Topic: The Nintendo Switch Thread

Despite being only in chapter four of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which I am enjoying greatly,I have been going a bit wild of late by preordering more Switch games that I know I won't even have time for what with trying to keep up with PS4 games too.One of these games is Ys VIII which arrived a few days ago and I'm desperate to start it but seeing all these graphical glitches I'm wondering are there any more patches coming to the game?I may hold off until it's had all its patches otherwise I may just go ahead and start it.
Just had an email to say Shining Resonance Refrain has been dispatched...and Octopath Traveller arriving next week too..oh man..

@Ralizah Well I understand the translation is better than initially released on PS4 and Vita, but the "Fixed" translation isn't exactly...good?

And yeah that visual glitch was er….I'll be honest.

I've only ever seen stuff like that when messing around with models in development software.

@Knuckles-Fajita I see it now. I think this is why Switch games don't bother me, I am awful at spotting details lol.

@link3710 That's a pretty glaring detail. Complete misalignment of an object sticks out.

Can't be that glaring of a detail cause I don't see anything either, even despite actively looking for something wrong.

Yeah a tree that is levitating is a bit....glaring.

While I'm not interested in Warframe, it's nice knowing there's more potential for people to be angry at Sony (I think Microsoft will have crossplay and allow you to use your XB1 saves on Switch for this game just like Fortnite).

@Grumblevolcano While Warframe doesn't have cross-play, even among the other platforms, they did give a limited time window to players when the game launched on the twins to transfer their progress from PC. And i imagine that they will do the same with the Switch. I'm interested to see how Sony will react this time around because if they just keep up the facade they've been having on the matter there's gonna be some major sh*^tstorm coming on to them.

Sony will keep it up. They're twice the amount of consoles ahead of Xbox and even more than that on any others. They think they're untouchable at the moment, but I will agree to deny something that gamers want could come back to bite them in the arse.

@SuperJoon This generation yes I agree, Sony won’t bother with cross play. They don’t even care about backwards compatible despite how much people begged and continue to do so. I mean, they couldn’t even be bothered to continue with the PS2 re-releases. And even those they did release, they had terrible performance issues in the EU versions which I don’t think ever got patched.

Next generation, they may change right at the start. Nothing like great PR publicity to kick things out the gate when launching a new console than making it seem like you’ve listened to your fans all along. It’s what they did with the PS4, they’ll do it again.

I had never heard of Warframe before today but from what I've read, it's an amazing game that can become seriously addictive.It's constantly updated too, always improving and has a good kind of free to play model.

I'm surprised that this is the game Panic Button have been working on, I expected something more well known but I'm definitley not disappointed. It seems the Switch has another killer online title on the way.

@FragRed To be fair to Sony, there's no way they could get backwards compatibility up and running on that system. PS3 emulation is insanely expensive computationally, no way a PS4 could handle that.

And to not be fair to Sony, that's also THEIR fault.

The people that complain about the PS3 being too expensive at launch are probably the same people that complain about the PS4 not having BC. Completely forgetting that the insane price was mainly due to the fact that they included a PS2 in every PS3 to allow for backwards compatibility.

But this is the Switch thread, and that system isn't BC either. They actually expect you to pay full price for last gen's games. That's just the way it is. If you want your games to be playable on your system at all times, you should invest in a decent PC.

So I just finished the main campaign in Kirby Star Allies. Is Guest Star mode literally playing through the game again just without Kirby?

If so, I'll consider Kirby Star Allies completed and move onto my next backlog game. The main game wasn't impressive enough for me to play through it like 40 times including the 3 Dream Friend updates.

@Grumblevolcano Some characters have exclusive rooms, a lot is truncated and there is bonus content unlocked for doing so.

@Grumblevolcano, as @Knuckles-Fajita said, the guest star mode is a remixed & abridged version of the main story, with the Dream Friends runs being slightly more remixed, with a couple reworked/exclusive rooms catering to their unique movesets.

While you only need to run through it once, I believe you must clear it with a regular enemy before having access to Dream Friend runs.

I agree. Sure I'd love the PS4 to be BC, just as I'd love the Switch to be BC. But both systems had a drastic change in architecture, so it's cool. And certainly with Switch, since Nintendo always goes out of their way to include it. So if they couldn't do it for one system, one time... that's fine.

I had no problem buying all the PS3 remasters for PS4. I was grateful that all those games were being ported over! Just as I am grateful for all the awesome PS3 and Wii U games being ported to Switch.

But PC really is the answer. GPD Win 2 is my answer. I'm playing all the best last gen games, on a handheld... dream fulfilled. And it's like I have "BC" for all my games from other consoles too. GameCube, Wii, PS2 and PSP. You can always count on PC to have your back!
