@jump well these are unprecedented times and all the GameStops in my area (Toronto) are closed. So you'd have to go to a best buy or Wal-Mart. Why couldn't you simply order the physical game off the Nintendo website. Conventional ways of doing things can be completely revamped right now. Which is how we got that disastrous mini direct.
@sixrings That’s probably a worse idea. You will be leaving out a huge amount of distributors to basically self release like a DIY indie band which is actually more effort as you ship it game by game to each person as opposed to sending thousands of copies at the same time to online retailers and high street shops.
@jump distributors are going the way of the dodo. I'll estimate that by xbox series x 2 and ps6 we will have only digital games. At some point that's the future and at some point someone is going to test that theory. Nothing's written in stone. Thou must have physical games in order to run a company. It isn't the 11th commandment. We will get there one day or another (ACNH showed us physical isn't as important as it once was) and Nintendo could easily try that theory this winter and people,except the vocal minority, will "understand."
@sixrings The problem with digital is that all of the kids who ask their parents/grandparents for the game won’t be easily able to due to it being a download. I personally hope to never see the day where gaming goes strictly digital.
@sixrings Nintendo are largely behind on these types of things, I'd be surprised if they tried it. Nintendo have already decided to stop selling their games via digital codes so the actions they are taking is at odds with the plans your suggesting. Nintendo consoles have limited storage space (intentionally to keep them cheap as possible) making it harder to have for their users to go digital only.
As successful as Animal Crossings digital sales were the majority of them was still physical sales.
As a general comment on digital only, if you look at something like steam games have to get massively discount to get noticed. That is something that would be very at odds with how Nintendo like to do things, the likes of Zelda and Pokemon would be fine but they would probably feel the effect of their lesser titles.
It's way too late for a retail title being announced for September and would Nintendo really have a 3D Mario Collection and 3D World launching at the same time in November?
Of course they wouldn't because 1 would sabotage the other (NSMBU Deluxe and Mario Maker 2 launched 5 months apart and NSMBU Deluxe still sabotaged Mario Maker 2's potential), either the 3D Mario Collection is digital only or even more likely in my mind the 3D Mario Collection doesn't exist.
I’m expecting news in the next two weeks. 3D Collection most likely, but it could be something else. Either way, they’ve got to have something else besides Pikmin 3 this year. And they are running out of time to announce.
Also, kinda agree with Ralizah. SMTV is going to be the envy of many PS/Steam fans very much how Nintendo fans want Persona. Yet Nintendo fans seem much less interested in it. You guys (the general “you”) are sitting on a gold mine. Realize what you have with this, and how many people wish they had it instead. Many will only start wanting it once it’s taken away, like Monster Hunter. Countless people ignored that series until World came around, and then all of a sudden they started questioning why it wasn’t on Nintendo. Plenty of opportunity to care when there were three exclusive games, but people only seem to care once it goes elsewhere.
Don’t let that happen to SMT. Because I promise you- there are plenty of people out there who will gladly see the series taken and put elsewhere.

@JaxonH Nintendo fans wanting Persona is mostly a result of Joker in Smash, if Nintendo chooses for there to be a SMT character in Fighters Pass 2 I'd imagine there'll be more excitement for SMTV.
And I think Nintendo will do that given next gen is coming so they can no longer assume 3rd party support will happen by default.
@Grumblevolcano
I think the demand was there prior to Joker in Smash, although that did serve as traction for the subsequent movement. Of course, SMT character in Smash could help, but not as much as some think. Samurai Showdown is a perfect example. There really needs to be more than just “character in Smash”. Either a pre-existing desire for the franchise or a specific appeal about the character put in Smash, which is not always a given.
I actually don’t think they’ll do anything with SMT in Smash. It’s possible but, I suspect those slots will go elsewhere.
The best thing they can do is make a great game and Nintendo needs to help Atlus market it to Persona fans, Pokémon fans and JRPG fans in general. Never underestimate the value of a well made trailer.

I find myself very hyped for Nexomon Extinction at the end of the month.
Looks like it might be the best Poke-clone mobile game on Switch?

Not so sure about that. NSMBU also outsold Mario Maker on the Wii U, when they were several years apart. Seems entirely plausible it just has a bigger audience because more people want to play mario levels than make them. Mario Maker 2 has sold over 5 million copies. Don't know if that should be considered "sabotaged".
In plenty of other contexts, obviously the idea of releasing 2 very similar games near each other will cause problems, but I'm unsure how much this kind of phenomena exists with something like 3D Mario games, because they're one of those Nintendo franchises that seem to be in the charts for years after release, at which point the original release date seems kinda unimportant. Like if 3D Collection is released in October and 3D World is release in December, it might seem a problem at christmas, but will it seem like an issue a year later when they're both still selling loads?
More strategy or rpgs. Smh. So in 2020 we had ACNH, PIKMAN 3, Xenoblade remastered, Paper Mario, Golden Sun.... Well I'll pretend I am happy for my rpg or strategy playing Nintendo friends but my goodness that is pretty pathetic if you're not into those types of games. You would think with so many IPs you would make sure to diversify the game releases.
@sixrings
I was the opposite.
One ACNH game kept me playing everyday for 50+ days in a row.
I have never felt very very hyped with ACNH.
I didn't play any games but ACNH for almost 2 months.
I saw my other machines started to cry due to being neglected for almost 2 months.
