Yea, it's an interesting thought. I'd say the closest game for me that ALMOST pushed me to go for it on PC was DOOM. It's pretty muddy on Switch and the multiplayer community is tiny compared to the other systems. But even then the portability outweighed the graphics hit. It came out when my daughter was just born, so dedicated gaming time on a big screen or on my PC was nonexistent. Being able to play handheld when she was napping and I could be close by was the biggest deciding factor.

Same thing goes if I ever get Witcher III. Even with all the downgrades I'll still get it on Switch because then I'll actually play it. If I get it on my PC I'll probably get like 10 hours in and then stop playing for whatever reason. On Switch it's just so easy to pick up for 5 minutes and then get on with my life.

I still probably play majority of time on my PC, which sounds crazy given what I just said, but I mostly play MMOs and competitive games like MOBAs and FPS on my PC when my daughter goes to sleep at night. I'll sit and play a few rounds for an hour or two, so that eventually outweighs little minutes here and there on the Switch. But I don't really play single-player games on my PC.

Very interesting read, thats for sure.
But its for each its own, I always preffer the switch even when the game is not running wel on it, simpely because I like the handheld option, thats a must for me I have ALWAYS been more of a handheld player, I did preffer my GB above the NES or SNES.
I like to play where I want whenever I want with nobody watching over your shoulders.
That doesnt mean fps or graphics doesnt mean anything, sure it does But not for me.
That said I dont consider myself as a hardcore gamer (only expirions whise because played a lot of games.)

Sure, just as they praise other versions regularly. But that's not the point.

The point is in the final analysis, they say "now, because this version runs with better performance, we cant recommend playing on Switch over the other versions" And that's precisely the kind of "performance trumps all, anything else is lesser than" ideology being referred to.

That would be quite impressive. I'm skeptical though. I'm guessing a maximum of 1.5 million.

Which would still outsell the previous versions of the game, but not as high as XC2, which is probably close to 2 million at this point.

I'm just basing it on the fact that remasters very rarely sell more than their original game.

I'm not sure how much "being in Smash Bros" is a massive boost nowadays, given that pretty much everyone is in Smash Bros.

Well I meant "everyone" in terms of "everyone representing a series", not "everyone in every series". Obviously they stick to one from a series for the more peripheral stuff.

Fair point with the FE characters with swords (I still love them all though as a huge FE fan), but honestly, I dont think every single niche Nintendo character deserves to be in. The only ones from your list I'd actually say feel missing are Waluigi (bet he comes in DLC pack as final character), Paper Mario and Dixie Kong. Maybe Chibi Robo but that's pushing it. ARMS is getting representation, and hopefully Rex from Xeboblade 2 will also.

The rest though? I'd rather have the 3rd party characters. Having one single SNK character feels appropriate given they were one of the chosen few platform manufacturers, like Sega. Joker is legit, Mega Man is legit, Cloud is legit, Banjo is legit, Ryu is legit, Sonic is legit... these characters feel deserving. Rather that than more super niche Nintendo characters.

@DarthNocturnal metal gear had quite some games in the past on Nintendo So im not so suprised with that one.

I mean, Snake was in Brawl because Hideo Kojima wanted Snake in Smash Bros. And Joker is in, I assume because Ultimate almost certainly took inspiration from its UI elements.

Cloud is in because wtf other Final Fantasy character was gonna be in that people cared about? I love me some Cecil and Locke, but they're not remotely as popular.

Yeah & they could hardly have Rydia, with her summons in it, @kkslider5552000 ....

For Cloud it felt like him in Smash was the beginning of the end of Sony exclusivity for Final Fantasy. Following that you had stuff like FFXV at Microsoft E3 2016, the Sony exclusive FF games being announced for Switch and XB1 in 2018, XB1 getting the FFXIII trilogy via backwards compatibility in 2018, etc.

On a different note, have those 2K collections been delayed we've heard nothing about them since the Direct except 1 XCOM 2 trailer nearly a month ago?

They are out next week. The review copy codes have been sent out already as I've seen someone on ebay trying to sell them.

There's not much you can really say about them since they are already well known tbh.

That said, if we do get another first party character, I think I'd really like it to be Mallow or BoxBoy and BoxGirl, or maybe even Dillon. They're from decently popular recurring series (well, Dillon is debatable), with no representation yet. I'd also be good with Ricky Winterborn or Akari Hayami showing up out of the blue to rep both Wave Race and 1080, but that'd never happen. Same with Isaac and Chibi-Robo showing up. And Rex & Pyra/Mythra or Elma would be fine additions.

That's eight more first part characters max, and outside of Xeno they're all too obscure for more than one to get in the new pass. Other than that...? It's kinda gotta be third party. I mean, Waluigi is an utter joke and will never be added unless he gets actual playable appearances, neither Ashley nor Captain Sugar are popular enough to be second Wario reps for their specific subseries, and pretty much all other series are presently dead.

They were for £29 each, it's only a few quid cheaper than buying physical so I didn't bother. I suspect in 3+ months time they will be a lot cheaper anyway.

@Dezzy To be fair on the Xenoblade end, the original game literally never got to meet demand because Nintendo printed such limited copies of it in NA. It sold out basically instantly twice and that was it. Plus, Link's Awakening has now outsold both the original and DX releases (though not the combined total quite yet), so we've got recent precedent for that rule being broken on Switch. With that, the series now having gone from an unknown new IP to a Nintendo mainstay, and the general positive reception XC:DE has gotten I could easily see it surpass the original release, and maybe even 2.

@rallydefault I don't play MMOs myself but everything I have heard about them says that like MOBAs they really beg for keyboards to play, rather than a controller.

And yeah, I imagine the Switch is great for short bursts if you have a child. I have no issues in general with kids, so long as they go home with their parents eventually. I'm happy single and childless. lol

Are 3rd parties actively sabotaging their Switch releases?
