Lol, yeah I probably should. There is one major thing I'm very glad to see and that massive discounts on digital games on the Nintendo e-shop. I think that will add a lot to the success of the Switch, because that seems to be one of the things people want.
My point is that it's not sustainable to be a niche console. It's going to be even harder in the future, with increased cost of game development. If someone wants to develop a game, they currently are looking at 4 times the install base on the PS4, so that will probably be the highest priority. It feels like the Gamecube era all over again.
It's not even remotely close to the GameCube era. In terms of marketshare in the only metric that matters, software sales, it has already overtaken the XBOne and is currently sitting somewhere between the N64 and PSP. And that's at this early stage with a relatively small install base. That install base is likely going to be about 2x as big by the end of this year and close to 3x as big by the end of next year.
During the PS2 era when someone was developing a game they could easily ignore the GC because it was only 10% of the market. Not unlike the position the Wii U was in. With the Switch? It's a bit harder to ignore 25% of the market especially when it's a platform that's threatening to grow to 40% or so marketshare. Excluding the HD era where it was basically an even 3 way split the PS4 is the least dominant dominant console since the 80s.
Not to mention, install base doesn't correlate to sales at a 1:1 ratio.
Many titles on Switch are ALREADY outselling PS4 versions, or at the very least giving them a good run for their money. Intensity of install base matters just as much as size of install base. And the install base of Switch is extremely intense. 25-30% the PS4s sold are likely people upgrading anyways, and another 20% that probably don't even play the console anymore. The ACTIVE user base isn't nearly as far out there as it might seem from raw numbers.
Of course, PS4 likely will remain top priority. But that doesn't mean Switch won't be a priority as well, at least for the games that fit the market on this console. Switch is about to surpass GameCube lifetime sales in what... just 18 months after launch? How in any way does that feel like the GC era?
How do we go from super hot system everyone loves to "niche system like gamecube era" in a matter of three weeks???

Anyone here try out the new weapon in Splatoon 2, the Bloblobber? It's comical just how OP this thing is, it probably is the most OP weapon I have ever seen in Splatoon 1 and 2. It's like a slosher with twice as much range and very little ink consumption. It's almost certainly going to be nerfed in a future update.
@JaxonH
It's also worth noting that the market looks very different in different regions for the Switch. In the N64/GC eras Nintendo was outsold by Sony in every single region by 2x or more with the US being their strongest region and Japan being their worst. But with the Switch not only is it not being outsold by that sort of margin it's also the other way around. Infact it's so different that the Switch is actually looking like it'll soon have captured the majority of yearly software sales in Japan
So for western developers? The PS4 and especially the PS4 + XBOne + PC are still the platforms they're going to target first. No questioning the dominance of the PS4 and XBOne combined in the US and Europe. But I think we can expect to see a lot of Japanese developers start treating the Switch as if it was the market leader. Because as far as their games are concerned it pretty much is.
@NEStalgia A lot of people post in the article comment sections who never really bother with the forum. You're a lot more likely to get undisguised nastiness from drive-by commentators online.
Also, the comment section is mostly filled with idiots, not gonna lie. Lots of blind praise/laughable things like praising the lack of media apps or just blind hate is completely shortsighted and missing the bigger picture like with Nintendo's E3 2018 and their Direct schedules.

@Ralizah Somewhat. I swear the more nightmare posters are frequent posters more than drive-by posters. I'm hesitant to say "trolls", but I'm not gonna' not.
@EvilLucario Indeed, and both sides of blind praise/hate just inflame the other further, which is probably the point. It's honestly disturbing watching how little capacity for debate and consideration of various possible, if theoretical, angles so many people have. Any consideration of all the various pros, cons, ups, downs, potential reasons, results comes back to, in those threads yesterday "but look at the stock value dropping, it's clear it's because there's no F-Zero and because Nintendo can't run Red Dead 2 and MHW and switch has no games (because I arbitrarily don't like most of the ones available)!" It's like a WiiU argument with a Replace All for WiiU and Switch being done.
@asdz0722 Ohh, I haven't even realized type C BT adapters exist, that's kind of cool. I guess it won't work for me since I often use an external battery on the port, so I'll stick with wired. That's the one pet peeve I have with the hardware. I was looking forward to using my wireless headphones I used with my Vita and never imagined it wouldn't support them. Wired has plusses (no need to recharge headphones) but it would have been nice.
@Grumblevolcano What is with their promotion of Killer Queen Black. They spent a whole segment of E3 on that and skipped over Fighter Z and a dozen other things. It looks thoroughly budget and they're trying to make it like it's GTAVI.
@Grumblevolcano Which means, and I honestly figured this would be the case given their lack of clarity, that it's missing the summer window entirely. Which puts it into the September/October rush season of games on PS4 and after that against Pokemon and Smash.
They really missed their chances there, unless its in 2019.
@NEStalgia Killer Queen Black is the first console release of a limited availability arcade game. Nintendo is going to be shouting about that like you wouldn't believe.
