2021 is a huge year for Atlus fans in the West.
You've reminded me that I really should play my copy of Rune Factory 4 one of these days. I've owned it for years, but, for some reason, never got around to it.
@Grumblevolcano I'll be honest, my PS4 has been deader than dead this year. Cyberpunk 2077 is the first game I'm excited for (unless Miles Morales launches before that which isn't out of the question, or Crash 4 is actually good). Outside of that? I played Destroy all Humans on PC, waiting for Doom Eternal on Switch, got Bug Fables and Darksiders Genesis on Switch, and I played most of the rest of the games that would interest me on other platforms already (ie La Mulana, Azure Striker Gunvolt), and... yeah.
I might get FF VII Remake or DBZ Kakarot eventually but the reviews on the latter are meh, while I still haven't finished playing through FFX yet, never mind jumping over to VII R.
I'm curious, what interested you on the XB1 this year?
@link3710 For XB1 it's mostly being going back to games I bought previously but didn't finish because a lot was going on the Nintendo front close to when I purchased them or games that have long lifespan because of multiplayer/DLC. The main 2020 Xbox stuff I've been excited by are:
Modern Warfare 2 Remastered (It was nice returning back, really liked the Modern Warfare trilogy and Black Ops 1+2 back in the 360 days, did wish it had Special Ops and Multiplayer rather than just campaign though)
Halo 3 ODST Firefight (it's getting added to Master Chief Collection later this summer)
Gears Tactics (I really liked Mario + Rabbids so got in that kind of strategy games, was playing XCOM 2 on Switch but bugs made it unplayable so I stopped, Gears Tactics comes later this year on XB1)
I'm cautiously optimistic about Halo Infinite, open world and FTP multiplayer concerns me but apart from that it looks fine.
I think that's the key thing, having a 2+ system plan where you go between them to handle droughts better. I didn't fix up my 3DS after it had button issues in late 2016, Switch is infamous for Wii U ports so going back to Wii U may make the Switch droughts even longer (e.g. if I played through Pikmin 3 now and Pikmin 3 for Switch ended up being released in a few months to be the main Switch release around then) and setting up the Wii just to play GC games is a nuisance given my console and TV setup so my combo is pretty much Switch + XB1.
Provided the backwards compatibility situation does end up being the current stance of "all games playable on XB1 except Kinect", I'll likely upgrade my XB1 to Series X this holiday. My XB1 sounds like a jet engine when it plays most games that are 2018 or newer.
I could probably still survive only by 2020 releases on Switch tbh. But thankfully I have
-A PS3 as my way to finally experience PS1/2 games
-3DS games I haven't gotten to (though not a ton tbh)
-older Switch games I haven't gotten to yet
People who only know games exist because it meets their requirement of "Nintendo IP that was given a decent marketing budget at least once" are probably screwed this year though
@link3710 I like it a lot, ODST and Reach are my favourite Halo single player campaigns. ODST's campaign is different from traditional Halo campaigns though. It's kind of like if BotW was a lot smaller, more linear, the world had a lot more purpose, better story and the memories were actual playable levels rather than cutscenes.
I wouldn't mind another Switch release or two this year - I'm still waiting on a solid release date for Bravely Default II, to name one - but overall I'm content. I'm making some (minor) headway on my backlog, but I have enough games to keep me busy for some time yet. That's not to mention that I still need to pick up a few stragglers (mostly via the eshop) on both the 3DS and Wii U.

@Ninfan I only just picked mine up over the Christmas season and have stockpiled a decent chunk of physical games besides. In terms of Switch games, both retail and digital, I have...counts....27 games right now. Some of those are collections (such as Collection of Mana, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and a physical import of Ace Attorney Trilogy, to name a few), and others are fairly meaty JRPGs (Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Octopath Traveler) and adventure games (BotW, Skyrim).
And that's only my Switch backlog. I still have a somewhat meaty 3/DS backlog (though this is shrinking) and a few stragglers on Wii U.
@Tyranexx yea BDII is the only game I have my eyes out for. But I can wait til 21. Ill probably snag crystal chronicles though. Are you keeping an eye on that?
The demo for BDII nuked my anticipation for that game, unfortunately. If there's an updated demo, I'll check it out, but first impressions were not good.

Absolutely. Just took a brief intermission for Paper Mario, which I would have beaten the final boss by now but first the Tetris weekend happened, then you swayed me to reconsider 3DS And I’ve spent every day since trying to get all my games dumped and updated (I have those scratches on the top screen for my New 3DS, I want to see if I can pay somebody to replace it- I bought tempered glass screen protectors for my spare black New 3DS that’s hacked, but for some reason it’s not installing some games, so I might be stuck with the New 3DS and New 3DS XL I have, both of which have slight scratches and bother the crap out of me).
But ya, Trails is so good, in the real predicament is deciding whether to play the third or first. I’m equally far in both games and I want to see how things play out in both of them. It has a slow pace, But once you’re thoroughly absorbed in the world and what’s going on, you hang on to every single word. It’s also a lot more strategic than I anticipated, especially the first game which was kicking my butt until I learned some tips from BruceCM.

All my remaining backlog on Switch are really long games like DQXIS and Black Eagles path for Three Houses but I don't want to return to long games until I've finished Paper Mario. So pretty much the Switch side of things is on hold until a Paper Mario patch comes or stuff gets announced/release dates that I'm interested in (I'd guess a Paper Mario patch happens first).
Well, it'd probably make more sense to finish the 1st & then go on to the 2nd, now you have those, @JaxonH .... Do keep me posted on progress with them
