@Grumblevolcano recently? We have Tomb Raider this month and we had battlefront 2 and Cod WW2 last month. Even if you dont like these games its not exactly “meh”
@Heavyarms55 Admittedly, if we get the likely Megaman Battle Network Collection, a Castlevania GBA collection, and NSO happens with first party titles (Drill Dozer, Mario Tennis, Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, Zelda, both Metroids, Advance Wars, Golden Sun), then the only games I think I'd miss would be FF Tactics Advance, Legacy of Goku 1-3 + Supersonic Warriors and the Boktai games.
@link3710 I mean if we got what you describe, I'd call that more than a win. Although I'd want the GBA Fire Emblem titles too.
@Grumblevolcano I hear that excuse all that time and I hate it. I hate this protectionist idea for indie games. I think it's this mentality that is to blame for so many retro-wannabe shovelware titles we've gotten over the last few games. Indie games should sell or not sell based on their own merits, not whether they exist on the same platform as older titles. Look at indie titles like Stardew Valley or Celeste or Hollowknight or Cuphead that have been massive success on everything they've been released on. Why? Because they are great games. Not because we've avoided allowing competition.
@Ralizah I suppose that's what it would have been, yeah. The thing was just that the range on the game pad was so limited that it really didn't even feel wireless. My first idea would be to use a router to expand that range but I'm sure there are other solutions that could have worked. It's moot now, because Switch exists anyway.
And I really thought Nintendo would have given us a lot more retro titles on NSO by this point, from more platforms. But instead they seem to have nearly forgotten the service exists. Yes, I know we got a couple new SNES/NES games the other day, but that was the first addition in months.

So do I. Unfortunately, we get no choice in the matter. So the only way to attain, for now, is via emulation. And I’ve wanted portable GameCube/Wii so badly, for so long, The high cost of the portable system wasn’t enough to deter me. Especially when you consider it’s basically a clamshell SNES/GBA/DS/N64/GC/Wii/Genesis/PSP/PS2 all rolled into one. I don’t mess with NES or PSone, but you could do those too, if one so desired.
It does especially well for DS games. Can toggle the two screens to be split large/small, 50/50 or swap them out as needed, and since the screen is also a touch screen, you can use both buttons or touch as needed (I just use buttons though). Playing Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and English patched Fire Emblem Heroes of Light and Shadow in crisp 720p is great.
I bought and own every single VC game on the Wii U for SNES, GBA, DS, N64 and Wii. Literally every single game. Scroll through the eShop and everything says “Purchased”. If Nintendo would sell the games I would be happy to buy them (even for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time in some cases). Especially on Switch. But... at least we got a rental for DKC, right? /s
@diwdiws In comparison to before March 2019, PS+ has been meh. There has been some good titles added since but the service was better before Sony cut the number of games per month.
Ideally once the PS5 comes out PS+ should be a case of a mixture of PS4 and PS5 games every month but I guess they'll do something like 1 PS4 game + 1 PS5 game per month instead.
As for XBL Gold, it has been meh since Microsoft started giving all attention to Game Pass. There's apparently rumours about XBL Gold changes being announced at the Xbox event in July though.
I see many have the love for VC.
I personally prefer to play it on the original consoles but hey It’s easy for me to say that because I have all the consoles.
VC is great though if you want to play the games on the go on the switch.

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo proved to be the leader for the rest of the industry regarding legacy content and all the owners of extensive IP back catalogues are going to setup their own subscription services, and so started to limit the availability of individual games.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I am in a similar situation, whilst I do own all the original consoles, I still would love to see more arrive on Switch so that I can take it with me on the go, or play in 1080p. I have purchased the classic pads for Switch also. Obviously, for those that don't own the original consoles would love to have that nostalgia kick. I genuinely feel Nintendo need to up their game with the VC offering on switch. The console has entered it's 4th year now and the offering is not impressive in my opinion.
@gcunit Given the focus on BC for Microsoft, and PC platforms overall I think the pushback both from consumers and industry partners would be a bit much for that model. Nintendo can do it because Nintendo is Nintendo. There really aren't that many other companies that have a legacy back catalogue worth mentioning other than Square and Sega that doesn't already have much more modernized remakes that are worthwhile for their legacy games. Nintendo's somewhat unique having content from the 80s & 90s that is still in high demand without a modern system to run it on.
Square could get away with it...Sega kind of could.....but really, who else? EA? They already have a $5/mo sub for games nobody actually wants to play.
@NEStalgia I wonder how Nintendo would react if Gold gets dropped and online for Xbox becomes free. No more excuses for cheap = bad quality service because the best quality online service would be even cheaper.
I'd be surprised if MS dropped Xbox Gold. It's sort of intertwined with their business goal of becoming the Netflix of gaming. MS wants players to sign up for the Xbox Gold & Game Pass combo package for $15/month. It's cheaper than buying both separately and is often discounted down to $40 for a six month sub.
Arguably the best deal in gaming.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@Magician 12 month subscriptions were already removed from the store today which suggests something is happening with Gold. I think there's 2 big possibilities, either Gold is removed and online multiplayer is free or Gold is removed and the benefits of Gold are added to Game Pass for console.
@Magician Game Pass Ultimate is more than just Gold + Game Pass for console, you get Gold + Game Pass for console + Game Pass for PC + xCloud. Removing Gold and expecting people to buy Game Pass Ultimate to play online would be very anti-consumer as the normal price for Ultimate is over double the price of Gold.
It's more likely that if Gold is removed and online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription, it would be included in the Game Pass for console subscription which is a similar price to Gold. Ultimate would still be the ultimate version of Game Pass because of PC and xCloud.
Ah, OK, it wasn't much use to me, really, so I didn't look closely, @Grumblevolcano.....
If there's any other changes, I'm sure they'll reveal them soon
As my year for the £1 is ending soon, I got a deal on another 6 months ultimate, so I'm set for awhile
