@sixrings that’s from two years ago and people have had the same theories about Ninty copyrighting loads of stuff before only to end up disappointed a new game didn't come.

Release years are always unimpressive when a person isn’t into all the games released that year. Doesn’t make it “pathetic”, because “pathetic” implies it falls short of a goal. Which is clearly not the case, especially if more people are buying games this year than last (which they clearly are). I would suggest people choose their words more clearly- the failure to articulate yourself in a precise manner inevitably results in your words being disregarded. Pathetic is not the right term to use. “Unimpressive for you in particular“ is perfectly applicable. Of course, that’s not really saying much except to say that you have particular taste that doesn’t align with the particular games that are being released. Welcome to the club. Everyone feels that way at some point.

Nintendo’s entire 1st party catalog can not appeal to certain people (though I would question their judgment). But that doesn’t make their lineup pathetic just because someone can say “I’m happy for all you Zelda fans and Mario fans and Pikmin fans and Xenoblade fans and Bayonetta fans and Platinum fans and Smash fans and Splatoon fans and Mario Kart fans and Bravely Default fans and etc etc etc”, but for someone who doesn’t like any of those games the library’s been pathetic. Sure. That kind of goes without saying if you hate every single game they make you’re not going to enjoy the library.

This year has had all kinds of games, from Brain Age (puzzler) to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (dungeon crawler) to Animal Crossing (sim) to Xenoblade (JRPG) and Paper Mario (adventure) and Pikmin 3 (RTS). We’ll also likely get some form of 3D Mario (3D platformer) and maybe Pokémon Snap (on rails picture “shooter”).

So you can complain about the lack of news (fair), complain about the fact they’ve shown nothing really for the second half of the year (fair), and even complain nothing has appealed to you personally (fair), but to say a lineup is pathetic by disingenuously portraying all the games as homogenous when they’re not, that’s reckless.

edit
As for news, the ones who leaked the Indies Showcase also said Direct on 28th so be prepared for that. Grubb says it could be anywhere between then and mid September though, so a bit of conflicting reports. Could just be him trying to cover his butt in case nothing happens on the 28th though. Either way it seems we should be getting some news on either the 28th or, at the latest, two weeks after.

Nintendo really are being quiet aren't they?

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

DannyBoi

@Anti-Matter No. I mean they are being quiet in terms of first party releases.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

@DannyBoi
I was't really worried with the quiet month of 1st party.
I still have a lot of backlogs to play.
I played Animal Crossing New Horizons for more than 360 hours in 52 days in a row.
ACNH keep me busy during this pandemic.

They sure are, what do you think it means?

@HobbitGamer Nintendo is acting unusual, even for them. It's been almost a year since the last general direct, they haven't released many first party games this year and there has been a ton of maintenance. More coming up. The funny thing is Nintendo have been selling switches well and currently exsisting games have been selling through the roof. With Nintendo being quiet as they are, they shouldn't be selling as many switches as they are. What is going on?

@DannyBoi Why do they keep doing maintenance, though? What are they maintaining?

@DannyBoi Of course they should be selling this many Switches.

1. Animal Crossing madness hit Blue Ocean consumers (people who don't normally game), so the effects of that could last for the rest of the system's life and would be completely unaffected by directs.
2. We're in a pandemic. People are stuck inside.
3. If someone wants a game system, their choices currently are buy a Switch, or one of two consoles that's about to be replaced. And Sony and Microsoft still haven't given concrete dates or prices for that, so when a casual person googles, they'll be more likely to get a Switch.
4. Games themselves haven't significantly slowed down. Lots of people aren't obsessed with playing Nintendo-only games. In fact, that's mostly a feature of places like this. Most of my more casual friends don't know who publishes which games, nor do they care. They just see big name stuff like say, Borderlands, XCOM, and Bioshock launch and decide to pick one up.

@Anti-Matter What if they don't like Animal Crossing though?

@link3710 The point I'm trying to make is that with the fewer first party releases this year and the way Nintendo are being quiet, something unusual/big is going on. And it isn't good company policy to remain quiet for a lot of the year. In terms of financial gain.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

@jump
I wasn't sold with ACNL 3DS when i have my first Old 3DS XL on November 2013.
From being skeptical after not interested by City Folk, suddenly drastically changed into overhyped with ACNL by 1 month playing.
ACNH made me even more than overhyped.
If ACNL = 89/100, ACNH = 99/100

@DannyBoi
You do realize if we have COVID 19 pandemic.
What do you expect from the pandemic?
The games cannot be released quickly during pandemic.
Btw, do you still have your backlogs?
Play with them to feed your anxiety.
