of the remake of Legend of Zelda Links Awakening.
